    Stealing from an employer or family member to fund gambling is not an uncommon story in the media, but this council worker stooped to a new low to fund her addiction...

    The 39-year-old stole pre-paid credit cards while manager of the Grenfell Tower fire fund at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. McDonagh gambled over £32,000 at a number of online casinos and bookmakers, although recovered around half through withdrawals to her bank account.

    She will be looking at a custodial sentence, or at the very least 250 hours unpaid work. Unbelievable that anyone could steal from such an import cause like that

    This just reminds me of the number of scammers and opportunists for 9/11 too, it never ceases to amaze that people like this exist.

    Not that there's a 'good' way to spend the stolen funds but frittering them away on gambling is about as disrespectful as it gets! I read that she liked her holidaying and fine- dining too. Nice :rolleyes:

    As this seems fairly traceable I'd like to see the gambling companies cough up for what she splurged at their casinos, though not obliged to do so.....

    That is for the ordinary gambler only, just to piss them off you know.

    She will definately get custodial - it is too high profile not to get it. Not long though - probably 12 month out in 6 or less. She is under investigation for similar frauds at two other places.

    That's the thing - the UK (and the EU for that matter) has stigmatized the gambling industry so bad - no help from tales of woe from the Guardian - that this source of wealth is considered a necessity. I just bought a load of scientific instruments for my astronomy hobby - no source of wealth offered there. But what's stopping someone like this to buy €10,000s of stereo equipment, automobiles, etc?

    I wonder when some politicians get wind of this and start applying it to non-gambling related wares.
