Slow Microgaming

.......And busted again!

This bug keeps on happening, BUT, on my brand new XP top notch PC. I cannot see how this can be explained away by MG as to do with my PC "being old".

This happens only in the free spins, and reels one and two come to rest while the other three just keep on spinning.
This was slightly different, only reel one came to rest, and then all the symbols suddenly changed to something else AFTER it had stopped. The other four just kept on spinning, and spinning, and I noticed I had a "unusual" amount of free spins left:confused:

I thought I had downloaded the multi-player Royal Vegas update with nothing more than the usual 2 hour download 'problem'. I noticed this afternoon that my cursor would halt and jerk and freeze while navigating in the casino software (I was checking out the tourneys). I took a look at the slots list, and Mega Moolah (and only that game) was greyed out. I double clicked on it and got a pop up that said something about a Module download error and to contact support. **sheesh** So I imagine the software is continually using resources trying to download a game it can't get.

Yes, I have noticed this in my monitoring utility....

It can't create the "inf" file for the package, so will just keep on trying again, and failing again, each time you log on.

This is the probable reason behind my first experience of these tournaments being so utterly dismal. Until a solution is found for us both, it is not worth while participating since these are timed tournaments, and the slow software due to the constant download seek will make it an unfair contest.
My problems are despite doing a Royal Vegas reinstall from scratch.

There's more.
I have found around half a dozen MG casinos that didn't delete the old copy of itself when the new file structure was introduced. I am well on my way to tracking down where all the extra Gigabytes went to. Royal Vegas had failed to clean out the Cache directory, which was another 600Mbytes freed up. This may also offer a solution to the failed update of Mega Moolah, the "Cache" directory should only be temporary, but if it remains it seems to mess up the update process at next login.

For the last week, I have been getting "hard drive full" errors, so had to start investigating.

According to classical stats, I still had over 12Gigs left, but after running scandisk for two hours, it reclaimed some lost chains, and caused my stats to read only 300MEGAbytes left, this on a 30GIG drive!!!

I have now found at least one culprit, and naturally it is Microgaming!

This "temporary file", associated with ONE SLOT, Wasabi-San, clocks in at FOUR GIGABYTES!!!!

Microgaming, WTF:mad:

How many more of these are there:what:

Notice, it is so big that it's size under the Explorer tab is NEGATIVE, and thus possibly responsible for corrupting the drive FAT.

Good grief is right... that's the size of a DVD... perhaps you were watching "Debbie does Dallas" while playing? :D

Recovery

Including that one, I eventually recovered 6 Gigabytes, and the next attempted install expanded the paging file to a record breaking 1.2 Gigabytes, at which point everything just stopped happening, not an actual crash this time. Close down took 5 minutes.

There is a pretty serious memory management problem with MG, not to mention issues with grabbing large chunks of disk space and not cleaning up after. I wonder how many players have these huge chunks taken from their hard drive, and are none the wiser!

Well, a 1.2GB paging file isn't such a big deal... LOL... but then it depends on how much physical RAM you have and how many applications you are running.

If all you were doing was an install, with nothing else running (including all that stuff in your task bar like anti-virus software), then I would definitely agree that this is way too much.

Hello all,

MG has now been contacted regarding this problem and all discussions posted here have been passed onto them. We have also expressed our strong concerns regarding this matter, with the imminent launch of our casino site with them. We are still waiting to here from them, but I will be chasing them and will keep you all posted!

Swede, thanks for the luck, i hope we can get this sorted out before then though.

Well "something" got fixed recently, a couple of casinos did the double launch despite having already received the latest games. This usually means a bug fix, such as when they fixed Mega Moolah a while back.

Oh Crap!

Well, end of March and science time again:mad:

I now have another casino bite the dust on the old PC, Spin Palace. It has the same problems as All Slots and Royal Vegas.

I will have to see if this means MG have fully rolled out whatever upgrade was beta tested last month.

I am installing my MG casinos on the new XP computer, and even here I am having some problems with some casinos. As the update is distributed, I will see if all MG casinos develop the same problems on the old PC, and I will transfer those that do over to the new one (I'm doing this anyway, but it takes time - i use the new PC mainly for tournament play, and the old one for "normal" play and admin, email, posting here etc.)

