Attacks by self-described Muslim hackers, now in their fourth week, hit Regions Financial Thursday. Hacking campaign has also disrupted Capital One and SunTrust banking websites.

Regions Financial Thursday became the latest U.S. bank to have its website attacked and disrupted by self-described Muslim hackers, as part of their ongoing "Operation Ababil" online attack campaign.

"We are experiencing an Internet service disruption that is intermittently impacting our customers' ability to access our website or use our online banking service," said Regions Financial spokesman Mel Campbell Thursday in a statement, according to news reports. "We are working quickly to resolve this issue.....
 
I'm beginning to wonder if thes hacks against banks are part of the problem with delays getting funds from casinos (especially via wire).... Keep an eye on your bank accounts folks!

According to Trend Micro, customers of the following financial institutions are at increased risk: Accurint; American Funds; Ameritrade; Bank of America; CapitalOne; Charles Schwab; Chase; Citibank; eTrade; Fidelity; Fifth Third Bank; HSBC; M&T Bank; Navy Federal Credit Union; PNC; Regions Financial Corporation; Scottrade; ShareBuilder; State Employees Credit Union; Suntrust; The Huntington National Bank; United States Automobile Association; USBank; Wachovia; Washington Mutual; and Wells Fargo.

A study of the malware's configuration files "clearly shows ... which [targets] were at risk, as well as giving insights into the code that is used to modify the sites in question," the blog states.

"We are in contact with the above financial institutions in order to help mitigate this threat," the researchers say. "In the meantime, we advise clients of the institutions listed above to pay particular attention to any wire transfers made out of their accounts, as it is believed that this is how the attack will be conducted by the attackers."

Thanks for the heads up. That is quite a list and pretty much all the institutions that I use.

Officials Blame Tehran for Sophisticated Disruptions of Capital One and BB&T Websites; More Strikes Planned Thursday.

WASHINGTON—Iranian hackers renewed a campaign of cyberattacks against U.S. banks this week, targeting Capital One Financial Corp. and BB&T Corp. and openly defying U.S. warnings to halt, U.S. officials and others involved in the investigation into the attacks said.

The attacks, which disrupted the banks' websites, showed the ability of the Iranian group to sustain its cyberassault on the nation's largest banks for a fifth week, even as it announced its plans to attack in advance.
