Super-Casino Shortlist Announced! (UK)

Slotster!

I predict a riot.
Hello!

So the UK is to get some Las Vegas style 'Super-Casino's' - and the shortlist has been announced.

Reading that article, the guidelines in terms of what's allowed and what's not are a bit bizarre. I.e - How does a slot machine jackpot correlate with how big a casino should be? If people are concerned about the impact on gambling addiction, I really don't think limiting the jackpots at 4000 will help.

Anyhow - I'm more interested in people's perceptions of how this will impact the burgeoning online industry in the UK. Undeniably, the UK participation in online gambling is in it's infancy - but growing at an alarming rate. Will the introduction of 'super-casino's', never before seen on these shores - encourage more and more people to actually go and get the Vegas style experience; Instead of plugging away at Ladies Nite in their jim-jams?

Moreover, with the recent murmerings and whispers about potential cheating/errors/malfunctions and flaws with online casinos - could UK super-casino's be ideally timed to take advantage massively?

It's certainly going to be interesting.

I for one can't wait. Although I'm sure Blackpool won't be able to capture quite the same atmosphere as Las Vegas - when I'm sat inside and wired into 'Triple Wild Cherries' at 3 a spin - I'll not care less about what's going on in the big wide (wet and windy) world outside!

Bring it on! :D

Hi Slotster. I was born and raised in Derbyshire England and our biggest treat was to go to Blackpool. It was many years ago, but I remember the wet and windy walks on the beach and a stick of Blackpool Rock with the picture all the way through!

Yes, I'm sure many others will join you inside where it's warm and dry. There is probably much needed excitement for the group of people that have finished with amusement rides and wonky mirrors (if they still exist). My mum would have loved to have slots at Blackpool - she would have sent dad and I to the donkey rides for 6 hours.

I was there not long ago Dewberry - Every possible stereotype from all parts of the UK... Kiss-Me-Quick hats... Big groups of blokes staggering drunkedly down the promenade, in different coloured shirts looking like a packet of Opal Fruits... Teenagers and old folks glued to the 2p OXO fruit machines, holding out for the big £5.00 jackpot... Stag parties - all wearing comedy breasts and wigs... Hen Nights - The bride in a wedding dress with 'L' plates and covered in stuck on condoms... A woman storming off down the road crying, with one stiletto on her foot and the other in her hand; her boyfriend walking quickly behind shouting for forgiveness... People trying to press the buttons on the ATM, negotiating their way round a spilled kebab... All surrounded by the faint smell of donuts, fish and chips and vomit - in the pouring rain.

It hasn't changed a bit!

Places like Blackpool will be great....sad to see Gt Yarmouth not get the biggie.

very simialr too blackpool, seaside town losing appeal etc....

Just hope they actually put some thought into the locations etc as star city in brum is the lousiest casino i have been in...just no atmosphere

lotte

OMG Slotster, your write up on Blackpool was hilarious! I guess it has changed a bit since I was last there in the '70's. Sounds like it might be safer inside than out. lol

Heh hee.. My application for Director of Marketing at the Blackpool Tourist Board is pending

Nah.. It's a great family place in the day, like you say, rock with pictures all the way through, candy floss and donkeys... Just gets scary after dark! I love Blackpool - it's great for all the reasons Vegas is!

I've got my fingers crossed for Manchester first, Blackpool second!
