It sounds psychological to me. Confirmation bias with maybe a bit of Frequency illusion/Baader-Meinhof phenomenon thrown in.
In other words, because you have convinced yourself of something you see evidence to back it up everywhere and ignore anything that goes against your belief.
There are a couple of books called Freakonomics that talk about this sort of thing, really interesting. Basically, we can't trust our brains.
