thanks for the info, I dont understand how can a online poker room fail, they get the rake.
Four failed rooms come to mind this year.
Propoker widely believed to be a scam that used bots.
Choice appears to have run off with the money. The Choice Poker you see now is a part of the ACR network and is banked by Betcris under new ownership, the old room was a standalone that had a few skins that have now all joined ACR.
Bigbet had ridiculous daily promotions and huge overlay tournaments that blew between $600 and $1000 a day. They paid out almost $30,000 in bad beat jackpots over a 3 month span, most of this money was paid out to props who never paid a dime in rake. They also blew a huge promotion where they guaranteed a tournament winner would win $2500, then cancelled the $100 buy in tourney when less then 10 people registered. When cashouts got slow due to the massive amount of money they gave away people ran.
YPN got a terrible reputation in many online players minds due to involvement with some very unpopular people in the online poker community. They then had a terrible rake structure that discouraged players and a bonus that was literally impossible to clear They also had huge overlays in tournaments.
A mistake it seems many stuggling rooms make is that they make $xxx guaranteed tournaments. These usually just attract people that will hit and run these tournaments and it also takes the existing ring game players out of those raked games into a house losing tournament.
Also keep in mind in the small rooms many of the players are being paid by the house to help keep games going. They arent cheating as they have no advantage other then the pay, they just have rules they must follow. The house makes very little if any money off of them. Often they lose money due to deposit and cashout costs and promos prop players are allowed to participate in. There is also usually a 5-10% of pay paid in prop management fees.
Sorry I know I got the thread off topic, I was just trying to help answer some questions.
