I'm sorry but the improper use of these two words just makes me cringe.

Copied this from an article I read earlier....

Loose vs Lose
The words loose and lose are mixed up in writing; for some reason, many people write loose when they really mean lose. But there's no reason to lose your mind worrying about this, just lose the extra o!

Loose

Loose is an adjective, the opposite of tight or contained.

My shoes are loose

I have a loose tooth

There's a dog running loose in the street

Lose

Lose is a verb that means to suffer the loss of, to miss.

I win! You lose!

Don't lose your keys

I never lose bets

The Bottom Line

Simple carelessness leads people to write loose when they mean lose. Just remember that lose has one o, and loose has two. Start with loose, lose an o, and what do you get? Lose!

There's a few of them for me...but the one that makes me grind my teeth everytime is the roGUe vs roUGe thing, lol.

One is red, one is bad. And it drives me nuts. I just try and skip over it now whenever I see it, lol. :p

lol...I know what you mean! I'm one of those people who can spot a typo or a spelling error on a billboard that I'm driving past at 80mph. And shame on those people, they're supposed to be professionals!

But in forums I've noticed that people have trouble between to and too or they're and their and there - or like you say lose and loose - or even chose and choose. (Weird though that choose rhymes with lose) And of course in this forum it's rouge vs rogue - that happens all the time.

I was thinking we should release some official Casinomeister cosmetics, featuring Rogue Rouge. That'll really send 'em for a loop! :D

What is mind boggling is that these are all 3,4,5 letter words, with one syllable.....not spelling bee mind benders.

Not trying to be a grammar snob or anything, but still......

Well I suppose that a lot of us make simple typos. I often see a few misspelled words after a post... But if your first language is not English, more people would be prone to the Then/Than - There/Their - Too/To - Loose/lose error ....

Lol.. It's funny though :D

@Max... She looks HOT in Rogue Rouge:notworthy

Isn't there a spellchecker for those who are unable to spell correctly?

Also I hate those run-on sentences where punctuation is lacking It makes the post difficult to decipher and LOSES effectiveness (IMO)

I assumed that's what the winky face was for...

Swear to God.....I'm such a tool sometimes.

Sorry Bryan.

OMG!!! The run on sentences!! And the paragraphs composed of two million sentences, lol. I've gotten to the point now where most of the time I won't even read posts like that anymore. Too hard on the old eyes, and it makes my head hurt.

Not near enough emphasis is placed on spelling, grammar and punctuation in school these days, IMO. And these are all basic skills that I believe you absolutely NEED later on in life. Everyone should be able to compose at least a basic, professional business letter/email, whatever. Sort of sad.

I think that the problem is that people tend to rely on their spellchecker too much and don't bother paying attention to what they type. They're and their are both words after all - spellchecker won't check the context of the word in the sentence to see if the person is using the correct one.

That reminds me, one of my clients sent out a document to a bunch of his fellow bigshots - but he just did a spellcheck and there were no errors so he just sent it without running it past someone like me first - in the first paragraph he mentioned "roll models" :eek2: and at the end he said something like "I'm offering this free information as a bride to you...." when he actually meant bribe. lol, at least I HOPE that's what he meant! :D

A friend of mine in school wrote an essay on King Cnut - he made a rather embarassing spelling mistake throughout the 3 or 4 pages. I won't go into detail, I am sure you can work it out for yourselves.
