Yes, "Mega Moolah" was actually released this month after being delayed for 2 months and is definately
the star of this release. But MG also relased 3 other slots where 'only' one of them actually is a clone.
Besides the 5-reel slots "All Aces" VP was also relased as 50-play and 5 multi-hand version of popular BJ games was also relased. I will not review the BJ games - Someone else (a BJ lover) can have that honour.
Mega Moolah:
Medium/High Variance slot
25 lines
The intro to the slot is pretty but not very exciting. So my favorite MG intro is stil 'Loaded'. Most people just click past the intro anyway.
The symbol-graphics are excellent. The animals have the 'cartoonish' look that I like. Last month I criticized
the 'Flying Circus' slot for trying to look too realistic which just does not fit into my slot world. But I am
very sad that MG have once again included the 9TJQKA symbols they believe must be a part of every theme. The sound does go well with the slot. Not too noisy with some 'savannah'-wildlife samples and a pleasant spinning sound. The same spinning sound has been used in other slots before though.
The slot is a standard freespin/multiplier slot that most slot players prefer, but this time a 4-tier
rapid fire jackpot has been added.
3 scatters triggers 15 freespins with *3 multiplier during the freespins and the feature can be retriggered.
This is good news. It is very used standard feature, but it is still a very good one.
The wild symbol substitues for all symbol except scatters and multiplies win *2. 5 wild pays 15000.
More good news. Wild symbols that does not multiply wins are too old-style and not as funny. And I am
very pleased 5 wild also has a high pay. It was a disgrace that 5 wilds in "Dolphin Tale" only paid 3000 coins compared to how hard it is to hit and I generally find anything below 10000 coins an insult. Increasing the pay for 5 wild has very very little impact on the slots payout%.
So what is all this 4-tier jackpot about?
Pretty simple. It is a multi-tiered rapid fire jackpot as known from Intercasino's Marvels slots.
The 4 jackpots starts at:
Tier 1:10$
Tier 2:100$
Tier 3:10.000$
Tier 4:1M$
So how do you win one of the jackpots?
Pretty simple also. Every spin gives a chance to win one of the jackpots so you do not have to do anything except the play as usual. It is just an added feature. The help page says:
"The higher you bet the higher you chances of winning the progressive jackpot".
I am certain the precise chance for winning is proportional to the bet size. This way payout% for the slot is the same no matter what bet-size you play. Intercasino and almost all other rapid fire jackpots I have know of work this way and it is the right and fair way to do it. It is interesting that RTG claim their jackpots does not depend on bet size, but I simply do not believe it from some simple mathematic arguments. But basically you should be very happy about how the trigger for the "Mega Moolah" jackpots works. But low rollers and high rollers have the same payout% though highrollers of course will win the jackpot more often. But you can win the 1M jackpot as a low-roller!
"Mega Moolah" does live up to my expectations and they have been high, especially after the two months extended waiting period where they released some extremely boring slots to make matters worse. "Mega Moolah" is targetted at the masses and MG hit right on. There is no new specialized mechanics as in "Mad Hatters" etc. - but that is fine with me. They do not want "Mega Moolah" to be too complicated for the casual slot player. I just hope future more specialized slot released will have new mechanics.
I do not need to say "Mega Moolah" made it to my favorite slot list. But it is sad that it actually makes some of the good old school slots obsolete. It has the same (freespin+multiplier) and then some (4-tiered jackpot). But for sentimental reasons I will still visit "Thunderstruck" once in a while, it was pretty revolutionary when it was released.
Glory of Rome:
20 line
Medium Variance
The intro is mostly static picture of things people connect with The Roman empire. A little disappoiting.
The graphics are not state of the art. Not as good as "Mega Moolah" but better than "Flying Circus" (try compare the 3 lion symbols). The 20 lines follow the new slot style of MG, which probably confuse some. But it is fundamentally not important except that you are used to something else. The Empress could have been better. I believe they tried to make her a bit sexy. But her wierd open mouth just makes her look retarted. But maybe you will like her.
