New Slot Announcement Ping Pong Star (or MG Bonanza)

I was super curious, so I actually signed up at one of CR's casinos (not a fan, btw). I really like the slot, though! Lots of Megaways games are high variance, so I don't get much play out of them but I was on this for at least an hour and a half with .60 bets. I even screencapped my first 100 spins because I know the game's not widely available yet.

Yesterday, Microgaming and Foxium released Boom Pirates - which is another Megaways-style game, as it was offering up to 10 million ways to win or something ridiculous like that. I wasn't a huge fan though. The reels didn't expand very often, so it just played like any other slot.

I wrote the review for the game but it is not clear whether it is Microgaming, although I published it under Microgaming. CasinoRewards is still MG only, so they must have somehow gotten the game onto the Quickfire platform. That can't happen without Microgaming's knowledge, AFAIK.

Been in touch with CasinoRewards and waiting for an answer.

According to CR, the game was developed by ZeroFox Entertainment which is apparently a 100% subsidiary of CR, but the game is hosted on Microgaming's Quickfire platform.

So not a Microgaming creation, but then they haven't developed any slots lately anyway as the content is coming from partner studios. Will have to keep an eye whether ZeroFox will be one of the partners any time soon.

I took the screenshots from the download version of a CR casino. It must be developed for MG, I don't think it can be anything else.

I wonder what BTG will think of it? It's a dead copy of Bonanza aside from a slightly higher volatility due to a fraction more weighting being on the picture symbols and less on the card values.

Zerofox don't look like a slot dev outfit to me?

Wonder what @Big Time Gaming thinks?

I shouldn't think theyve much say on the matter; I mean, there's a bajillion BoD clones that come though, so this can't really be any different. They were bound to have a clone(s) out there sooner or later

They have a licence and trademark which other companies have been willing to pay for I doubt BTG is going to let this company steal their property.

but what is their property?
It's neither named Bonanza nor Megaways nor has the identical games mechanic
if the weighting is even off a smidge, it's a new product (I'm gathering)
I can't imagine it's any different than the zillion phone clones, or well, any single item you can purchase on say, Amazon.
I'm not a lawyer - though there's probably one or 2 in here - I'd think once reverse-engineered, you'd just need to 'tweak it enough' to be different
@trancemonkey - any insight? I'm sure this has come up in the history of slots...well...often

There is nothing to steal... they may have patented Megaways but I'm not sure it would hold up in court. And anyway, it would only hold up in the US and maybe AUS. In Europe (possibly Asia too) you can't patent a game design, so it doesn't hold water at all.

And Megaways might be TM'd but that doesn't stop someone doing something similar and using a different name.

'm guessing it's like burgers; anyone can put out a burger
You couldn't market a 2 all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun, and call it a Big Mac
But there's probably burgers made of 2 all beef patties, secret sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a ciababta bun

They've trademarked the word 'Megaways'. The information for which, can be easily found with Google.
But so far no one has been able to find any information regarding any patents

The companies who paid a licences fee to BTG, are going to be rather pissed off.
If it transpires that they could have just copied for free