Allslots finally loaded, in a couple of minutes at 4am. Might have already done most during the previous four tries, might be that I cleared 75 gig off the hard drive, cleaned the registry and defragged before attempting again. Dunno.

PROBLEMS WITH ALL MY MICROGAMING SOFTWARE

Every casino I already had totally downloaded has suddenly begun to have FATAL issues requireing me to unistall. And even upon reinstalling they are not downloading correctly.

Also, can't get Hitman to download at all. Gets to 7 percent and thats it

Any help?

Had the same trouble on my laptop - took an eternity to download Hitman, and then when I tried to play the game, it near enough crashed my computer.

Even took an age to download on my PC, but at least it didn't crash that one.

The only thing you can do (apart from stealing a computer from NASA) is keep re-booting & trying again. Don't try to run ANY other programs while downloading, and wait until all the other 200+ games have also finished unnecessary updating before trying to play the new slot.

If no good, un-install & re-install from scratch (let it download overnight)

If that fails too - give up MG and go & play on one of the other excellent softwares available today. (Many are just as good if not better than MG - and they run OK on the least powerful of PC's)

I'm sorry to say that MICROGAMING HAVE SCREWED-UP YET AGAIN and it seems they are totally deaf to what the gambling community are saying. Hopefully there will come a point when so many players complain to the casino operators about the rapidly declining service/quality of the software that they will eventually sit up & do something before we all end up bald!!!

Microgaming, Please, give us a choice to download

I am connected via a 58k modem. The fastest download I have ever seen is 6kbps. This is usually absolutely fine for the casino and general surfing. New games will take about 20 minutes to half and hour, which I can live with, however on Thurday it took me about that time to load into the lobby. Then I downloaded Hitman and I was getting a download rate of 1% every 5-8 minutes. needless to say I left the modem on and went to bed.

The next evening, I wanted to play on my notepad, I did what I always do and copied the new games from the local and global folders and placed them on my notepad. I got into the games but they were running at over a minute per spin.

I couldn't see any reason for this, I disabled anything could be accessing the net to download automatically....
until I happened to notice a pink installing bar on one of my favourites and the penny dropped that all these games were downloading again and there wasn't a thing I could do to stop or pause them

My plea to MG is this:
-]I love playing your new games, I love slots. I don't want to download anything else! I will never play any table game. EVER. Give me the option.
Get rid of the intro movies, I want to gamble, if I want to watch movies I'll take myself off to the cinema, stop filling my hard drive with nonsense.
Give me the option to pause a download if the speed of my gaming experience slows to the ridiculous.

Currently my solitary microgaming casino is sitting at 926 MB. Who in their right mind would consider downloading 900MB on a modem? Whenever I have had a problem with software I've been advised by the casino to uninstall and reinstall everything. ROFL. Thankfully I tried copying and saving game files, which worked, so I didn't have to wait for weeks for the software to re-install. God help those with multiple MG casinos.

I believe that when my casino decides to change its lobby, I will have to give up online gambling forever. Enough is enough.

I addressed a few of these in my February science lesson, and these were posted earlier in this thread.
I have a bodge to prevent MG casinos from upgrading until you let them (by reversing the bodge). I have not tested this on the latest upgrade though, and this seems to have yet again reorganised the folder structure, which means the old games REALLY DO UPDATE all over again, rather than "just being checked" as earlier.
There is also a method for killing the intro movie, I found this ages ago, and some casinos have no movie by default. I do not know if it is still possible because the registry variable that controls it has vanished now.

The only fix I have had work for the other problems is to spend 1500 or so on an Athlon 64 5800+ (dual core mate!), 2Gig RAM (expandable to 4), dual 320 Gig hard drives 24" TFT Widescreen monitor (4 MG casinos at once, just). This gives me the level of problems I had with MG over a year ago, such as the casino vanishing in mid play, bugs on Thunderstruck etc.
So far, the worst problem on this new kit has been at Royal Vegas, which took three attempts to install, but is now fine (very much so if you look at the tournament scores:D ).

