Frankly, the NK thread is good; this gumbo pot kinda keeps keeps these discussions and debates contained, people banter, express, move along, become friendly again


I know people seem to think noone gets to express their views but I dont really feel thtats the case; again, I'll use mack as an example - I very rarely agree with his posts
doesnt mean i dont enjoy engaging with him and reading them, same as ladykawkes, theyre aways well thought out and written

A fair enough point. Problem is, I detest Trump and his values so much, I don't understand why people support him. So even though I have always tried not to revert to ad-hominem attacks - not sure I have always succeeded - I tend to skip past most of those posts in case my inner Evil Ladyhawke manages to find a way past my defences.

The article is question was addressing a specific phenomenon engineered by the Left, whereby no criticism of 'allowed views and values', however respectful or intelligent, should be permitted.


I agree wholeheartedly with the above, but again, that is not what this particular article is about.

"There's a cruel streak in activism that says, 'If you disagree with me…you have no right to speak.'" (Robby Soave - Reasondotcom). And this, I believe, was the point of the article.

It was not defending racist behaviour, or hate speech, or all the Karens' despicable behaviour.


I repeat, it is an article addressing a specific phenomenon engineered by the Left, not a potential Pulitizer prize winning article that's purpose is to address extremist issues on both sides of the coin.

There were examples given - Jodie Cromer, Conor Daly, and the Harpers Magazine article signed by JKR and others. But how many was the author meant to give without turning the article into an unreadable laundry list? Alastair Stewart? Or Rick Friday? Or even Ghandi?

I'm beginning to think that many of you are projecting your own thoughts and feelings onto the article, and drawing conclusions that were neither stated or implied.

I do agree with you that the "Cancel" culture, or whatever people call it, has gone completely overboard instead of sticking to a reasoned approach and debate.

I do not agree to assign the blame entirely to one side. For one, looking at history, did the "other side" not go overboard for centuries, maybe even millennia?

I am not part of any of the sides, neither liberal nor conservative. My life got me through communist, democratic, socialist and monarchist countries, hence, I think I've seen and lived through all forms and came out just fine.

Been playing it the odd time at a UK site - it's brutal, moreso than than the first one IMO. Think i'd about 50 spins with constant re-triggers and it paid something like 10x

Oh dear...I appear to have lowered this thread to the lowest common denominator possible with my latest ad eminem.

So time to take a break for a while.

TBH, I am worn out with Trump and his shenanigans, which in turn have generated the BLM movement, the Cancel Culture movement, etc. Well-intentioned movements perhaps, but the repercussions - both positive and adverse - are going to be felt for decades.

Instead, I am going to focus on watching paint dry for the foreseeable future. Much, much more fulfilling.

Although perhaps not for the neighbours.
