NEVER A TRUER WORD

US legislative hypocrisy encapsulated in a comment

Online poker information website operator Jay Lakin effectively summed up the hypocrisy of online horse race and state lottery betting legislative carve outs this week in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Commenting on the exclusions from the UIGEA and other federal legislation, Lakin said that he wanted the Internet gambling ban repealed as hypocritical because it included exemptions for horse racing, state lotteries and fantasy sports but not poker.

"That's like telling me I can go into a liquor store and buy vodka, but no gin," Lakin said. "I'm just disgusted by it."

Yay, Jay

I'm glad someone who has some common sense has stood up to the plate. This is the problem with this country right now, too much policing and not enough keeping the eye on the ball. I'll say it again. It is prohibition. And we all know how that worked. I love how they want the banks to regulate and yet no one has any clear or concise way for them to do it. Don't they know that every time a new payment method goes down, another one crops up. How do you police "whack a mole." I resent having to pay some third party so that I can play in a casino when every other country can just do it for free and with MUCH LESS HASSLE. I am still waiting on a payment for over five weeks, and it just ain't fun anymore. I am going to party in the streets if this STUPID bill ever gets overturned. Someone in another post had an excellent idea about getting the press to pay more attention to this bill and explain it clearly and succinctly. I think most people(especially if they have no interest in gambling online), don't have a clue what this bill actually means. Any rational, intelligent person, even if they are not a gambler, I believe would see the absurdity of it all. JMHO

And we all know how that worked.

But it doesn't even have to be past tense. Today we have the War on Drugs, which quite possibly could be even worse than liquor prohibition in terms of violence and generating otherwise non-existent crime.

I'm not saying that I would go up to Al Capone's face, spit on his shoes and say something less than flattering about his mother. But I would give myself better odds of coming out of 1925 Cicero alive after casually driving through than I would for some of the neighborhoods controlled by the FARC, the Bloods, the Crips, the Mara Salvatrucha, Nuevo Laredo or any other of the vicious gangs, cartels and smuggler run towns which that particular war on a concept has produced.

Well said MJacson

This is so true, especially in the case of pot.

"When freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will be free."
