Playtech like MG fell behind years ago by relying on safe income streams (UK bookies with their volumes and Viper clients respectively). MG did at least try and supply games to multi-platforms via Quickfire etc. which weren't great, better than the ruinous html5 versions. I wondered when Playtech would move into the modern era and supply multiplatform casinos with their catalogue of games!

Alas, in those years the Playtech catalogue has become dated and obsolete in comparison with superior developers like BTG, NoLimitCity, Push Gaming, Thunderkick, Yggdrasil, Blueprint, Play'n Go and even Netent. MG tried to escape the development black hole they are in by using Megaways and farming out work to partner studios like GameBurger and JFTW etc. for their games which are alas generally crap. Playtech took over Quickspin, a more dynamic outfit but what have we seen of note since? A rip-off (Sticky Bandits 3) of Netent's DoA2 High Noon bonus and much mediocrity.

I always rated MG (of old) pound-for-pound a better developer than Playtech. When joining a bookies site, when did people ever use the 'slots' tab (Playtech) as opposed to the 'games' or 'vegas' tabs for the combined developers' slots? And that's even with bonuses only being valid on Playtech in some cases. When did we last see a screenshot on here of a Playtech slot game? Who still plays them, and I include players at the bookie sites of which there are many here? How many affiliate sites even bother to review Playtech slots nowadays? I can name numerous ones that don't as in the grand scheme of things they have become an irrelevance.

That's why I can understand Playtech belatedly making this move. They need to take on the worldwide market developers and move away from the large volume 'safe' casinos mainly Gib/UK/Ireland owned, to try and cash in on the burgeoning international multiplatform operations. Alas, not being overly critical but just stating the facts, why would punters play on them in any numbers, firstly because of the games being obsolete in comparison to many others and more importantly from a marketing perspective, where are they on the review sites and YT videos/streams? Where is the player awareness going to come from, because branded games they provide simply won't cut it - they need popular and revolutionary slots which carry more weight due to their mechanic and player preference than branding will ever provide.

Good luck to them, but unless they come up with a 'Bonanza' themselves or a Jammin' Jars etc. I can't see what this will achieve in the end.

Very hard to argue against any aspect of your post Dunover. This however, may well become a good marriage, time will tell I guess.
