The Commission has focused on online slots because of its features which increase the intensity of play and the corresponding risks to players. Slot games have by far the highest average losses per player of online gambling products *1. The new rules include the outright ban of four key features of online slots games:

  • Features that speed up play or give the illusion of control over the outcome
  • Slot spin speeds faster than 2.5 seconds
  • Autoplay - which can lead to players losing track of their play, and;
  • Sounds or imagery which give the illusion of a win when the return is in fact equal to, or below, a stake
Other changes include:

  • The permanent ban on reverse withdrawals – a function which allows consumers to re-gamble money they had previously requested to withdraw
  • Operators must clearly display to the player their total losses or wins and time played during any online slots session.
The enhanced protections that have been announced today will need to be fully implemented by online operators by 31 October 2021.

I play on casinos which pretty much have implemented these already...

... but AUTOPLAY?

Really UKGC?

I already deposit limit my account sensibly, what more do you want from me?

So on November 1st I can do a £50 roulette spin that’s ok, but I can’t do 100 spins on DOA on 9p automatically

Honestly.

I heard they were considering this.

I wonder how this will change the face of slots in the UK?

Milions of clients using automated click technology to skip the boredom until the bonus bell OR back to basics where there was just a base game that paid all of the RTP ??

Might quieten down some of the glamour around these things portrayed on YouTube if there were no 'Bonus Hunts' or 'Coffee-Grounds Presents......' (love that vid @dunover )

no autoplay well it will be there loss, especially slots like Bonanza that you have to grind,is there such thing has a automated click program you can download ?

Plenty of free autoclick apps around for PC and mobiles, been using them for years ,better that sitting hunched in front of a computer
getting RSI when you could be doing other things.

Just when you think it can't get any worse, I read this thread. It's to the point now we're it feels beyond trying to help problem gamblers etc. But just trying to make everyone in the U.K quit playing online altogether.

Some of the changes have been positive like no reverse withdraw, the only really next change I would like to see is a minimum RTP of 95%+ if they really want to protect customers they should stop the greed by casinos and developers.

But I doubt that will happen, the casino industry is killing themselves when they jump on board the lower RTP train, it is getting more and more known out there, even for the average Joe.
Having the highest RTP will eventually be bragging rights and probably where most customer ends up playing eventually.

Just read this - comes into force by October 2021 no auto play and this "Operators also will have to clearly display to the player their total losses or wins and time played during any online slots session."

I really cant see many casinos staying around for the UK market after this lot comes into force.

Not sure what the problem with that is, a lot of responsible casinos do it already, annoying as hell, but I regularly get a pop up saying 'reminder, you have been playing for xx minutes and have won/lost £xx or have staked £xx with a profit/loss of £xx'

Not 100% sure from head at the moment but that reality check (how it's called) can be turned off at least for MGA, not betting that UKGC has been same but from these changes could get picture that it's been possible to switch off, from same place where you can set frequency.

Bit disappointing to that 2.5 sec spin, some regulators can go up to 5 sec :)

Removal of autoplay is beyond a joke, completely self-defeating. Far easier to lose control of how much you are spending when you are mindlessly clicking. Least with autoplay you can count batches of spins and do the math. Don't get this at all.

My thoughts exactly

They'll soon be taking on an extra 1,000,000 employees at the UKGC, one each to sit with us at our PC's and tap us on the shoulder every 5 or so minutes

Complete Joke

Understand the issue with them looking to calm down problem gamblers but what about the casual players like us who are more than in control etc....

Regarding autoplay I think it's the other way around: you lose track of the amount of spins you've done when you are manually clicking.
EXACTLY my thoughts.
I often go to a slot and think "I'll just do 50 or 100 spins and see what happens" - so I use autoplay.
So now we have to manually COUNT our spins?
Totally insane.

The Gambling Commission has published a short survey to gather responses to guide their main consultation on customer interactions and affordability.

This is where the UKGC want to force operators to gather documents such as bank statements, payslips, P60’s, Source of Wealth and Source of Funds at a level of spend of £125 per month otherwise their accounts will be restricted. In addition, credit checks which will potentially appear on your credit file.

The survey takes about 2 mins to fill out and consultation closes a week today.

Every UK player on this forum should take this very seriously, as this survey will be used by the UKGC and if this happens, will devastate the UK gambling industry and the black market will rule.

