Microgaming - What a mess!!!!

Further analysis

I have made a preliminary analysis at UK Casino Club. The rebuilt Mupinfo file is considerably changed from that supplied that was giving the looping.

The stats from Norton File Compare:-

Comparing Old with rebuilt file,

Lines Added = 262
Lines Moved = 2094
Lines Deleted = 7707

Clearly, the deleted lines (7707) are not necessary, and the added lines probably came through the normal update process. Moving lines in this type of info file should not cause problems unless the software expects them in a certain order. The fact that the files are NOT the same goes some way to confirming that this is where the error lies.

I have XP and found the file right where you said it would be for All Slots and Ruby Fortune and it worked to delete it after install. A friend of mine has Win98 and the fix worked for her. So I don't think it's an OS hiding the file thing.

I have my settings on show all files, but that isn't one I would have thought would be hidden anyway.

Kind of shaking my head that these techs couldn't find a fix and now can't find the file. Good grief.

I have passed this to the Techs at 32red who could not find the file. They may be looking in the wrong place!
This whole thing will be landing on MGS' doormat shortly, as both BelleRock and 32Red will be taking this up.
I have been personally thanked by BelleRock, and offered a little something for my efforts.
As to the "millions of Dollars" one poster suggested MGS owe me for this - well, more chance of 2 consecutive Pat Royals in my next session of J or Better, followed by winning the Jackpot on all three progressives in the SlotJunkies tournament:D

That was nice of Bellerock to give you a bonus, you deserve it. 32Red should come through with the same offer. You helped a lot of people with this simple fix and also helped the casino keep depositting customers.

The fix doesn't work for me :(

It seems to be a problem with the mupp.dll file for me, if I copy over an old version of it (3.3.7.108) the casinos start and go through the upgrade motion, but then when its done and upgraded to the latest verion (3.3.10.168) it keeps shutting itself down when you go to start it. Deleting the mupinfo file does nothing on my system :(

Any other ideas?

Found this URL, seems to be what's needed to completely remove the casino in question. Just replace the given casino name on the site with the one you're having problems with, and try the reinstall again...Might work.

BE CAREFUL!!!

DO NOT DELETE THE WHOLE MICROGAMING KEY AS INSTRUCTED OR YOU WILL MESS UP ALL MG CASINOS ON YOUR COMPUTER! :) Just delete the casinoname key as instructed.

Also, it gives a long list of files to delete. I think by simply deleting the casino's directory you should be fine. I don't think MG stores the casino files anywhere else.

Warning: There is one file called mup.sys beneath the windows directory. This is NOT microgaming.

This is an interesting one:confused:

I have Mupp.dll 3.3.7.108 on the now working loopers. All I can think to try, although I have no idea if this will work, is to set your Mupp.dll to "read only", which will prevent it from being replaced with the new one. You may then have a casino that you can log into, but I expect it will continually update in the background. I had a Riverbelle that kept shutting down during the Flash intro. Deleting Mupinfo did not work the either. With thousands of files in the typical MG casino, tracking it down can take a while. MGS should be doing this, they wrote the bloody thing, have the source code, and all the manuals.
I still have problems with many MG casinos, mainly errors in the update process. I suspect the entire upgrade suite is crap, and may be at the root of all the MG problems. I have tried looking for a way to upgrade the casino, then disable the Mup process till the next new game release - no luck as yet.

Chap who wrote this spyware scanner must have done his B****x in a casino!

Quite a vitriolic attack of online casinos (OK justified in a few cases). I have not heard of Microgaming GAMES being Adware supported. I think it is more the case of the "enthusiastic" download helpers employed by some operators when you idly browse their websites.
Rather than go through deregistering each dll file, a good registry cleaner should find them. The casino uninstaller will do this anyway. What it deliberately leaves behind are the values in the two registry keys, so that your PC will remember your account number when you next download and install the casino. Remember this if you play at work!!!!!

Clearly, they want you to buy their spyware remover!