Purplenaomi posted earlier that MG were informed of this, quite strongly! This means that casino operators are on to them, Simmo also has a contact it seems who says they are "working on it", sadly though, they just went ahead and released the beta to all MG casinos, bugs and all, BEFORE they had investigated and fixed the problems. As other casinos update between now and Wednesday, these problems should all come to light.

I have now lost Captain Cooks casino, updated to new games, and now has identical problems as Spin Palace, All Slots, Royal Vegas. It is now pretty clear that ALL MG casinos will no longer work properly on this PC.

I have to make it clear to operators that these casinos will be uninstalled, and unless they have decent promotions for loyal returning players, they will NOT end up on my new machine till I have plenty of spare time to suffer the downloads which still take hours for a full install as it is the casino server that holds it back - I can at least do three at a time on the new kit, so not as bad as on this one, and XP has restore points in case of severe disaster.

Worse to come.

The unthinkable is happening.

They are now failing on my new 1500 kit:mad: Just tried to update Grand Bay (big tournament coming), and it did a TRIPLE launch and then spontaneously unloaded itself. I had this also with Royal Vegas, which did it during a tournament, but luckily I had not taken a spin so did not have my time docked.
I have also had the spontaneous exit on Spin Palace and Jupiter Club on this new kit.

Microgaming WTF do we need to buy to run these now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saw a nice Alienware Area 51 workstation with all the trimmings for 4 Grand. Quad core, crossfire graphics, 1 Terrabyte Hard drive, will that do?

Dammit! Now where did I put that Scimitar and Grenade:rolleyes:

Thanks for that Vinyl

:DThanks for that Vinyl should have read the whole thread before venting, download rage removes all calm logical reasoning.

After being out for the day, I loaded the casino and what do you know, the lobby appears to be downloading again, unless we are getting more new games...oh oh error connecting to upgrade server... looks like I won't be spinning again tonight.
Damn, and I am gettiing to really enjoy Hitman too.

My shiny new notepad can alter the paths of ICBM's render 3D movies in seconds...........but for Microgaming consider investing in a Cray.

This is NOT a hardware problem. My puter has a DCP trimmed to the max, 2GB RAM plus an extra stick for OS only. And despite the fact that I'm on a 100/100Mbit fiber line through my own server, a single MG slot can and often does take 5-15 mins to install. The last one, Hitman, took 5 mins after freezing twice(had to restart the whole client both times).

Time to look things over, Microgaming?

After a few tries at opening the casino earlier, I finally managed to get some play and the games were all smooth and fine then...dumbo here closed the casino without thinking when going for supper.

On reopening (or not, as it turned out)
The procedure entry point_CasinoEnumRegKeyA@28 could not be located in the dynamic link library Casino.dll

Fortified from supper, I gamely redownloaded the installer again. This took a few seconds followed by an hour of being entertained by flash movies as the lobby downloaded. <RANT> Its the sight of flash movies that get me seeing red. It is completely unneccesary. Flash is only truly appreciated by the graphics artists who can drool and sigh over the little pretty intricacies the rest of humanity couldn't care about. What I do care about is the fact that while each pathetic frame downloads I am paying for it. I pay my isp. I then pay the phone company for every minute I'm online and no, there is no cheap internet rate. </RANT>

After all that casino loads, casino gets stuck, I forcibly close the application and restart:

I've had more fun passing kidney stones.

That's a new one on me, MG casinos don't like to give such hard evidence when they screw up. I can't see them wriggle out of this one by telling you the problem is with your PC, although they will most likely trot out the old "antivirus software" excuse.
If you are technically minded, use the utility "Dependency Walker", and open the casino executable of the offending casino with it, and then select the task "profile". It will produce a log, which i this case should be short. It will examine all the loaded modules, and you can gain a little more insight into the problem. If I get this type of problem I will do the same.
It is the same utility that I have used in the past to track down the other problems, and gain logging evidence implicating the MG software being the cause of the failure.

