Hi Babs, I really can't believe they are "still" putting you through this! You must be a wreck. I would seriously consider obtaining some legal advice, you have a case here, (from what I have read) and you could sue for, well, alot of different things, including pain and suffering. Here, where I live they have activists for animal rights and there are people that speak for you. If you can't afford a lawyer, then there has got to be some aid available. Here is my story about a kitten I had several years ago. I bought a little black kitten from the pet store up the street from my home. I brought her home and although she looked a little young to be away from her mother, I took the best of care of her and all of sudden she got real sick. She got to the point I had to bring her back (as they suggested) to be treated and cared for until she was well enough to come home again. Well, I would call several times a day and they would tell me how she was doing, I went up to see her several times, the last time I went to see her, she was doing better, they had given her pepto bismal, and this seemed to help. The poor little things rear end was so red it was bleeding. So, I thought, great, she will be better soon and she can come home. I called the next day and they said "Oh the owner took her home for the night to monitor her more closely" and "we will call you tommorrow" They didn't, so I called again, and got the same thing "the owner took her home" so, again, I went up there, and the girl said (in an explanation that suggested I was stupid and should of known) "when I said she took her home, I assumed you knew what that meant" I said "you mean you put her down" and she said, "we don't say it that way" I lost it!! I could not believe they did that with not even letting me know!! I was considering a lawsuit. I didn't pursue anything but I had this strong feeling that they kept her. I had a very strong feeling that the owner became attached and decided to keep her. Anyway, I will never know. But, I just wanted to say if I were you, I would act quickly. When kittens are born is the first test as some do not survive the birthing process especially when queens have their first litter. But thankfully that is not usually the case and mom and kittens do quite well, until the second big test When the mom decides it is time for the kittens to eat solid food it means the end of nursing and that means the immunity they have been getting from mother's milk will wear away. This usually begins somewhere around 6 to 8 weeks from birth. Most kittens do well in the process but some do not.

If the kitten starts losing weight that probably signals something is wrong. From there, if diarrhea develops (hence the red/swollen back side) then the kitten will probably not make it because they are just too young and their immune system just too fragile to survive. I have tried a diet of ground beef and rice for this problem, but never Pepto Bismol...........

Anyway, these are probably the reasons why most breeders will only sell kittens after they are on solid food for a few weeks and thriving.

Not trying to be harsh here as I have lost my share of kittens and know how painful that can be.

Not harsh at all..thank you for your explanation. My post was basically to state how those of us, who are not familiar with vet and pet store policies, can become easily confused and how hard it can be to trust. When we give our animals to the care of professionals, we are trusting. What happened to Babs shows how we can easily lose trust (in some scenarios) and therefore the "real caregivers" the ones that "really" care, can be hurt from others negligence. I give kudos to those that care for the animals of our world, it must take a strong person to go to work each day and see what most of us would be horrified by. These caregivers dont get enough recognition. Anyway, just my input. Thx

Hey Babs, Ok, I was a little confused, I remembered that there was a thread stating they put Kingston (King) down? And I remembered because alot of the members had given their condolences and I remembered that it was a heartbreaking story. I had missed a couple posts in this thread and now that I read them I understand, so at first they told you they put him down? Then two weeks later you called and they said he was still alive?! But they took out his teeth? So, they let you think, for two weeks, that your cat passed? They didn't send you a certificate or anything? I dont know much about the particulars of vet practices, but, is this not illegal? How the f can they do that? And now, they are not giving him back to you!? I dont understand how this is possible. Anyone in authority that gets ahold of this should be all over it! This is unethical and if it were me? I would be suing their asses off. These people sound worse then terrorists. They call theirselves animal caregivers? Can I contact them? I dont understand why anyone would be so cruel and I am bewildered. I am an animal rights activist and I'll tell you, damn straight if I wouldn't be down there picketing. I know you mentioned the news? My God, what is happening now? I for one have been personally affected by this story. Is there any news?

I am so very sorry for not responding to you. I was not in the attic for a time so I didnt see these posts. I still dont have King back. I just sent one last ditch effort email to them. Some of my emails to them were quite nasty (after they said no a couple of times) . This email I sent was different. It was a plea for consideration and an explanation of my passion and why I wasnt so nice. I just dropped my guard with him and hope he has a heart. This is a tough man to deal with. Ive seen some letter people wrote on my behalf and he was nasty in reply (I saw his replies too). There seems to be a lack of compassion in this man, I dont understand how he works with animals. I know his mom runs the place and I think he is the manager, but still. This is a privately owned shelter so I wont win in a law suit. The only thing I could sue for is money and I dont want money, I want king , there is no amount of money that could ever replace him and accepting money (in my eyes) means I put a price on him. I didnt buy him so that is also a problem

Rayna is still suffering. She only eats the gravy from her food (like king did when he was sick) and now she's starting to pee everywhere. Late at night she starts to cry and cuddles with me so close I cant breathe. This is a nightmare that has been lasting since Sept 18th. I feel so ashamed. My brother took the loss of his son better than Im taking losing King, I dont know whats in my head or heart but I cant get over this. Im usually a strong person and can move on with my life but this...I just wanna curl up and die

