Rival Casinos Pull Out of Canada

Hi Everyone,

I am writing today to inform you of a change to Casino operations for
Canadian players at Paradise 8 and Cocoa Casino.

Beginning February 1st, 2009, Canadian players will not be allowed to
register new accounts with any Rival powered casino. Existing Canadian
players will not be permitted to deposit in the casino from this point on, and will be ineligible for any bonuses.

Rival executives have made the decision to cease operations with Canadian
players because of a request from many of their suppliers located in Canada. For various reasons, these suppliers have asked Rival to sever ties with Canadian players and Rival has agreed.

February 28, 2009 at midnight EST will see all existing Canadian player accounts suspended indefinitely. Players have been urged to use the month of February to complete any wagering on active promotions and withdraw funds from their accounts. Any funds left in their account after February 28th, 2009 will not be cashable and the player will not be allowed to login to their account.

If you have campaigns running for Paradise 8 / Cocoa Casino that are directed strictly at Canadian players, they will no longer be effective beginning February 1st. Paradise 8 and Cocoa Casino will continue to promote and accept players from the USA and every other country in the world with the same vigor and as always, contact me if you need a banner or would like to set up an exclusive promotion with us.

Any funds left in their account after February 28th, 2009 will not be cashable and the player will not be allowed to login to their account.

Too bad if a Player is currently away or worse not well.

They have their player details, send them their money.
Anything other than bonus money is the players money. It's not the casinos choice to keep it!

IMHO this is stealing and blatant rogue behaviour

I wonder whether this withdrawal from Canada (but not the US) has anything to do with the civil claims in a Quebec court against Rival by a Montreal marketing outfit (see Casinomeister News)

Four Canadian residents were named in that suit as having ownership interests in Rival and its associated companies like Black Chip etc.

Well the reason for the quick exit is vague at the very least. So at a guess you've probably hit the nail on the head

Yep, that was an interesting article and helped me connect some dots. I believe CM has seen it but not sure if he read it.

Imo, the way they are handling the payments and promotions of their progressive jackpots, is at minimum wrong (not ready to say theft, maybe fraud).

I can also unequivocally say that the house edge they represented until late October 2008 in BJ was incorrect (actually for those affected, I'm not sure the house edge can be determined) due to (and the nature of) a/the major software malfunction but Rivals needs to come forward on the subject malfunction I would hope with the truth.

I'm a slot player, I've found with Rival that their games go hot and cold. Especially after a decent win. I know this isn't exactly on topic, but, things in my view started going pear shaped & have stayed that way, since they (Rival) started fiddling with the pay-out structure of their slots.

I'm always suspicious when a current slot is getting updated every couple of months. They've been at this caper for the past 2 or so years. You'd think by now they'd have each slot perfected

I don't play at Rival much these days because of all the updates and flunky slot tweaking.

Well, this goes nicely with emails I received today from Rival Casinos...none of which offered any news of this, just offered deposit bonuses. I don't play at Paradise 8 or Cocoa Casino, but there are other Rivals I deposit and play at.

How soon were they planning on letting players know? It is an outrage they would consider retaining funds, especially when players are not given much notice.

I'm off to claim any comp points I may have anywhere, and play off the odd few cents.

I got emails from Myan fortune, Pantasia, and Simon Says. IMO this is not being handled well and I would urge my American friends to think twice about playing at Rivals. If Canadians are being pulled, you can bet you're next.

It's a shame, I liked their games and enjoyed a change of pace every so often. guess I shall just stick to my 2 RTG's and my one MG and be done with the rest. My computer is about to have a lot more free space...

Hi everyone, this is something that I have received from Rival concerning withdrawing money from accounts.

"Canadian players will have the months of February and March to withdraw any remaining funds from their account. If there are any remaining funds after the stipulated time line, the player may email support and they will withdraw the funds for the player."

Sorry for any problems that may have arise from this and I hope this clears up some concerns about the notification. If there is anything else that you would like to know, just ask and I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.

Okay, had to edit since finding this.
Can we see in writing somewhere where these suppliers requested this?
What is the reason these suppliers requested to sever ties with Canadian players?
And you stated many, does that mean not ALL suppliers asked?

Business aside, there are a number of ways this could be handled. Are they banning Canadians because of rogues or bonus abusers from Canada? If so, they shouldnt sort them out using tougher bonus terms instead of 'discriminating' against the Canucks. There are plenty of decent honest Canadiancs who are a steady source of income for Rivals. If they are unable to do this, they could still retain their present Canadian players until they sort out the mess.

I dont get it. They dont ban US players (no offense guys) though the US Govt is clearly against online gaming whereas they are doing this to Canadians whose Government hasnt taken a hard stance on this issue. So whatcha doing next? Ban us Chinese or the Brits (KK will be mad). To do an exercise of this proportion there must be a valid reason or is discrimination well and truly alive?

Glad you confirmed some concerns regarding Rival's exit transition from Canada.

FTR, my comment pursuant to Rival's progressive jackpot winner's being paid in weekly installments and other issues related to progressive jackpots still stands and as was previously posted in more detail in another thread.

Based on a color highlighted sentence(s) in Trezz's original post and Jetset's thereafter, Pandora's Box opened for moi on the subject progressive jackpot issues not only to patron's from Canada but all market's as Rival's has yet to privately or publically adequately address certain issues of concern pursuant to progressive jackpots.

Still without going into speculative what if's for the patrons of Canada, it certainly can be reasonably assumed that Rival's patrons from Canada have contributed to the current progressive jackpots. It would be/is simply wrong by whatever means these or for that matter any progressive jackpot cash funds are (in the past or future) a cash windfall to Rivals and/or it's subject casinos.

As for connecting the dots, that is just a comment on a paragraph in Jetset's article which a small part of was ironic but currently of no significance considering the source being a party to perhaps a frivilous civil litigation lawsuit, so please disregard.

FTR, I did enjoy my play at Rivals. Yet for Rivals to achieve it's full potential, there should be an emphasis in the future on transparency and accountability among other issues that need attention or improvement. JMO though!

I hope all the RPJ's are won by Canadian player's (with no bonuses involved) on the day they cease operations in Canada. Then, they would be actual winners and would not be able to lose their winnings (credits and/or cash) back to the same casino as most will when paid in installments. I remember CM posting such in the Blackjack Ballroom thread. FTR, I would lose it back somewhere soon enough but some may not given a choice

That's a positive move imo. Now let's see at the very least what sort of "suppliers" have been influential enough to put Rival in a position where it feels it must exit what must be a reasonably profitable market and risk upsetting its licensees.

I wouldn't call the T2 Marketing lawsuit against four of this group's Canadian owners "frivolous", btw - having read the Quebec court documents and their documentary proof I think they may well have a solid and well founded case.
