Swindon
LOL...fat chance...unfortunately they don't have any football supporters who work there. If you mention "football" they go off-topic and start talking about holiday destinations like "Leeds", "Wolverhampton" and some Motorway service station called "Swindon" or something....very strange.
Swindon is served by Junctions 15 and 16 of the M4. Between J14 and J15, to the east of Swindon is the "Membury" service station. Run under the recently bankrupt "Welcome Break" brand by new owners who bought the assets, it boasts facilities on two floors either side of the carrigeway, two fruit machine casinos (one each side) and a couple of separate video games areas, with a couple of childrens fruit machines, limited to 10p a go and 5 jackpot. The mean payout on the gambling games is 72%, for a house edge of 28%. The games are not random.
To the west of Swindon, some half mile from Junction 17 sits the Leigh Delamere service area, run by Moto, spun off from Granada some while back. The Moto brand is run by one of the big catering conglomerates, Compass I believe. It too has a fruit machine casino either side, and a childrens video games area. Gaming machines here are set to an equally generous 72% payout
There is no Motorway service station actually AT Swindon, although Membury could be referred to as "Swindon Services", as the old practice of naming them after the nearest village, however small, has given way to naming them after larger, well known towns or cities. This has developed along the same lines as method used for naming Weather Radar. Once named after the nearest hamlet or hilltop, these are now named using more generally recognised area or town names.
As you can see, this naming convention, and its evolution, is used for all things that, to the general populace, are either totally irrelevant, or mind numbingly boring subject matter.
Would any one else like to make reference to Motorway service areas
(or even dare to comment on the efficacy of weather radar, choice of location, global warming etc.
)
My next dissertation will be on the subject of cloud cover with special reference to it's relationship to retriggers on Thunderstruck. Followed by a brief analysis of the Spring Time, "Does Spring Break pay more during the Spring and early Summer, or is it just as loose (or tight) throughout the year".
