"I'm not superstitious, but I do believe in omens."
Nowhere is the concept of "luck" more roundly debunked than at the card tables and flashing machines of a casino. The universe itself is lumpy and everything in it owes its existence to lumpiness, aka: standard deviation. "Winning" comes down to a few fundamentals and the ever-present and unpredictable likelihood of catching a statistically anomalous wave. Hitting the big time is nothing more than being an outlier.
Something about random chance and finding (imagining) patterns where there are none intrigues me. For some inexplicable reason, I want blind, unfeeling, unchangeable chance to love me. I want to win what can't be won, excel at something over which I have no control. Pure ego: I'm gonna beat that game!
