Thanks dunover, I appreciate it. Yeah it sucks, and I'm sorry for your loss, came out of nowhere as well. Making the video has actually been kind of cathartic as it's let me get it all out and ordered and start to process. I sent a nearly complete 'review copy' to family members as an Unlisted video for them to check and see if they were OK with it going public or not, and they were. So when I finished it off I uploaded the complete version that's online now.

We haven't got a date for the funeral yet, there's going to be an inquest and we literally just got the interim death certificate yesterday, so my brother's going to see the funeral director today to see if we can get a date.

The video isn't all doom and gloom, it has fruit machines in it and stuff! (It took a while for my dad to actually die and there was a lot of filling time over in the UK.)

And look what you get if you play random games in the pub on dogshit percentages like 84%! So you can't be trusted online at 96%, but you can get pissed at the pub and autoplay to your heart's content on mid-80s RTPs.

January 2022 my older brother died after short brutal battle with cancer then a month later my Dad gave up on life not being able to cope with the loss of his eldest son. A truly wretched time. Thanks pinnit, and I'm sorry to hear of your loss too.

This is the thing of course, my loss, and my grief, are not even remotely unique, endless multitudes of people have gone through this before me, and will continue to do so into the future. As the old saying goes, 'grief is the price we pay for love'.

All the politics stuff seems rather small and incidental at the moment, it sort of came up when I was talking with my dad in hospital, because we have very different political views (he'd certainly be on the opposite side of the argument to me in the Brexit thread!), but it was in the context of him saying how great it was that in our family we could hold these different views but all still get along and it never led to any bad blood or nasty fallings out.

I've maintained that all along here at CM, I'll have a ding-dong with folks in the politics threads (but never, ever, make it personal or nasty, and I never have), but back in the online slots chat or whatever else, no bad feelings are carried over and no grudges held.

And we can see that here in this thread now, with personalities that have clashed over some stuff elsewhere on the forums, but at a time of basic human sadness, empathise with each other and wish each other the best.

I was already thinking about getting over for the Casinomeister Meet next year, and I am definitely resolved to attending now.

I am sorry to hear of your loss also mina, the grief is inevitable if we allow ourselves to love and be loved, but it still hurts and stings like an open wound when the worst happens.

On balance, I'll take this pain, hurt, and grief, for the love and caring my dad showed to me throughout his entire life - it's a price worth paying.

I hope you can move on to more happy times in your own life, where memories of our loved ones become cherished, and the rawness of loss can begin to fade.

I remain optimistic, my dad was an optimist, always. and he'd want us all in the family to carry on without him, because he built us up to be able to do so.

Being there in his final moments with the family by his side would have provided great comfort for him on his final journey.

I'm sorry that the police added to your suffering. I agree the window would have been the better option. I hope the financial side of this gets resolved for you.

It runs on a bit at 2h40m, and even that was with quite a lot of stuff being left on the cutting room floor, but it is telling the story of a very manic period of time, so I just let the edit naturally run to what felt right, at the end of the day people can take or leave it as they see fit

Thanks for watching, I know it's not exactly a 'fun' watch but I thought perhaps it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if there was an honest account out there of sadness, grief, trauma and loss.

I'm in a better headspace now, even though the funeral is still to come. A good friend came round to our house today with a sympathy card, and we spent a decently long time chatting, he lost his dad a few years ago in 'similar but different' circumstances (if that makes sense!), brain tumour, I think it's helpful to be able to talk these things through with others. Loss and grief are universal human emotions, and it needs to be OK to talk about them - which is ultimately why I made and released the video.

I'm still somewhat cross with the police, I have to say, because that's left us with another big pile of shit to clear up.

In a strange sort of way they're a tribute to my dad, because I'd be dead ten times over without him having been there for me, and never, ever giving up.

My dad's funeral was yesterday (I was one of the pallbearers, spoiler alert, coffins are fucking heavy), I'm doing a video for that because it helps my brain work shit out and it's got machines and stuff in there too. If the edit goes OK that should be online Sunday.
