It's been mentioned in another thread - Novibet in Support of Gamble Aware & Safer Gambling Initiatives - Casinomeister Forum

And I hope nobody minds but I think it needs its own because it deserves attention and clarification.

Many CM members have received an email today, which seems to be a blanket approach from Novibet:

After speaking with Novibet Live Chat, because I have no desire to review my limits, I was informed I am unable to deposit until I submit the requested documentation.

@Novibet Rep

Can you please confirm what kind of limit this is?

Is it a monthly deposit limit? a Loss Limit? or a SOW threshold?

Novibet is a highly recommended, vetted Accredited Casino at Casinomeister:
Sounds like a limit they’ve put in place that, in order to exceed, you need to prove you can afford it.

I’m usually quite critical of this stuff but a £500 per month loss limit seems very fair for most casual players. It’s circa 25% of average salary. At least it’s up front and there’s no messing about, nor hidden stuff.

This shows they’ve separated the two issues that are often conflated with these checks, AML and responsible gambling; some casinos role them into one and shouldn’t be doing this. Fair play to Novibet.

Agreed, hence, why I have no desire to exceed it, but deposits are blocked and we have rolled over into a new month, I think.

Some clarification would be nice of exactly what it is and what the rules of the game are.

Perhaps it will be a rolling limit rather than one that runs from the 1st of the month to month’s end.

Just read the other thread…yeah Novibet are going to haemorrhage customers by doing this. It’s insane from a business perspective and there is no need to be so draconian.

I initially thought they were limiting players to a £500 loss a month…which is fair enough. However having read the other thread it seems like you have to provide full unredacted statements just to get that £500 limit? We’re certainly reaching some level of insanity right now.

Yeah, good luck with that. Think they’d be better just pulling out of the UK market if their risk appetite is that low.

Hello everyone,
We appreciate your concerns and have read every single comment taking in and forwarding all of your useful feedback to appropriate departments. We would really like to apologize for the apparent lack of clarity in our email regarding the loss limit of £500. I will try to clarify in this comment.

First, Novibet is committing itself far more deeply into the concept of Responsible Gambling. As a consequence of that, certain policies have been adopted including the Loss Limit & Deposit Limit of £500 per calendar month. If you reach your £500 limit on the last day of the month (28th of February e.g.), you will be able to start again from scratch on the 1st of the next month (1st of March e.g.).

Users who surpassed the limit of £500 last month received an email (some of you have posted it above too) requiring them to proceed with certain actions regarding their account in order to ‘unlock’ it. Depending on a player’s activity it is at the discretion of the company to require their Source of Wealth, always based on the principles of Responsible Gambling.

We would like to stress once again how sorry we are for any confusion the email might have caused and express our hope that through our Responsible Gambling policies we can all have fun but a bit more responsibly! :)

Hi there! So let me get this right. If i am already verified, Which i am, do i need to re verify or not? Im still confused wether i need to send my i.d again or not. Can you check my account please and let me know what is needed if anything. Thanks!

So even if people submit the source of wealth, they will still be limited to £500 a month ?

Hi, I had a similar email at the end of January, it's now February and I still can't deposit. On further investigation my monthly deposit limit has now been dropped to a quid! I'm not prepared to submit all my personal bank details for SOW, I'm a Director in a company and the last firm I had this issue with wanted full on company accounts which I think is way over the top. Should I expect my £1 limit to go back to £500 or am I another customer gone?

Does this mean if we have received the email we can still have it looked at by a person to decide if the source of wealth is revelant and required?

I ask because I have received the email and had my deposit limit dropped to £1 however I am happy to have a limit lower than £500 a month.

It seems like the action was taken in a blanket form by an automated system and not actually looked at by any human with any common sense.

I would understand submitting source of wealth if I wanted to deposit above the £500 imposed limit but as I am happy with have a limit of £500 or below I do not understand nor will I be complying with the requirement to send 3 months bank statements.

If it's not possible to continue with a limit below the £500 without supplying such personal information then I will have to move on from Novibet. This would be disappointing as I have always enjoyed Novibet and been a customer for several years.

I am not an active Novibet customer,I have been in the past, but I do think £500 loss per month to the casual slotter like myself who make deposits ranging between £10 and £50 per time is not that bad. The problem is when casinos, not just Novibet, start asking for bank statements when proof of payment such as bank cards and e wallets is not considered to be enough. It's this ridiculous situation that is killing the UK casino industry. If I go to a sports event or a pub or club I only need proof of age and gambling is very similar to these forms of entertainment. Proof of age and ownership of a payment type should be all anybody needs to gamble online. No bank statements, wage slips ( mind your own business ) and other invasive nonsense should be lobbied against by the industry itself if it wants to stay in business.

This seems like an excuse for Novibet to leave the UK market.

It can’t be sustainable having all your customers restricted to 500 a month .

Thanks for the reply.

I think placing a limit and then applying that limit over the previous month is poor practice. Like changing the rules and penalising people previous to the change.

And I don't mean to hang on to every word, the written text can be open to interpretation, but I am responsible and don't need to be judged, I have family and friends for that one. That said, that mindset is more of an industry-wide issue, rather than just a Novibet one.

Will submit my statements as requested. I'm running short on decent casinos to play :)

They say it is a deposit or loss limit ..

So you could deposit 500 , win 10000, withdraw 10000, and then not be allowed to deposit again for 30 days even though you are 2000% up.

Crazy whoever thought that one up .

Does not make any business sense whatsoever.

It could also be interpreted that if you win , then they are saying you should not withdraw and keep the money in your betting account as then you can use it all without restriction.

Which is surely against responsible gaming rules ?

If Novibet confirm this is the case then the UKGC will be getting an email from me .

Apparently it is also based on bonus money, But I am totally confused by the whole situation.

I deposited £150, got £150 match bonus. Built it up a bit, and withdrew some, without even touching the bonus money.

Deposited another £150, lost it. Then I deposited another £150, placed a straight up bet on red, bet rejected, red came in. Placed another £150 on red, bet rejected again, red came in.

Sent them the message -
Twice I had a winning bet of £150 on red declined on live roulette because it says it exceeds the bonus bet amount. I am not on a bonus, this is a raw deposit.

So the error I had related to exceeding the bonus bet amount. Their reply talks about the £500 limit, and that
You have already reached this limit (£449.89) and this is the reason why you cannot have activity.

In raw deposits I made £450 worth, so I was still under the limit. They added on the £150 bonus I received and did not even touch.

So I am essentially down £300 from 2 bets that were rejected for apparently being over my loss limit, even though the error related to bonus.

Very very good point.

Closed a/c here as well cos of that - day 1 and they say you have breached the limit? Really poor Novibet.

So it's a 500 limit, but it isn't really?

96 or not, not really worth playing here because they're obviously adopting a very weird approach to RG.

Rather play at Unibet on 94 and not have to go through that nonsense.

I had money in my account and still do. I cant even lose it on slots or a sports bet. As it wont even let you play slots or do bets until you send in docs regardless if you are already fully verified like i am. There wanting some type of proof of funds either wage slip or something showing you have funds to be able to gamble. I told live chat i would give them a wage slip at the end of the month, and the account will not be closed while they await my wage slip. So thats what happened in my situation if it helps anyone. :)

I wonder if this is applicable for all countries or just the UK? Can people please decide what they want to spend their money on? This over controlling is unnecessary and annoying. All for rg but make it reasonable and not a pain in the ass for players.
