Trip to Vegas

Was in Vegas last week for 6 days. The hotel cost nothing and the flight was next to nothing thanks to a few casinos I play. Stayed at Daleno for 2 nights then Flamingo for the other 3. Awesome time. I Saw Wayne Newton in concert, he's been in Vegas performing since 1963. I was there with my Neighbour and we did a lot of stuff off the strip. Grand Canyon, Neon sign museum, Rail express in boulder city, Antique malls, Art District, Pinball museum etc. but I have to say wow it's expensive there. I was there this past April and a lot has even gone up since then.

One thing I do not understand is the cost of items that are in the mini bar in your room. In Daleno 1 litre of Figi water is $22 small is $10, and coffee is $12. A bag of chips the size you give out on Halloween is $11. There was even a price for a romance kit $50 whatever that consists of lol. If you used the bar fridge for your own stuff a $50 charge. We stayed clear of it but what are they thinking are there really guests picking up a $22 bottle of water to charge to their room when you can go to Walgreens or CVS on the strip and get a case of water for $6.99? And it's just not that items in the room are expensive we went to the food court in Luxor and paid $27 for 2 slices of pizza. $14 for a small milkshake. There are good eats if you look for them but you have to go downtown to Freemont or where the locals go but still more than you pay here. I love Vegas but you can feel how money hungry they are.

On the positive, it was still a great Vacation. I love the history of Vegas and there is so much to do other than gambling. I even won at the airport slots which are to be the worst to play.

Went there about 1980, stayed at the MGM before it burnt down, price of hotel food was pretty reasonable and 2 suites of rooms were free due to going with some high rollers.Would like to have seen the neon sign museum, dont think it was there then,
amazed me how many $100 slots were being played.You needed to do something beside than gambling though, 2 days of that
was more than enough.Had booked the Grand canyon but it was cancelled.Saw a few shows, Clyde the orangatan from every which way was performing.

Not ever been, but on the bucket list, so one day I will get to go there. I think if I went in my 20's or 30's I would now be living under a bridge that props up a freeway in a tent!

I've only been to Vegas once on a "lads holiday". We went to see the Canelo v Golovkin fight in 2017 and the result ruined the vibe lol. As Dave says, it was a very messy trip with 36hr+ drinking sessions and I'm too surprised I managed to get back on the plane home.

Heading back there in September, this time a different theme as I'm taking the missus for our anniversary. Flights are booked (not cheap) and I've been doing quite a bit of research on what hotels to go for (also not cheap). If you read the reviews, there are quite simply no good hotels in Vegas lol. Even newer hotels such as the Aria or Resorts World have stories of dirty rooms, blocked toilets, peeling decor etc. How can they get so bad so quick when only a couple of years old?

On thing that did make me laugh, almost every review of a Vegas hotel from a US resident mentions the lack of coffee machine in the room. Is coffee so important there? Then again, it's probably because they cost so much to buy!

Will certainly avoid the hotel mini bar and may invest in some duct tape to make sure the wife doesn't fancy a sip of $20 water overnight.

Joking aside, we were so p*ssed with the result, the 3 of us had "invested" heavily in GGG and my pal (who's a keen boxer) had him down as winning 115-113, we thought we were quids in until the judge called the draw. Atmosphere died as soon as that happened!

The whole USA is dealing with crazy prices for food/drink/eating out right now, but Vegas is on another level. I took my Dad about 6 years ago, we had a great time, it was pricy but fun, nothing like now.

They nickel and Dime you for everything. Restaurants cost a fortune, then when you add the 20% tip it becomes even more insane. A sandwich or burger costs $30, a drink in the bar is $20-40, the resort fees, deposits. Thats before you get to any kind of gambling. I honestly don't like going anymore and avoid it. I went last year and couldn't wait to go home. I don't mind expensive things, but I hate feeling robbed everywhere I turn. It stresses me. Oh, and a lot of the 20% tips go on awful, awful service these days.

Bring lots of money! Actually, when we went to Myrtle Beach we did the same, we got stuff for breakfast and lunch in the hotel room every day and just went out for dinner to save some money.

