After posting in here for two odd years on Trump etc...I slept through and missed it  ...Now I'm awake I watched about 3 mins, and decided for my sanity to turn it off :p

Far easier to read the views on twitter, overall the verdict I deduce is the moderator was not impartial, [as expected wallace hates trump] and the debate was a scrappy draw.

Joe did better than expected I feel [cognitively] but on the bits I saw he kept looking down as if he was reading notes?

Why dont they shut off the mic of the person not speaking?
A little bit very annoying when Trump cant keep his cookiehole closed while Biden is talking.

That was Trump's whole tactic for this debate: disrupt and try to frustrate Biden. Which worked because Biden called him a clown and told him to shut up throughout the "debate".

The most disturbing part is at the end when Trump doesn't want to denounce white supremacy and tells far right militia Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by".

And this was disgusting:
Biden: "My son was in Iraq. He spent a year there ... He was not a loser. He was a patriot. And the people left behind there were heroes."
Trump: Really? Are you talking about Hunter?
Biden: "I'm talking about my son Beau Biden.
Trump: "I don't know Beau. I know Hunter."

Nobody should be able to defend Trump after this.

Chris Wallace had a hard time moderating Trump, they were at some points debating eachother instead of Trump versus Biden... It's not a fact of Wallace hating Trump but Trump just wanting to be the schoolyard bully always having the last word and not accepting anyone else's opinion. It took Wallace about 75 minutes to remind Trump about the rules which he agreed to before the debate so it's kinda cheap to say Wallace wasn't impartial throughout.

Biden wrote down some notes, which is allowed, but I don't think the looking down was reading notes all the time.

Wallace ask Biden “would you pack the court?”
Biden “I want all of you to go out and vote”.
Trump, “answer question”.
Joe "I’m not going to answer”
Trump, “make him answer”
Chris “no, no. I have another question”.
Another example Chris Wallace is running interference for Biden

Seems like it’s the Chris Wallace/Biden vs. Trump debate...Chris kept feeding the numbers and facts to Biden that he can’t remember!

Biden, “the green new deal will pay for itself”
Chris Wallace, “do you support the green new deal?”
Biden, “No!”

Wallace did seem to be tickling joes butthole, intervening or completely ending 1 or 3 good points Don mentioned, so Biden didn't have to answer.
Other than that, apparantly joe was lying about everything, and so was Don . hahaha

As if Trump was replying to questions (directly)

It wasn't a debate, it was a circus. Wolf Blitzer said afterwards: "this might've been the only time these two have met before the election". And that wouldn't surprise me to be honest.

Jonathan V. Last: "Who won? I don’t know. Honestly: I cannot understand how anyone with an IQ over 80 could have watched this disgrace and not come away understanding that the president of the United States is a sociopath. [...] I can, however, tell you with complete certainty who lost the debate: America.."

William Kristol: "Tuesday’s debate in Cleveland was a disgrace because of the behavior of one man, Donald Trump. The interrupting and the bullying, the absence of both decency and dignity—those were Donald Trump’s distinctive contributions to the evening, and they gave the affair the rare and sickening character of a national humiliation."

Jake Tapper: "That was a hot mess, inside a dumpster fire, inside a train wreck. [Trump] was his own tweets come to life. We’ll talk about who won the debate, who lost the debate … One thing for sure, the American people lost.”

I think the most pertinent comment in the entire debate was from Biden: "Under this president, we've become weaker, sicker, poorer, more divided and more violent."

Yup.
Joe shouldnt have called him a clown
After all it's the ringleader gets everyone all stirred up at the circus :D

Since posting earlier I've watched the sky news highlights [about 7 mins] Trump was certainly being bombastic and talking over/interrupting Joe in the clips, might have shot himself in the foot with some undecided voters.

But if Trump wins again it won't have been because of this debate, it'll likely be due to a fear of the democrats, same as in the uk with fear of labour.

I think pence and kamala debate each other on the 7th oct, that could be more interesting, with greater detail on policy.

The whole thing was an utter shambles and less to do with actual debate than it did poo-flinging which is a real shame it wasnt about addressing the audience and discussing platforms on what makes them the best candidate.

Sure, one would hope for 'good tv' - clever retorts, smart responses.

But really, most people I know expected it to be a popcorn-viewing show ...and it was :(

Yes, next Tuesday we'll have the VP debate and as you say it could be more interesting and, who knows, more important for some undecided voters. Even tho Pence is very conservative atleast he can have a serene debate and no doubt Harris can debate being a former attorney

Apart from the interruptions, mudslinging, and shouting (from all sides), Trump telling the white supremacist group Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by" is truly shocking and unprecedented in the recent history of the USA. There are some extreme right-wing politicians in Europe, but I've never heard a PM or president of one of our civilized countries addressing these kinds of groups in such a shameful way.

Trump isnt a politician, he isnt a diplomat, he is nothing morw than a bullying old man and he showed that again last night.
He is trying every stunt that he can to keep his hands on power and the reason for that was made clear by the NY Times story on his finances - he has a couple of years to find 300 million dollars or hes going to be bankrupted for the umpteenth time, and if he is still president its less likely to happen.
From what I saw Joe Biden did remarkably well to keep his head and he showed Trump up for the buffoon he is.

FWIW I'm not gushing over Biden; its more a pick of least likely to burn the country down....much rather there were more contenders and these simply werent drawn along party lines but rather who's fit to run a leading, first world country.

But geez, if you plan on representing the people, youd think...people skills are a bit of a must-have; Trump exudes too much 'me-centric' and 'those that are like me'
