We need to show more sympathy for these people.
    * They travel miles in the heat.
    * They risk their lives crossing a border.
    * They don't get paid enough wages.
    * They do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do.
    * They live in crowded conditions among a people who speak

    A different language.
    * They rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day ~

    Every day.
I'm not talking about illegal Mexicans. I'm talking about our military

Troops! Doesn't it seem strange that many Democrats and Republicans

Are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegals, but don't

Support our troops, and are even threatening to defund them?

this is an e-mail that was sent to me.

No disrespect meant, Kauphy, but I think you need to be a bit more selective in the "e-mails" you choose to post and believe in.

Sympathy? Eh, not really from me. There's a reason it's called a volunteer Army - they volunteer for it, and if they don't like it - tough titty for them.

Perhaps you can tell I'm an ex-drill sergeant :p

But yeah, I feel for them when times are tough.

I have to agree on this one...and, I have to say one more thing. I've noticed a lot of your posts are somewhat controversial, which is fine and I love a spritied debate but if there is a pattern to them one begins to question why the post. The pattern I'm referring to is saying "this is an email I received". O.K., are you posting it to find out what other people think or to start a controversy and then claim no responsibility by saying it was just "an email someone sent to me?" I'm not trying to be mean, but there needs to be some input on your part as to why or if you want discussion. Just my 2 cents.

i put it on here in support of the people who risk their lifes everyday to keep us free.

and how they are treated by our goverment.

regardless of weather they volunteer for it or not they are still laying down their lifes for us and some of them are not treated very well when they come home.

and yes i do know for a fact that they are not treated very good my dad was in and i saw how he was treated when he needed help and my uncle was in and my husband was in and got hurt and i see how he is being treated.

maybe i,m reading this wrong or something but to me its about r troops and how they are treated. when people who don,t even belong here get treated better then they do.

if i,m worng i,m sure someone will point it out.

I can see what Kauphy is trying to say in a way, i think about my husband Jim who has told me stories about how he landed at LAX airport and was spat upon by American citizens when he came home from Veitman, was called a baby killer and other vile things, he was just a young man, whom when duty called he went, wasnt a draft dodger, didnt need to high tail it to Canada or the University to avoid going.

They were more concerned about the people in Veitnam, than their very own troops.

When you sign up in a volunteer Army, your ass belongs to Uncle Sam(US) for your stint.

I just hope that the 2 wars we are fighting doesnt become another Veitnam for this era for us.

People will always see different sides when there is a war or policed action going on, but we in the US do need to support our troops we dont have to support the war, they need to know that we have their backs here at home.

    Kauphy,

I know your upset over the Arizona lawsuit as well as many Americans are, you live there and we dont, so you see this first hand as it affects you and your state.

There is really no comparing that illegals are treated better than our own troops as its just not true.

When i posted earlier i was comparing a different generation of radicals who opposed the war in Veitnam, those were our own citizens, not illegals. Thats what i was trying to point out.

So first Kauphy gets crap for not posting where or how she came up with the things she's posting. Then to satisfy people she writes at the bottom "from an email" and still gets crap???

Kauphy can believe in or post whatever she pleases (with limitations of course) if some people don't like it, there is an ignore button, or maybe don't comment or read her posts...what's the problem? Pretty simple.

Right wing propaganda. Okay, I've said it. It's BS.

There is plenty of government support for veterans. Sure, the system is not perfect (what government department is?), but there is plenty of support. You (as a veteran) just need to look for it.

There are educational benefits, free counseling (both family and personal), job placement, housing support, associations, and a whole slew of other things. I don't get where people think that vets don't get support.

As for public attitudes towards vets, a lot has changed since the 60's - early 70s. People are able to differentiate between what the government does and the plight of an individual soldier. When I got out in '92, sure I had a hell of a time finding work since my skills were with the combat arms, but that was my choice and I'd be damned if someone would hire me because they felt sorry for me. I would have rather collected unemployment checks (which I did) than accepted a charity job. I ended back up in Alaska working on a fish boat - my employment pre-Army. So there.

I don't see an illegal alien getting any lavish social benefits. That's a bunch of hooey.

your right about them having all of those things
but try getting them and see what happens.

my husband and i were just up to the v.a hospital so he could get checked
and when he went in to see the doc she said oh i see your back
you come up once a year and my husband said no i don,t its been 2 and 1/2 years and she stood there telling him he was wrong until she looked it up on the computer.

also they keep bring up my husbands age saying he too young for this to be happening.
even tho they are the ones that told him what was going on with him.

and then when he asked her who to see about finding someone to talk to she acted like he was only doing this to get more money and the way she acted was like how dare you.
she told him this will have nothing to do with your claim and my husband told
    her.
i know this i just need someone to talk to.

they did the same to my dad and he was in veitnam and could not see very well and boy did they put him though the poop-poo.

they do have great things but i also know that most of them you can,t get unless your 100% disabled.

they almost make you feel like your asking for a hand out.

also they gave my husband pain killers and he does,nt like to take them so it took him over a year to finsh them when he went back in
and asked if they could give him a refill they told him no but my borther who is a recoving additic has no promble getting them from v.a.

Please forgive me upfront if I insult You or Your views because that was not my intention, I`m just trying to express my views on the matter. Since most of the posters are americans I migth even get slapped once or twice for posting this but I`m ok with it.