The casino uninstaller will not delete the registry keys nor unregister the dll's.

Right I've tried this and it works for Ladbrokes and Lucky Nugget, but 32 Red gets stuck in a loop whereby it keeps flashing up the loading screen then re-starting, it does this until I take off the read only attributes and then its back to square one. Thanks anyway as it seems to have cured some of them. Will have to wait for my reply back off 32Red CS :)

Progress Report.

I have received a file containing a utility to repair MGS casinos through 32red. It seems to be the file that Fortune Lounge have buried in their help pages. Ning from 32Red tells me it is general and is supposed to work in ANY MGS casino. The instructions on the Fortune Lounge site miss out one important step - namely "repair.exe" must be moved to the program folder of the casino that needs repairing and then it should be run.

I am now evaluating this file, and if it does repair a "looper" without the need to delete the Mupinfo file then I expect this file to be made more widely available. I will also find out if the Fortune Lounge one is the same, as if it is there is somewhere we can all get it from.

I will also see if it improves other casinos that work, but with a few problems with loading some games.

repair.exe

The MG Casino Repair tool does indeed repair the infinitely looping casino. It seems to perform an offline repair and update, along with a rebuilding of the Mupinfo file. It saves a very comprehensive log file in WORD format. It takes a while to run, but is faster than getting the casino to update while logged in, even if not playing.
It has to be placed in the program folder containing the casino application to work. It will automatically detect which MG casino you have installed and will perform the repair (you have time for a cuppa at this stage!). There is no definitive end of task, it just stops running but leaves the application window & log open. One way to tell though is the creation of the log file in WORD format, which is the final action it performs. A temporary file called "repair" is also created. I suspect these can be left behind unless you need the space, although there is no real use in keeping them once you are happy with the repaired casino.
I will now have to see if it can improve casinos with other problems. All Slots seems to continually update in the background, and launches games from the upgrade server instead of the local folder.

I have attached the ZIP file containing this tool to this post. It has come from Ning at 32Red by E-mail attachment, and is what it says it is!

Instructions:-

Unzip to any folder, you should have "repair.exe".
Copy "repair.exe" to the program folder of the casino, e.g

C:\program files\loopycasino\

Go to the folder and run the tool by clicking on it. It should show the "red cross" icon. A small window will pop up to ask if you want to run the tool. Click Yes if so.

A larger window with log and progress bar will launch, with Microgaming casino repair tool as title. Time to put the kettle on:)
It will connect to the upgrade server and repair the casino files, logging each action as it does so. It also notes a summary, but this is a few pages down from the top of the log file rather than at the end.
On completion, it simply stops, but saves a log file in WORD format. You need to then close the repair tool window.
The casino is then repaired (with luck!)

The only other place this tool is currently available is Fortune Lounge, not too obvious and lacking in detailed instructions. I have suggested that 32Red host this on their site with decent instructions and be honest about it working for any MG casino rather than just their own.
I can't host it on vinylweatherman.net as B-ONE do not allow the hosting of files intended for download by visitors as it can clog up the service. Fortunately, it comes under the 100K limit for placing with this post. Bryan could perhaps move it to somewhere much more obvious on this website.

I have just double checked the functionality of the attachment.

Right Click to save target as and Left click should open the usual download to desktop security prompt window (Tested in 98SE).

MGS Fix

Microgaming have now issued a formal fix for the looping problem to 32Red. Players should uninstall 32Red, download it again from the 32Red website and reinstall. Their support staff will no longer be distributing the repair tool. I have asked whether MGS have issued this for all casinos but 32Red do not know either way. If any player still has a problem specifically with 32Red after following this procedure they should post here (for information) and contact 32Red support.

I have had only one instance of this repair tool failing, and that was at Riverbelle casino where it aborted with a "page fault", and could not proceed beyond a certain point. BelleRock have their own fix though - my test was on an earlier Riverbelle from the BelleRock CD.