There is a CVS on the strip at Flamingo road. Were Delano charged for the fridge Flamingo did not. So while staying at flamingo we stacked up on a few things at CVS as they have yogurt, fruit, sandwiches etc. I think there is a Target somewhere on the strip as well.
If you want a decent meal at a good price and if your going down to Fremont st is Siegel's 1941 at the El Cortez they have a prime rib special every day for $19.99. It's on the thin side but it's a full meal with potatoes and vegetables. You do have to make reservations. The Main Station has a decent buffet $24 to $35. I think dinner buffet only on weekends. Caesers on the strip has the best buffet but it's $75 per person and remember this is in US dollars. We splurged on 1 good dinner at Oscars at the Plaza. Great atmosphere and view of Fremont. the waiter was amazing and full of history. Back in the early 70s he did some work for Elvis, the waiter said he was 16 at the time and Elvis would tip him $100. The famous Peppermill is a great place to eat on the strip. Large portions but you're looking at an average $22 for breakfast but you get a lot. We asked for a take-out container and had 2 meals out of it. Peppermill is very cool been around 50 years and many famous people ate there but again better to make a reservation. The Art District has some great restaurants at affordable prices. It's a very trendy area. Wahlburgers at Flamingo road and the strip is decent as well. I'm sure they have other locations.

I have been very lucky finding deals in Vegas even without comp rooms. I found deals around $600 or under per person flight hotel and taxes included on Expedia for 5 or 6 days flying out of Toronto but looking again for Oct or Nov. of this year and it's much more expensive double in price.

Oscars is one of the best for sure, not as pricey as some for the same quality, Ellis Island is my go to place, cheap eats, 16oz(more like 20) prime rib 21 bucks, 10oz NY Steak with eggs $8.99, cheap beer and good RTP, one block behind Horseshoe(Formerly Bally's) 7 min walk. Wahlburgers in front of Ballys or Horseshoe is great, burgers are awesome and heavy purs at the bar.

Vegas is getting utterly ridiculous it has to be said. If you are staying in an MGM (or Carsars property) get their members card and put everything on it. All your gambling. If you eat or drink at any of the properties charge it to your room. It’s the only way you’ll get something back, possibly something off your resort fee. They certainly try to lure you back with deals.
I gamble on average $2-3/spin on slots while out there and I currently have an offer of 4 comp nights at any MGM resort along with $325 free slot play and up to $450 resort credit so it helps combat the insane prices.
As I stayed at Mirage last year and Hard Rock want my business (MGM sold it), they are also offering me 3 free nights along with $100 free play/$100 resort credit.
Effectively I could go for a week for the cost of a flight.
If you are just looking for a one and done visit then go with package deals from the UK as they will be better value but still use your members card as you’ll likely get something for your spend. Same goes for pretty much all casinos in Vegas.

When did tips double to 20%??? Is that just Vegas?
I always thought it was 10%. But then, we haven't been there since 2004. By the sounds of things, this will definitely be my last ever trip there.

We don't mind paying a LITTLE bit more when staying somewhere posh - but when it's a blatant rip-off we would rather just walk away, make our own sandwiches with stuff from the store and drink tap water!

When I first visited around 1987 the hotels, food & drink were REALLY cheap, as it was all subsidized by the gambling. Seems now that GREED has moved in big time

I agree with most of what this video says, it is a lot like what I wrote in my earlier post (bar the end). When I first went, I wasn't rich by any means, had a crappy-ish salary, and had a blast. Nowadays with my situation back then I would have had a miserable time based on food costs alone.

I have noticed even some UK youtubers like BL4K posted last year that he just doesn't feel like going back because you just get sick of being screwed. You can gamble so many places these days - I genuinely think Vegas is going to see a real decline unless something changes.

TRUE STORY, all over the place, pretty much have to go off strip, Freemont to find single zero. At some point Vegas is going to get swallowed up by it's own greedy asshole.....I kinda cant wait for that day, just like back in 2008.

So 375ml of champagne, for $65!!!!!! That's marginally bigger than a standard can of Coke at 330ml. I know LV is remote for supplying relative to other US cities but I'd want a 30-minute call girl thrown in for $65.

There's a shop and Post Office in the British Antarctic Territory which gets supplied at great expense from the UK every few months with non-perishables like snacks, drinks, postcards etc. which cruise tourists buy mainly and the prices in that are a fraction of those.

Who needs to smuggle or be a gangsta - simply get a retail license in LV of some description. It must be the only gambling place on Earth where sustenance costs more than your stakes.