To keep you free from what or who? Communism? Terrorists?
Communism is long gone and I`m mentioning it only because Vietnam war was brought forwards as well and from what I know that was marketed reason why US went there. There and almost half the world since WWII.

9/11 was tragic yes, with all those lives lost. People dying every day in some country which they didnt knew existed before they went there is also tragic.
But why did you went there in the first place? Was terrorism the cause, I dont think so, they kill some high ranking terrorist once in a while but its a fact, not a speculation, that you cant beat terrorists that way, in direct military confrontation. Terrorism is in every aspect of military confrontation similar to guerilla type warfare. Remember Vietnam, there simply isnt a way to beat guerillas with traditional military type combat. Hitler had also learned this the hard way. French learned this the hard way too. Russians too. There are examples of this all around the globe, on smaller and larger scale.
In Vietnam, what US intervention did was totally opposite of what was proclaimed goal of the campaign. Communists gained much of their support not because they were so enlightened but because US soldiers were not welcomed. Just put yourself in the same situation, in some hypothetical scenario where US gets invaded by some country. With whom would you side with? American guerilla or foreign country? In Vietnam guerillas were communists.
Only thing coming out of these wars today is that there will be even more terrorists aiming their guns against US citizens. Why isnt my country targeted by terrorists? We have Islam fundamentalism on really strong rise in neighbouring country with which we still have disputes from recent war. Those are not Iraq or Afganistan sponsored Islamic centers, they are sponsored by the same guys that attacked you in the first place, Saudi Arabia. They dont pose a threat to us, we let them be and they let us be. We even built Islamic center in Croatia. Was that bad, no. Never. True muslims, even most orthodox ones, will never do half the things propaganda tells you they do. And I know this first hand. As it is in real life, everything can be seen from more than one angle. Do Christians kill or rape their children just because some lunatic killed or raped his child, NO. Same applies to muslims, just because some deluded lunatic bombed embassy doesnt make entire country or religious group guilty. If that was the case americans would be guilty of far more crimes than muslim countries combined. Or any of the old colonial powers, but they own the media and you get what. Hundreds of thousands young perspective people dying for nothing.

In my opinion and not my opinion only, US and other soldiers are dying for no ideology or political system. Theyre dying for someones profit, and this makes it even more depressive than it normally should be when people die in war. I would not EVER stand in some airport and throw "junk" and judge the soldiers coming back from some war. It was never their fault and I admire someones willingness to die for its country and fight for it but sadly they are dying because some people saw profit opportunity in war, which is by the way biggest and most steady profit generator known today. I want to say one more thing, I see myself as nationalist socialist but this does not mean I am of lesser intellect by default. I like my country and respect other countries, therefore I am nationalist. Do I think that profit based economy is autodestructive, in the long term, yes I do so I am socialist and please search for difference between communism and socialism before you post any comments about it, specially about private ownership part (been there done that before).

Most likely my visa for US will be denied, if I ever request one, after this post but who cares, between going somewhere which includes getting fingered at the airport and staying home or europe, I choose the latter. Oh, and I smoke so intercontinental flights are not on my must do list too.

    Peace.

I did get them. I received counseling for re-integration into civilian life. The VA paid me $500 a month to complete my undergraduate studies as well. I qualify for a few other benefits which I never took them up on (partial disability for a leg injury for one). Hell, my kids in the States qualify for grants that have to do with me being a vet, so I can't complain.

Everyone knows VA hospitals suck - mainly because too many retirees with attitudes work there :p

    JK

To add a couple of other comments - when I was deployed into harms way (First Gulf war, Central America), never did I think - nor my guys think that we were defending American freedom. We were going over there to kick some ass. Some of the officers threw political ideologies at us, but most of us didn't care - we we there to accomplish the mission: defeat the enemy.

you were in the same time my husband was.

let me ask you one thing when you got out was it due to the fact that your duty was over or was it due to the fact that you got hurt?

i,m just asking caz that does seem to make a diffance about how easy it is to get these benifits.

we were told no v.a loan uless your 100% no helping your kids with school unless 100% no medical for your family unless 100% and it has to be service connect as my husband is to get any of these when you get 100% and we looked into getting our house redone for my husbands legs and was told no unless we had 100%.

did you get all of this right after you got out caz my husband did not get anything until about 3 years ago when he try before was told he did not have a claime. so thing might have changed since you got all of these things.
my stepdad was in for 40+ years from the old school and we,ve told him alot has changed since he was in really they change everyday. i go to the v.a site at least once a week and things seems to change every week.

and i felt the same way about our guys fighting somewhere eles their not over there fighting for us but had my butt jump too many times and was told if we don,t stop them now they will hit us later.

it would be nice if we could just all get along. just dreamin lol:D

    Kauphy,
Most VA hospitals have a VA rep who will help you with some of the red tape, if not, go to your nearest VFW post and have your husband talk to the post commander, they know all the different routes available.

They go by a rating at VA, if someone has a purple heart they dont pay for Doctors visits and hospital stays. My dad lost most of his hearing during WW2 and gets 30% for that plus 20% for burns, we would have never known about this had we not went to see the VA rep on campus, he has been getting the extra income for the past few years, he is now 84 and my mom gets extra for taking care of him, it was alot of paperwork but well worth it, just wish we would have known about it many many years ago.

There is a member here on the forum, who works or had worked for the VA, footdr, you may want to pm her and let her know about this, she may have some valuable info that could help your husband.