I also urge casinomeister to ask all their members to fill in this survey.

Just done one of the UKGC's surveys on RG issues and sent this little rant

Currently there are many casinos who place a block on withdrawals yet allow deposits and gameplay to continue. That does nothing to help a customer who has a RG problem, if anything it has a negative affect, and the same applies to AML checks.

If a customer has a gambling problem, then refusing a withdrawal can put them into financial difficulty. I have seen many a case where a customer has won, as an example, £2000 on a casino, clicked to withdraw, then went elsewhere and deposited money they can't afford and wouldn't have deposited if it weren't for the previous win. They then lose that, then 48 hours later get an email stating they need to go through a SOW check, which then either fails, or takes weeks and months to conclude, pushing that customer into financial difficulty.

Even worse are the license holders who refuse a withdrawal but still allow deposits and play to continue. I am fully aware this is specifically allowed under the current LCCP, however I can't help to think this was either overlooked or a mistake. If a license holder suspects a customer has a gambling problem, then withholding winnings whilst allowing deposits cannot possibly be acceptable in my view. They are, in effect, saying, 'we think you are a problem gambler, we won't give you your winnings, but will keep taking the money we suspect you cannot afford to spend'

The same applies in AML checks. If a license holder suspects criminal activity, which is the only time they should be doing these, then to continue accepting deposits is akin to handling stolen funds. The obvious exception would be when a SAR has been submitted, but until that point, only blocking withdrawals is predatory behaviour.

Either a full block should be applied to these accounts, and not only on withdrawal as seems to be the case with a lot of casinos, or play should be allowed to continue until such time verification is completed and a decision made as to if to continue the business relationship.

I also think there should be a clear route of complaint for customers who end up victims of casinos who refuse to pay either winnings or deposits back. Currently, especially with responsible gaming issues, getting a complaint heard is nigh on impossible. ADR's will not deal with them, and the UKGC rarely, if ever, respond with anything other than a generic copy and paste response, customers should not have to rely on expensive, complicated and time consuming legal action to get their money.

As big a headache for the developers will be the switch to removing “reward” music/sound effects for a win less than stake, for the UK market

Some of the effects can be ludicrous though. I've seen games with big flashy graphics and effects for a 5x stake "BIG WIN".

I like BTG's style - a win does get a sound effect, but if it's around the same level as the stake (or less), it's just a bleep to make you notice, rather than a "win".

Novomatics are the same, even their big win are fine, usually a ringing that just gets longer the bigger the win
IGT are ridiculous, takes about 20 minutes to move onto the next spin if you don't click to stop it, if you get say 40 lines, it plays a tune, then counts up the winnings then highlights each winline

Autoplay only leads to loss of control if you can't set the number of spins in advance and so on - that was the whole point of having that box pop up so you can set everything how you want it. If autoplay gets removed then it's all over for a lot of people. I'd probably use a button script to press SPACE every second, but then you're relying on the game requiring a mouse click rather than SPACE to start the bonus so you don't miss it, potentially narrowing the range of slots you're able to play in this manner. And then there's the issue of flouting the T&C's of the casino if they think you're not playing the game manually.

All in all, like fuck will I want to persist with going to all that trouble just to do something I enjoy - it just won't be worth the ball-ache.

As I've said many times before, all the UKGC needed to do was limit the amount people could deposit unless they are willing to prove they can and want to spend more - that's all. Now they're going completely overboard and will reduce money spent and put the industry, one that employs many thousands of people around the world, into a downward spiral.

People are buying excitement and entertainment when they gamble online. If they find they can no longer get that in the way they want it, they'll either stop, go to an unregulated casino or try to circumvent the jurisdiction rules somehow.

Once the UKGC have finished with online gambling what are they going to do next? Go down Alton Towers and flatten out the loops in the roller-coasters? Take the water out of the log-flume so people don't get wet? Fucking hells-bells...

What's pissing me off quite frankly is that I and many others play whilst doing other things. So even with mouse clicking software I would now not be able to do anything else on my 2nd monitor as my mouse will be clicking away on the other. If I have to by 2 mouse's and make my 2nd display independent from the 1st display, I'm gonna be pissed off. I guess games like bonanza can fuck off now with there hundreds and hundreds of autoplay spins.