Once again this slot has the 9TJQKA symbols, but at least they had a little humor writing 9 as "IX" and 10 as "X", so for once they are forgiven for this. They did make the symbols fit the theme.
This slot is bascially a standard freespin/multiplier with a twist. When you hit the feature you are awared
8 free spins AND 4 picks. Each pick are eigther:
1. 8 additional freespin (rare)
2. 10*bet size price (common)
Since you always will get a few (most often 3) of #2 this means the feature will always give a decent pay.
Nothing is more frustating than finally hitting the feature and then hitting nothing within the feature. Here you are garantied a 'decent win'.
During the freespins wins are multiplied *2 and they can NOT be retriggered.
Also wild does not multiply winnings.
It is not a bad slot but there is nothing really new here. "Glory of Rome" is still better than the slots
released the last 2 months. Actually this is one of the few picking features I like, which is rare.
Summertime:
9 line
Medium/High variance
AARRGGG!
This is another "Thunderstruck" clone as if we did not have enough of these allready.
The only good thing I can say about it is that it does not have the 9TJQKA symbols.
It reminds me nothing of 'Summertime' it has some 20-year old looking fruit/bar/diamond/bell graphics I would expect to see a Las Vegas retro-slot museum. It is a much worse clone that "Thunderstruck" and "Spring Break" etc. because the theme sucks and basically is non-existant. 4 MG harddisk wasted for each MG casino you have installed. I vote this the worst release this year.
Twin Samurai:
20 lines
Low/Medium variance
This is a new slot with new mechanics. The intro movie and graphics does fit the theme well. But yet
again the 9TJQKA symbols are here, which could have been used to complete the theme instead.
Feature:
The feature mode is triggered when 3 scatters appear LEFT TO RIGHT and not just anywhere.
This awards 10 free spins at *2 multiplier which can be retriggered.
New mechanic:
There are only wild on reel #2 and reel #4, but they will expand to fill all 3 symbols on that reel. They do
not multiply winnings.
First of all I do not like scatters that must be 'left to right', because this normally means they often
appear on the reels and gets in the way for other winnings. This is also the case here. Also I miss
the normal wild symbol that appears on all reels. They could still have put the wild symbols on the other reels but only let it expand on reel #2 and #4.
I am sorry that I have to say this slot is not that good when MG finally adds some new mechanics to a slot, which I have been looking forward to since "Mad Hatters". It is not that it is a boring slot, it does not just catch my interest. I will return to play this slot occasionally, but that is it. I am sure some people will like this slot though. I estimate it to be low/medium variance slot, which means you will not go broke as fast as you can on other slots, but you can also not win as much if you are lucky.
All Aces 50-play VP:
This is also a highly awaited release for me personally since VP are my favorite casino games.
Unfortunately the minimum bet on 50-play "All Aces" is 25$, which is too much for my bankroll.
I hope some casino managers will change this for their casinos. (This is one of the few things
the MG casino managers can configure for the games). So I will just keep playing "All Aces" as 10-play with
a total bet of 5$.
What is so special about "All Aces" is that the payout% is 99.92% which is almost revolutionary high
after JoB has been the lowest house egde MG VP for years with payout 99.54%. But to reach the 99.92% you have to adjust to the paytable. I made a simulation showing that playing optimal JoB strategy on "All Aces" only gave a payout% of 98.9%. I was actually surprised it was that low. But this is one of the challenges I like about VP, you have to learn the strategy. And for very good reason MG does not give autoplay on "All Aces" VP. I play VP because playing slots without a bonus will drain your money very fast. Because of the low house egde on "All Aces" I feel I am getting enough entertainment for my $ though the casino eventually will win. But be aware that "All Aces" is a very streaky VP games compared to JoB. If you been decimated at "Loose Dueces" you know what I am talking about.
