There are estimated 11-20 million illegals living in the US now but no one knows the exact number.

The US already lets in 1.2 million legal immigrants per year, the left never mentions that.

And the right never mentions that the number of illegal immigrants is declining since 2010. At its lowest level in 2016.

Where did I say I respect the media "so much"? The points you brought up have been discussed ad absurdum in the media.

The media goes after the biggest story of the day because the attention span of viewers/readers/listeners has shortened dramatically in the last two decades.

FYI, the democrats built more barriers than then republicans. Please research better.

I think the media create/determine what is the 'biggest' story of the day according to their underlying agenda [not withstanding natural disasters and sudden events like a terror attack, obviously these stories will tend to take precedence when they occur]

Obviously there are a lot of hours to fill so every 'issue' is going to get some coverage, including wage stagnation, crime problems and homelessness etc... but things like the russia collusion theory and the stormy daniels affair story would get more coverage when really they affect the average person's day to day life less. [edited to remove border wall disputes ]

Some of it might be a innocent diversion/entertainment strategy to take people's minds off long term problems the govt seem unable or unwilling to solve, whereas people seem interested and enlivened by discussing donald.

I don't know if you would count this as better research but it seems Barack Obama viewed Nafta in a negative light too.

Obama was not happy with parts of NAFTA. His administration was already in negotiations with Canada and Mexico when Mr. T came in. It was practically done already but Mr. T then asked for totally unreasonable stuff and the negotiations went one for another year or thereabouts. Mr. T got then 0.25% more in agricultural products US farmers can export tariff-free to Canada and a few more percent on the part of a car that has to be produced in the US and/or at certain wage levels as pretty much the only improvements over Obama's version. As I said in a previous post, that is what you as a negotiator keep as reserves to give to the other side so they can save face.

But yeah, Mr. T was out to show the world and his fans what a great dealmaker he is. Read the draft from just before Obama left and the one Mr. T signed. You'll be having the laugh of your life. Mr. T is selling it now for the "best deal ever" which is not true just like "best economy ever", "biggest tax cut ever" etc etc.

well if I was Mexico I'd just ignore Trump and let him put his tariffs. Maybe even let more migrants through easier...just creates more problems for Trump and republicans don't seem to like those tariffs.

Yes, let Mr. T put them on because American companies will suffer just as bad because production parts often cross the MX-US-CA borders multiple times until they end up in a finished product.

I agree with this, I've always said the problem should be solved at source, that is the true 'left' position, but can everyone living in the world have a 'western' style and standard of living?

I've recently been watching a few videos about John Perkins author of 'confessions of an economic hitman', very interesting. Apparently the poor south sends more money to the rich north, because of the debt repayments etc..plus they end up having to sell their raw materials/assets cheaply

They could have had the same standard if the Western world would not have suppressed them for centuries as colonies or plundered their wealth relentlessly.

I was talking now and in the future whereas that seems to imply the chance to have the same standard has now passed due to the plundering?

Not sure if these statistics are 100% accurate but the US is 5% of the worlds population and yet uses 25% of the worlds resources, so on that basis the lifestyle or model is not replicable throughout the world. Though I'm not sure the statistic is that the consumers are consuming the resources alone or it includes all the corporate and government activities as well.[exports and military being two big areas]

We're all going to have to live a more sustainable lifestyle if the world population continues to grow, and it could be argued as more natural resources [gas, coal in power stations etc] are required to sustain life in the 'north' through the winters etc..increasing the population of the north through immigration from the hotter regions of the planet is going to use up the natural resources at a higher rate. E.g for every million the us's population rises the resource consumption goes up quicker [subject to the basic standard of living not declining] so it's not atm a green policy.

The irony is there used to be a broader base of opinion until the corporate media bought out the smaller outlets. I think 6 companies own most of the tv channels in the US, where publishing [newspapers and books] fits in I'm not sure, but the range of opinion is shrinking which damages democracy and freedom of expression. So when something like the Iraq war is being proposed, 90% of the media are in favour, which is going to influence the public, and only afterwards is the folly realised by the majority of the public but by then the media has moved on and is promoting the next war [NB I think the same 90%, minus fox, wanted hillary as president, make of that what you will]

An hour before the infrastructure meeting Pelosi accused the president of a cover up.
That was all by design because she really does not want to do an ($2 trillion btw) infrastructure bill because she does not want to give Trump a win (because election time is on the horizon).

Even if the Donald did not foolishly take the bait, she and Shummer would have found another way to weasel out of getting an infrastructure bill done.

In the mean time 70% of the infrastructure is failing. It would have meant some decent paying construction jobs, safe bridges and roadways.
