There was once an actor who did Shakespearean plays. As he got older he got hired less and less because he just couldn't remember his lines. After many years of frustration, he was contacted by a Broadway director who was prepared to give him the chance to shine again.
The director said, "This is very important part, but you only have ONE line. You walk onto the stage carrying a rose. You lift the rose to your nose, sniff deeply and then say the line, 'Ah, the sweet aroma of my mistress.' Remember that one line and you'll be the talk of the town!"
The actor is thrilled. For weeks before the play he practices his line over and over again.
Finally, the time came. The curtain went up, the actor walked onto the stage, and lifted his hand, inhaled noisily and delivered the line, "Ah, the sweet aroma of my mistress."
The theater erupted in chaos as the audience screamed with laughter.
The actor, puzzled, walked offstage to find the director fuming.
"You bloody fool!" he cried "You have ruined me!"
The actor was bewildered. "What happened, did I forget my line?"
"You idiot!" Screamed the director. "You forgot the bloody ROSE!"
