Sports Bar Slot Machine Win

Actually we have real casinos, just in the sports bars, gas stations, and what not. You can play ticket machines where they are only good for free food and drink. I was bored, put in $5 to see if I could win my tab. Versus having to pay for it straight up. I ended up winning my tab and then some. It's actually sort of fun winning your meals for a while.

Isn't that the equivalent of the bad old days when UK AWP's paid their jackpots out in tokens?
You could spend them at the bar or in arcades on junk in the window, but mostly they'd go back in to win real cash for lower prizes which weren't paid in tokens. Being compensated you'd win little cash for your tokens as the machine had just paid its jackpot...:eek::mad:

That´s nice. :)

We went to a local pub 3 days ago and i spent some coins at a Merkur Money Game. I made arround 73€ with 0.10 bet, got a lot of free games and saved all the beer and some more shots. :)

Cheetah,

I've done that. Put a couple of bucks in one of those machines and then won gas for a week.

They are illegal in Texas but you can still find them in some gas stations. Just depends on how much of a butt the local sheriff wants to be. The gas station about a mile or so from me has a bunch of them. You can buy gas, cigarettes, etc from the store with the tokens.

@dunover

See I think these machines are really actually pretty similar to the pub machines they have over in the UK, and what not. Yet yes, they don't pay cash. Just pay in tickets good for merchandise only. The other catch is apparently the machine is only allowed to pay out $5 per spin. So I ended up giving back $50 of it on spins alone. Basically you can cash out $5.00 then have to spend again. Then you can cashout another $5. Which in theory could sometimes end up giving you a larger profit, but obviously since I had just jackpoted I wasn't expected the world.

@anniemac

Yeah I've been told Texas is pretty strict about gambling, yet I was told there pretty liberal with there racing tracks. Awesome win on the gas for a week ordeal though :)
Was there any max redemption per transaction like there is here in Iowa?

Cheetah,

From what I've seen, there isn't a max on anything. I know some folks that have well over $100 in tokens and spend them.

The dopers around here were exchanging them for merchandise, if you know what I mean.

As far as gambling, Texas is a state of hippocrites. They had rather we drove to LA, ARK, NM, OK to gamble than spend out money in Texas.

When I'm at the pub I'll use winnings to buy a drink and dinner :) I figure I'm going to loose the money plying those compensated slots so may as well get something out of it ;)

Well see here in Iowa, for like about 6 months I think it was. They allowed places that actually sold lottery tickets. A chance to actually have real live slot machines in there establishments. Where you could win real money. The major catch at that time, was having the actual retailers cash in the winnings. If the machine paid especially big, sometime you had to mail in the voucher. To the actual lottery and get your winnings that way.
Well apparently there was a group of people who made a big enough fuss to the state. To essentially have our house and senate governments pass a bill that said they can't have live slot machines at every corner store that sold lotto tickets.
My honest guess who threw enough of a fit, was probably the casinos. Basically realizing some of the lost profits they had by having a slot machine on every corner.
Now the same group of casinos, are becoming less and less welcoming to competition. As our state accepts more applications for gaming licenses. I can only see in the near future that our state will become pretty over saturated with casinos. Especially when/if we decide to allow for online gaming in any form of capacity.
Long story short, I believe the ticket machines were the answer to some people still wishing to offer instant win games at there establishment. Yet as I stated above, they tickets couldn't be redeem for cash or anything that could result in cash. They had to be redeemed for something from the place be it gas, food, drinks, whatever.
