Won my way into the Saturday 20k tourney through a satellite. When I went to open up PKR a message "system 8 file lockout" came up. So I cancelled and tried again. This happen three times. So to ensure that nothing was wrong with my internet, I tried other sites and found that they opened up no problem. So I tried PKR again and got the message "unable to reach PKR servers" I then closed down and rebooted. Again it told me that it could not reach PKR servers. By this time I had been at my computer trying to log into PKR for three quaters of an hour. The tourney starts in 15 mins and i could not log into PKR. So I rebooted again. This time I received a message "downloading delta cache/ delta build 7864.arc" However, I waited and waited and nothing seemed to download. So I rebooted again and tried other sites and found that they opened no problem. So I tried to log into PKR again and got the same message. So i waited and waited (by this time the tourney had started) and finally it started to download. However, as I do not have fast broadband, the update download was taking forever. My 28 B/sec was taking too long and by the time it would have been downloaded I would have been at least an hour late for the tourney.
In frustration I stopped the download.
Now I know that these poker sites have to upgrade but surely PKR must know that as their site is a big file, and many players are going to be caught out if they have to download any upgrades before they can log onto the site! Surely they must understand that players are not going to have their computers on all the time and opened to their site? Many players like me are going to log in just prior to the tourney starting. If an upgrade is required then me like many players are going to be compromised and at a disadvantage by the time they get into the tourney.
Surely any upgrade should not stop you from logging in to a site and playing a tourney? Why carn't the upgrade be continuing on in the background? Can anything be done about this?
