I think this deserves it's own thread now as the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot from Microgaming has passed £18.6 million (€20.8 million) this morning.

If the jackpot is won in GBP or EUR, the winner will go straight into the Guinness Book of Records as the largest jackpot payout on an online slot machine game. The current record is held by Jon Heywood from Crewe, England who won £13,213,838 (€17,879,645) in 2015.

The jackpot has been rising by circa £110,000 a day and is likely to go very soon. With pay day tomorrow and higher play, will this jackpot finally go?

Just to clarify first, for anybody that may not know, that if you win this you get exactly the amount shown but in your own currency. So you get £18.6 million if you play in £ and €18.6 million if you play in €. If it is not won in £ the rest of the money stay in the pot.

There was a period of a few months that the jackpot was won every 3-15 days! And now it is going over 20 mil soon!
A long time ago I read that MG controls approximately when it will pay. Asked @trancemonkey but he missed the question.
It makes sense to do it now, the tournament cancellation must have hurt a lot the download MG casinos IMHO.

i will be signing up to a reputable casino and playing 50 cent bets on my mobile....

i will have fulfilled the criteria for winning the mega moolah....

You also need to be sitting on the bog, only have 2 slices of bread left and 34p in your bank account.
Oh.... and 8 kids.
Dont forgot those or you can forget it

got a 10€ no deposit bonus and after playing a while got it to 180€ and realized that max cash out was 3x so I've started playing MM at 2.5€ bet ... went up to 1500€ and then down but did not get the wheel at all. not even at 5€ bet.....

Id like to hear Trance's thoughts on this too. It was won last year for about €4m and that was a big hullabaloo that it went that high before hitting. Could it be that it was reconfigured to build up higher, did companies pitch in to boost it or is it just RNG acting crazy?

Not answering on behalf of @trancemonkey, but I am able to confirm...

You're absolutely right on the first bit (regarding currency and payout). The second part (about Microgaming controlling payout) however is incorrect.

This isn't the RNG going crazy - this is the RNG doing what it's designed to do (hence slot paying-out at random intervals).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. However, its still very irregular behaviour from the slot as its never been close to getting this high, or differing this much compared to previous hits. This is very unlike other jackpot slots. If you design a jackpot to hit after someone flips heads 10 times in a row you can expect it to happen after 1024 attempts on average, and likely within the region of 100-5000, not 100k...

I'm not sure how you're classifying 'never been close', but it's been hit for >10m 4 times before & a look at the previous winners does show a wide spread of timescales between wins, and win values. (See

The payout is not 18.6 million for all currencies. If there is a significant difference in exchange rate, a significantly different amount is displayed. To make it more concrete, one unit of my currency worth about 1/275 USD. The jackpot amount displayed in my currency is about 200 times more than 18.6 million. Maybe someone from the Nordics can add another data point.

Exchange rates don't matter (hence there being no currency symbol alongside the jackpot counters. See Nicola / OP above)...

The payout is made in the currency you wager is made, not the currency of the country you play in. If you wager in USD, you will win the jackpot value in USD. If you wager in Hungarian Forint, you will win the jackpot in Hungarian Forint.

(You say there is a display difference - can you please add a screenshot to show this).

I am quite certain that the jackpot would need to be paid out as displayed. This is one of the two government regulated online casinos here. The jackpot is about 3,7 billion HUF. There is no way in the EU that a casino would pay out 18m EUR for a player in the EUR zone and 60k EUR (18m HUF) for a player in Hungary.

Edit: the minimum bet for the game is 50 HUF (about 0,17 EUR), not sure if that makes any difference.

Let's assume they have a 5% progressive - and they want it to pay an average of €5m. That value is 5% of €100m worth of play. So at 1 Euro play you would have a 1 in 100m chance of winning it on every spin. Of course, this chance would scale with your bet.

For clarity, i have no idea what the % of the RTP is on the Mega Moolah progressive... the above figures are just as an example.