The easiest way to find out about it is to type "dependency walker" into google, whereupon you should find one of the download sites it lives on. It should still be free for personal use. I have not tested it under XP though.

CGB (Casino Grand Bay) did the double launch, then tried to launch the 3rd time after sitting at 100% for the longest time, then failed. Finally got it up and running, however no new games are showing up in the New Games List. But it's trying to download something as evidenced by the fits and starts and lags when trying to play slots. I am not technically minded and all I want is for the software to work without going to the equivalent of standing on my head and whistling Dixie while eating saltines. (And I refuse to phone support at any casino for software problems as I know how to turn off my virus scanner and/or uninstall and reinstall, thank you very much.)

I think it's a crying shame that it's left to players to troubleshoot MG's poorly configured and buggy software. And it's getting worse!

I had this with Grand Bay, triple launch, but then just unloaded itself never to be seen again.
I have noticed that sometimes the new games do not show up on the list, but if you go to the usual lists they are there, and will eventually download. Further launches should update the new games list.

slow games

Every month, I update my Microgaming casinos, as we are all FORCED to do.

This month should have been painless, with only 4 new games. However, after all the games are installed my casinos run slow and splutter for a further TWO HOURS!.
I played at Mummys Gold earlier, having updated the 4 games beforehand. While I won in the end, the experience was so bad (software wise) that I had to take two co-codamol for a splitting headache after two hours of infinite delays in launching each and every game, slow and spluttery spins, jerks and display errors - you name it, it happened. After around two hours, the software suddenly freed up and ran smoothly again. At this point, I had pretty much completed the WR on the weekend offer, so out it came (glad that was over).

While I wait for the money, time for some science.

Case in point, Challenge Casino. All 4 games updated, and have left it logged in for a while, BUT it gives problems with some games just refusing to launch, and even simple games such as Double Magic spluttering and jerking.
I logged off, and retrieved an old friend from my archives, Dependency Walker, to see what was happening.

Well, it was most interesting, I am logging Challenge, supposedly idle having long since updated the new games, but idle it isn't - it's hitting CPU, file system, and internet with the following:-

This seems to happen EVERY MONTH at the upgrade - it isn't just the new games, it is pretty much the whole damn casino that updates,

but WHY!

As the casino grows in size, the strain of this "secret" upgrade hits ever harder, and makes for more and more problems, even on new XP machines now!!!!

Nearly an hour now, so went back to look at casino, and it seems MG programers have a sense of humour after all:-

It's easier to edit the program folder:D

Folder "mupdb" - set both files in it to "read only". If you have the new lobby there will be four, two are obsolete, but do all four to get the right ones.

When you are good and ready to update, set them back.

They couldn't detect a win on an 'old' version and deny payouts for tweaking, could they? My ignorance is showing, but it's a scary thought, huh. Whaddya think?

Doubt it.

Since they deny that all the old games update every month, this should not be a problem. Naturally, you will be unable to access any new games, however, you may prefer a stable casino.

My hand has now been forced, it is no longer a question of time, ALL this months updates include an upgrade that causes my PC to crash with a BSOD after play when I try to shut down windows. Worse, I find that huge chunks of my hard drive vanish into the murky realms of "lost chains", and my available space is grossly exaggerated in Windows explorer, which causes more problems when the OS thinks I have 5 Gig left, but in fact I have nothing (PC freezes & repeatedly runs disk cleanup every other minute).

I have set a whole swathe of MG casinos on this old PC to prevent the update, and have left a few I have updated to see if MG manage to fix this. I can accept the updates on my new machine, as although there are many problems, I do not end up with a fully blown crash and OS damage.

Since MG are supposedly "working on it", and are aware of this thread, it is worth continuing to relate experiences, including fixes, as they come along.

As to game results, it is the Playcheck result that counts, if the display screws up, the casino will use the playcheck. There was a recent case of a bug in Classic BJ causing the Ace of Spades to be displayed instead of the true card. This meant players made the wrong plays, however, the casino stuck to the "playcheck is right" line until it became clear it was an MG issue rather than the user being "mistaken", or having a virus on the PC.
