Poker Room

RIP Brian
Pokeraddict (or other poker experts here) I'm doing some research into poker sites for a story and wondered whether you could give me your opinions on Poker Room.com?

I believe the software is Ongame from Uppsala in Sweden?

I used to play there quite a bit, the download software is pretty decent, and it is one of the few no-download poker sites on the net. There is a pretty good mix of solid players and bad players there and plenty of traffic at all hours. All in all, I'd say I like their poker. Payouts are generally pretty quick.

I don't like their casino games though...I've seen way too many strange blackjack occurrences there to feel comfortable with them.

Hey, thanks Mugwump - much appreciated. I have heard of that Ongame software somewhere before but I cannot recall whether it was good or bad, or where! Haven't been able to find it again so any input is welcome.

I like pokerroom allot. It's got my favorite software if you'd accept a tie with Absolute. You can always get a game, and the tourneys are top notch and contain a good mix. The waiting list (a small issue... I know) is really easy to use, it ties UB for best on that note in my book.

Out of curiosity, are you from Jetset Poker? I am playing there right now too. Very good software, nice players, I like the site allot (believe me, I don't like them all). Only things that bug me are...

1) Not many games going.
2) 9 man tables (prefer full 10 myself)
3) Games available are extremely tight. Not much "throwin a party" traffic.

I hate 9 people tables, they break too fast. Too many rooms have the idea that a 9 person table will create more rake because fewer people to fill tables but i believe it is a mistake because they break much sooner.

Jetsetpoker.com games are very very tight.

When did Pokerroom.com switch over to 9 person tables? I never noticed it before, but it's been a few months since I played there. I have played at just about all of them by now I think ;)

Thanks for your contribution - very helpful. No, I have no connection in any way, shape or form with Jetset Poker - I can only claim to be the first to use the name as a message board handle, though!!

As I said earlier I am researching them with a view to including them in a poker feature I am preparing.

The more I research this outfit the more interesting it becomes - I did not realise that it is as significant as it clearely is, and claims to be the fifth largest poker network with a very large international player base.

Apparently the Ongame software is provided by a sister company called PokerNetwork and they intend to license it to high end casinos and sportsbooks - in fact their first licensee is a London-based sportsbook called Betsson according to the press releases.

One of it's advantages is its availability in both Java no-download and download platforms, making it accessible to Linus and Mac players, too.

I'm a IT instructor at a local university, and the students all have PC's at their desks. Generally the students are playing games or web surfing prior to the start of class (and sometimes, when I'm particularly boring, during class....) and one of the most popular activities for them is no-limit holdem on Pokerroom's fun money tables. Its the only poker site I've ever seen them use.

For whatever reason, and perhaps its the no-download thing, this site has always seemed to be pretty popular, despite the lack of advertising it recieves compared to Partypoker, etc.

Affiliates don't like to advertise them because they will lure players from the poker to the casino games they offer and won't pay affiliates after that. That is commonly considered theft - it also means that affiliates are not aware of their visitors playing there and won't be able to intervene in case of trouble. Remember, affiliates need leverage over the casino if they are going to be useful.

If they straightened that out they would likely get huge exposure.

Yes, Poker Room is one of the few that offers no-download. Also their minimum deposit is only $10. They seem to offer a lot of games and quite a few players are online all the time.

I have been a pokerroom member for quite a while and have seen no pressure, and little incentive, to go play at the casino. I think your argument here is a bit exageratted.

It doesn't matter how hard they try to get you to play casino games.

It is still theft from an affiliate point of view, and it is misleading the players who take the time to choose an affiliate carefully.

Players choose affiliates carefully? I don't know of a whole lot of people that specifically choose a site to sign up through (except the kickback sites) because of who the site is. I know I certainly don't.