So even if the average is €5m, it could definitely reach the levels it's at now.. in fact, it could quite conceivably go a lot higher. Statistically it probably won't, but theoretically it could.

So to get an average of €5m with 8.8% it would be roughly 1 in 56m at 1€ stake (if my maths is right... someone correct me if i'm wrong!)

Of course, that assumes that there is only one jackpot being funded - which there isn't on this game. So the amount going to the top prize will probably be more like 1.8%, which would make it around 1 in 277m at 1€ bet

There is also the jackpot seed to consider. I don't know if that's counted as part of the jackpot contribution or the base game return - but i'm guessing it's counted in the base game. At 1 million, it would be pretty significant to ignore.

I also wouldn't be surprised if a larger fraction of the jackpot contribution went to the main pot since it's their flagship jackpot but I could be wrong, just speculating.

Thanks.

As previously mentioned, the currency played is the currency paid, so no conversion is required. The jackpot being displayed in the game is what you would win.

According to today's exchange rate (from XE.com (

)) the jackpot you've shown equates to ~£10.2m GBP, so are there differences in what is offered in Hungary (perhaps because of local Regulation, or taxes)? Or there's an error in your pic.

In order to answer any doubts about the jackpot size and difference between what we're seeing and what is displayed in the pic you've posted, can you post a pic of the game itself? (Ideally the same as the one Nicola posted and started this thread with. (You've posted a screen-grab from a web-page, so it could be there's an error on that page, a static jackpot value has been entered, the jackpot feed is slow, or a made-up feed has been used)).

I stand corrected, but the jackpot will be paid in your currency of play. The reason for that is because you are only contributing to the JP in your currency, i.e. considerably less than a player playing in pounds or euros. If it is paid out in a lower denomination currency, the balance (difference) is returned to the pool. That's how I understand it to work.

Well the Euromillions is at a staggering 150 million Euros also, not gonna win that one either. :)
But with a JackPot so high I will give it a bash tonight after work, if not won by then. ;)

Had the wheel spins a couple of times but it was always mini's and 1 time I had the minor.
Have a small movie clip somewhere on my Youtube from 2016 where it stopped for a split of a second on the Mega and then just slowly moving to the next piece which of course was a Mini.
I nearly lost it,never been so close (graphically) to a mega jackpot. :D

That whopping 8.8% JP contribution explains why the base game is so shockingly bad, 88% is dreadful. Worse than Playtechs. Unless you are deliberately jackpot hunting on bigger stakes, there's absolutely no point in playing the game.

Agreed, I played it a bit last week and couldn't believe how bad the base game was, did win 2 jackpots though, one each of the 2 smaller ones, but they went back in in no time!

As I have a zero balance I could only do this from my mobile, for some reason the desktop version does not let me launch the game with zero funds. But the jackpots are the same. The mobile UI struggles a bit to display it, but you can see the first digit as a 3 slightly overlapping with the white box around it. The white rectangles are just my other tabs hidden due to privacy reasons, I did not want to bother creating another screenshot with those closed.

I am not sure what other currencies are being offered in the MG network. The amount in CAD is closer to the actual amount, but still differ. The amount is really close to the AUD and SGD rate. I think this may be aligned with the least strongest currency that still pays out 1:1 with GBP.

This is why for instance some Nordic players could provide further input. I mean the SEK value would be interesting. SEK is about 10:1 to EUR, so I doubt that the SEK payout in digits is the same as the GBP or EUR payout. We would need to compare it with another EU member not using EUR.

P.S. I am a member of CM since 2006. I know that it does not prove anything, but I am sure it would be a huge problem if those display amounts were incorrect. I have also won some lower tier jackpots on these games in HUF, I had played mega moolah in different currencies in the past (before the legislation changes in Hungary) so I know the typical jackpot amounts and levels in this game. The usual HUF values are roughly 2/3 of the usual EUR values on all levels.

The 8.80% will likely include the reseed
