Hi All,

We have a new function in the forum "Helpful Posts" Here you will see in most posts a little thumbs up sign which indicates you can give a vote for that post being "helpful." This is separate from the "Thanks" function which people use to either "high-five" one another or show some sort of an agreement with the post. This is a bit different since the "helpful post" function is anonymous - and it's tabulated here:

Link Outdated / Removed

At the end of each month, we will select the top helpful posts, and offer some sort of an award. Before I commit myself to this, I want to make sure it's functioning properly and not abused by any forum riff-raff :p

At the moment, it's open in most of the active forums where helpful posts can be found. Like the "Thanks" button, you need 10 posts or more to use this. You won't see the button on your own posts because you can't give kudos to yourself. You can see how you rank in your user profile. I may be adding this to your profile in your posts to make that a bit more convenient.

Anyway, I just want to give you a chance to show appreciation to your fellow members, and to receive this recognition as well.

I also wanted to add that - like the "Thanks" button, you get 5 rep points for each time someone rates your post as being helpful. You also get a notification as well. :D

This is very cool. There are many members that are soooo helpful. *cough Jasminebed cough* ;) especially with me, I ask a lot of questions

I also like to help out newbies, show them the way to contact a rep. (that's as helpful as I get probably, haha)

They do this at online stores where people leave a comment on how the product was they bought. It is helpful when your not sure if you want to buy a particular item. Though I have read many of them are fake (they get paid to write "good" reviews).

Anyhow, I think there will be more thougtful answers in the coming days.

I'm sure it's a great new way to tell people they are doing something nice, but I doubt I will use it much.

I'm already noticing my behaviour when reading a post. "Is this a poster I will tell is helpful or a poster I just want to tell he made a good post?" "
In a way all posts that I say thank you for is a post a appreciate one way or another.
It was helpful, it made me laugh or was special in some other way. To me it's no difference.
Only me that's different ;)
