I genuinely thought you had a lot of time for CNN, MSNBC, ABC etc..
I think the media create/determine what is the 'biggest' story of the day according to their underlying agenda [not withstanding natural disasters and sudden events like a terror attack, obviously these stories will tend to take precedence when they occur]
Obviously there are a lot of hours to fill so every 'issue' is going to get some coverage, including wage stagnation, crime problems and homelessness etc... but things like the russia collusion theory and the stormy daniels affair story would get more coverage when really they affect the average person's day to day life less. [edited to remove border wall disputes ]
Some of it might be a innocent diversion/entertainment strategy to take people's minds off long term problems the govt seem unable or unwilling to solve, whereas people seem interested and enlivened by discussing donald.
I don't know if you would count this as better research but it seems Barack Obama viewed Nafta in a negative light too.