Patrina, People have tried talking with this man and have gotten nowhere. I offered him explanations, money, promises....nothing has worked. I made a mistake and Im afraid Im gonna have to pay for it for a very long time. If you wish to talk to him you can if you want but please promise to be on eggshells with him. Hi Babs, I actually emailed him and this is what I wrote below; (I knew to be nice and wanted to give him the opportunity to explain his side, but he never replied) I am distressed and sad to hear that you are going through tough times and also about King. I really cant understand how someone can be so heartless and mostly people are kind, so this is extraordinary. I will say a prayer for you. I hope things get better. I also have had it real bad lately, but I am keeping faith and believe things can only get better and whatever road I am led on will eventually open to something more positive. If I stay negative, then that will only follow me. I refuse to let any evil influence get the best of me. I wont go down without a fight. Our minds are our strongest asset, I know we forget that sometimes, I do all the time, but then I will come around and get back up. I know you wll too. Hello, I am sending you this email with regard to a story I have been following at a forum I am a member of. I am confused about alot of the information and I wanted to ask if you might be kind enough to enlighten? This is about "King" or "Kingston", a little while ago, a fellow member stated that King was euthanized. Then just recently, another thread requesting help with her situation. She has stated that King is still alive, but did have his teeth removed, and for two weeks she thought he was gone, until, her husband called your office and was informed that he was still alive but you are unwilling to give him back at this point. As an animal lover and activist, I was appalled by her story. I would like to hear your side, if willing? I dont want to point fingers until I hear both sides of this very distressing situation. If you are not allowed to divulge the details, can you somehow email me back with some kind of explanation. Is he alive? Have his teeth been removed? Is this story, as I have explained, correct? I would very much appreciate if you could enlighten. At this point, many people are looking at this scenario as unethical and inhumane. I know there are always two sides to every story, so I would very much appreciate a response. Thank you for taking the time to read my email and I hope to hear back soon. Regards,

what a crazy story! sorry for the bump if it's distressing to bear for you babs, but i wonder if there was a resolution or a retribution. what i don't understand is, what good does it do them to keep your cat? there's no reason i can fathom that they shouldn't give him back, other than to be assholes.

and ridiculous that they mandated the pair went together, and when forced to break them up due to his condition, and then she begins to suffer emotionally and he is now reasonably better, why they would not want to restore the partnership they sought to preserve in the first place?

i saw where you said you don't want any money out of this, because it's like attaching a price to your loved one, but only think of it as punishing them for their mistreatment and poor handling and general ass-hattedness in the only way the legal system allows for. they fucked up big time, and are just playing tough/dumb to avoid admitting their errors. make them pay!

i hope you're not upset i bumped this, but i haven't been around and frankly this is the kind of treatment one would expect to get from a virtual group casino, not an animal care facility. did i miss the resolution thread, because the last post i read was from some two weeks ago? i hope there has been some kind of progress since.

sorry you had to endure such an ordeal. ultimately i hope he is returned to you at no cost, and furthermore that you can also make it recognized (through publicity and/or civil court) how absurdly they have treated you and your loved ones. stay strong, b!

(((Happy))) How you been? Boy, its been a long time since Ive seen you. Im glad you stopped by. You must be real busy.

Nothing was ever resolved. I wrote one last heartfelt letter that I showed to only 2 people and frankly, Im surprised I didnt hear back from them. It was a real nice letter. I guess they dont have a big enough heart.

Ive been trying to adopt Inky. Hes an older cat (9 yrs old). Im almost there. At this new place when you adopt a cat that is older than 5yrs old they do complete blood work and check up to make sure he is healthy. The vet gave him a clean bill of health but noticed a small amount of crystals. THe shelter didnt specify which kind of crystals. There are two kinds...one that can be managed with low ph food and the other one that is worse and cause severe blockage leading to surgery and pain.

Since I just went through what I did, Im afraid I dont have it in me to get him if its the bad kind. I should hear today and if hes ok, Ill be adopting him tonight or tomorrow.

Here is a picture of Inky Poor guys has been in shelters and foster homes for over 2 years. his past parents didnt take care of him and his brother. His brother got very sick and died and Inky has been stuck in this stinky cat room forever. I just want his later years to be comfy and cozy. He deserves it.

Babs, let me know if he has a broken tail! My ex-girlfriend and I had a black cat named Inky, and ~9 years would be how old he is now......................................! He stayed with my ex when we broke up...

One day he climbed under the bed, and somehow broke his tail This was back in the late 90's...

hiya babs! just this and that, and i'm still stuck on this linux machine so the only sites i can really play are the chartwells vc and betfair. and i haven't a lot of extra cash currently so i've been staying away from gambling. but i was super bored reading another forum and remembered this place so i decided to check in.

after christmastime i want to head back up to niagara with the new girlfriend, hit the casinos and see the falls (hopefully frozen, it looks so cool). can't go before the holidays in case i lose; i don't want to have to cheap out on gifts. maybe for new year's would be neat, i wonder if it's a big do. i really like live gambling, it's like a fun treat. plus i like driving the highway and doing road trips.
