RIP Sir David Amess. Murdered today in what can only be described as a terrorist attack by a 25 yo Somalian Muslim. From what I can gather he was quite a humanitarian who fought for the improvement of the lives of the poorer in society as well as animal rights. He was avidly apposed to the Halal method of butchery.
It seems that MP's protection needs urgently reviewed

Yup, that's where we're at now, the absolute hate-filled, irrational act of civilians walking into an MP's place of work and murdering them in cold blood.

And yes as mentioned, Amess sought to end a lot of the inequalities in society and seemed to always pursue noble causes, tackling knife crime being one of them. A good guy whose life was ended in the most heinous way, by the very people he tried to help. RIP.

Exactly. How can MP's be seen to be helping their constituents if they don't carry out their job and be a public face in the community that they represent? If they don't do these things they know that they will be viewed as remote and not really interested in the constituency.
My guess is that they will hold surgeries via zoom/online unless the person has no internet and those they do see it will be don't with proper protection?

And Keir Starmer spouting off about how tragic his murder was while he has done nothing about sacking a councilor found guilty of harassing a lady, threatening to throw acid at her and to release naked pictures of her?

We'll likely never know the reason for why this happened, and now there are calls for Angela Rayner to apologize for labelling Tories as 'scum' 🤷‍♀️

Goes to show though that when you throw that rhetoric out there, you'll affect the mindset of certain individuals to view politicians as fair game.

Whilst Rayner isn't to blame for the deed, her stoking the fire with inflammatory 'them against us' rallying cries hasn't exactly helped, in what is already a charged climate. Don't think she will retract her statement after the fact, nor will security tighten up everywhere. At least not long-term...

I'm not really sure if things where changed at all in the long term after Jo Cox was murdered? There have been about 11 MP's attacked now over recent years. The rhetoric in politics has became much more toxic in the last decade for sure. Look at America. But then there has been a huge ramp up in divisions in society in general too.
No wonder folk struggle more these days with day to day life.

Politicians have a duty of responsibility to watch how they communicate things. They are well paid people with responsibility on their shoulders. Using inflammatory language sets a bad example to the very people they are representing. If they can’t maintain a modicum of professionalism then they’re in the wrong job.

This applies to politicians on any part of the political spectrum.

I put forward Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to write up a politician's guide of conduct for those in political office

Absolutely horrific.

The conspiracy theorist in me says there is much more to this than meets the eye. This fine MP was seriously anti covid restrictions, and anti pharma corruption.

Whether it was just a mad Islamic immigrant or something more sinister, RIP to a good man.
The final conclusion anyway will be that the suspect was a Somalian man with mental problems.

Priti Patel doing her usual tough-talking routine about all the things she'll probably not do.

Round-the-clock security for MPs.....paid for by?......

Of course what's likely to happen is that most will remain defiant and not be cowed, whilst some *may* abandon face-to-face meetings altogether in favour of Zoom and whatnot.

Then, once all the political figures and pseudo-celebrities have finished with their lamentations, the story will be forgotten, much like nothing changed in the wake of Jo Cox's murder either.

But then the question is raised as to how someone followed through on their death threats to Amess, with the police fully aware days/ weeks prior, and how to prevent such acts from actually being perpetrated.

Patel's suggestion to waive users' anonymity on Social Media is quite reactionary, but likely causes greater problems down the road.

You'd think the police would already know the identity of outright dangerous posters, and by all means, make their names known to all. Yet making everyone's identity public knowledge is only going to lead to personal 'retributions', doxing and whatever else, based on 'disagreements'. Of which there are a few, it has been said.....

Would this not just lead to nefarious individuals trying other ways to remain anonymous or attempting to hack other people's accounts (which happens enough as it is). As you say, sets off a whole raft of other issues.

I like to the fact that he seemed to be a good man wishing to do well. I can not swallow the notion that it could be any kind of conspiracy. Jumping to conclusions or suspecting such stuff simply trips up those who are just wanting to seek some sort of truth from the endless barrage of info that can be found out their on the interweb.
The msm is not reliable but nor is much info from unverified sources online.
I suspect it is much more to do with a limited education,a limited IQ as well as misguided influences. Maybe mental health too?

I wasn't aware you are now a member of CM staff, as you appear to be trying to dictate actions and reactions to posts.

Same as I obviously didn't get the memo which stated we can only reply to - or comment on - certain posts.

Reported for being a Troll.
Huh? You quoted me and responded so I responded back without any trolling or dictating. This is how a forum works.

The obvious difference between those 2 outspoken US congress women, is one is put on a pedestal by the press -and thus her radical style is quietly approved and promoted. Whereas the other gets the trash can treatment.
I wouldn't say AOC is put on a pedestal, but she certainly doesn't receive the same amount of vitriol that MTG does.

I said earlier that I find them both repulsive. Let me rephrase that.

AOC's rhetoric is often so aggressive, I find it difficult to listen to her without wanting to tell her to STFU.

MTG I find dangerous as she holds extreme views that align with the QAnon movement, particularly their belief that the Sandy Hook and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shootings were 'False Flags".

Are you expecting me to give a response and if so why do you think I should?

Passive-aggressive at it's finest.

I didn't respond. I commented - there is a big difference.

Forums work best when people engage in a discourse, but with you, it is all Attack! Attack! Attack! This latest post of yours is a prime example.

You have posted some very good stuff in the past, but overall, you appear to be incapable of responding to - or commenting on - anything without becoming so aggressive it is unpleasant to interact with you.

So in future I won't be.

I am placing you on ignore, as my personal belief is that you are doing immense damage to the CM forum, and I simply don't want to be part of your agenga.

Her coverage is mixed, but for me the underlying one is approval and support. However If she was standing to be the next president and trying to sell socialism, she'd probably face the bernie treatment.

The rhetoric from the radical movement has got more of a foothold in mainstream political discourse than say Mtg's.

I don't know much about those two incidents, but the las vegas shooter incident had some strange elements iirc. We had the dunblane massacre, the files have been sealed for 100 years, secrecy and apparent inconsistencies always lead to speculation.

I was working temporarily in Inverness in 1996, and a few days before Dunblane, when driving back to London I visited both Stirling Castle and Dunblane cathedral. I was going to stay in the area for a couple of days to do more sightseeing, but instead drove down to Durham and stayed there instead.

What a difference a day - or two - can make in one's life.

I wasn't aware the files had been sealed, but came across this on the BBC from 2019:

The 100-year ban covered police reports about incidents of alleged abuse at a summer camp run by Hamilton.
However, speculation emerged that the reports linked the mass murderer with members of the Scottish establishment.

And therein lies the problem: Suppressing details leads to speculation which almost inevitably becomes a conspiracy theory.

Wow that must have created an eerie feeling when the news reported it, the peace and pleasant location you just left, broken shortly afterwards by absolute evil.

Let us not over analyze this Ladyhawk. My original remark was part jocular and was not intended to be the topic of endless discussion.