I now have, for the first time, a PERFECT MGS Casino (Roxy Palace), after using the repair tool on it. It does NOT constantly download & churn my hard drive for 5, 10 or 15 mins when I log on - it has a couple of seconds, and then clears for full speed play - I wasted no time claiming for Thunderstruck in SlotJunkies - not much of a payout though, pretty dead with only 3 free spin rounds, 2 of which gave almost nothing.

Update

It has not escaped my attention that MGS are slipping this fix into all casinos "on the quiet" rather than waiting for the December new games upgrade.
I have found that another problem has been fixed too, the casino no longer continually churns my hard drive for 10 mins or so each time I log in.
As well as 32Red, I have noted the fix has spread to All Slots, and part of the Casino Action group. It is simply a matter of logging on as normal and when the fix arrives you will get the "double launch" usual for a new games upgrade; after which you should let the casino download all it wants to. Next logon should be to a fixed casino. It should not be necessary to use the repair tool, but I am sure that some applications may be sufficiently damaged as to prevent the automatic fix from taking hold. The repair tool is a better option in this case than downloading again, especially on dial up! I will retain a copy, and the copy I posted earlier in this thread is available till Bryan removes it!

Hmm 32 Red still doesn't work for me, after trying the repair tool, which just sat there for 30 minutes and did nothing, and re-installing from the website, it still just hangs on the loading screen then dissappears after a minute. The only way around it for me now it to copy that older mupp.dll file and make it read only :(

Fixed!

Well I've finalled fixed my problem of 32red instantly shutting down when I loaded it up. I tried all the things here - playing with DLLs, cleaning my machine, reinstalling, trying the repair tool, to no avail: turns out it was my virus checker.

I use NOD32, but it might effect other virus checkers too. By turning off IMON, the internet security monitor, the casino loads up fine now. I guess something in their new update raises red flags with my virus checker and blocks the internet traffic. Slots here I come!

Repair tool

Could you let 32Red know as they think this issue is pretty much fixed now. MG have introduced a fix which is progressively being set in all MG casinos which should be automatically picked up(watch for the tell tale double launch of an upgrade).
When 32Red first announced the fix though, they screwed up and placed a faulty module on their website. This has now been corrected, and I have tested it again to verify. The fix was for the looping issue, fixing the other issues was a by product.
The repair tool MUST be run from the directory containing the casino program files, and NOT from the desktop as it will indeed then just sit there and do nothing.
Support will no doubt tell you to first try reinstalling from the website, but if using the old file has given you a working casino you could leave it at that. It will automatically change the Mupinfo file at the next update, which is when the robustness of the MG fix will get it's first big test!

I am so confident that MG have finally resolved this that I have retained a copy of the repair tool & posted one earlier on this thread as a ZIP file:D

HI

I have never had any problem with any casino but I do not belong to 32Red so can't say what to do but Smokes if ya desperate I may be able to help.

I must explain i work in Techincal Support and do keep my machine cleaned as possible with things I know work.

As for adware, only things like AdAware do pick up Microgaming things but I have always deleted what it finds without any issue.

Tell me something, do any of you empty your temp folder in WinXP? if not do this for me Start>Run> type %temp% and see what is in there and if anything relates to Microgaming.

I'll help where I can.

Thanks

I have been having problems getting casinos to work when they release there new game packages.

Fix I have found in Win XP
first CTRL+ALT+DEL and goto the Processes tab

Look for Casino~1.exe (I think this is when you download the casino from the website not update) or Casino.exe or something similer but will start with casino and end with .exe (This is when you are getting the update with your old software)

There should also be a casino.new running which is what needs to load but the other program is stopping it.

So End Process on the casino.exe and the casino should finish loading up.

IMON works!!

Hi Woodchip

Thank you so much for this tip with NOD32, all microgaming casinos now working with IMON turned off:)

However I really hope that microgaming will be fixing their software as I don't want to continue keeping the IMON off.
