Let's quit drinking and gambling rant

As a hardened gambler since the age of 13 (I'm now 51), I'm all for a complete ban of online gambling.

(Sorry).

I live in London, UK.
Quite a selfish attitude in all honesty. Some people actually have control I pay what I have to first then freely spend the rest. Why should others suffer because you say so? Might as well shackle everyone because we need some outlet, ffs.

It at least needs to be moderated properly by people who know what they are looking for. Preventing shady Providers taking games down and gimping them. Yes BTG, I am looking at you.

I realise that. But the amounts of times I've been at home, drinking and gambling.

Grim.

Rule number one don't drink and gamble. Definitely a bad combination. Something I'm highly unlikely to do. But limits and time outs can help this. Or on videoslots max bet protection to stop you betting higher mine is set at 1 euro (joined before videoslots had any other currencies)

My bank sent me out a letter saying "lets talk about gambling" and a leaflet to get support how patronizing can you get?. This nannying has to stop! I discarded it as after my bills are paid I will do what the fk I like with my money.
They are right though Dave and you know it.

I don't have much going on in my life right now. I don;t have a girl or dependents I barely see family due to the pandemic. I need something to occupy myself with. Something I enjoy. I don't even gamble excessively that's what angers me. They're treating me like a criminal.

And quite frankly it is none of their business. As I am not going overdrawn so it makes no difference to them. They've saw some transactions and just because some are gambling they're tarring me with the same brush. And fyi half if not more than half are bets im putting on for my mate.

You could treat yourself to a weekend away, go for a nice meal in a restaurant, etc etc.

Anyway, obviously none of my business.

But just my opinion that's all. If I couldn't gamble online, I know I would be a richer man, both financially and mentally.

I have pretty severe anxiety tbh so a weekend away is not an option. I only like to be in the company of those I know now. As many have let me down. As for restaurants same issue crowded with people no thank you.

I think that goes for most people really, definitely me anyway.

But you get my drift. Lots of things you can do with your hard earned, apart from feeding the coffers of anonymous online casinos.
But what irks me is I’m not reckless. I shouldn’t be treated as such. Unless balance is high I don’t bet more than 50p a spin do I sound like someone people need to be concerned over? One exception is party casino tournament I bet 60p as its the minimum.

As long as there's humans there'll be those that find ways to be self- destructive, whether long- term or in compulsive pangs......not sure banning online gambling outright will have the desired effect you believe it will.

Though in all honesty the current lepered state of the industry could do with a bit of a great reset (that one's for Geordiecolin)

Hopefully soon the industry will crash and blow up into smithereens, from which a more fair, transparent and player- friendly ecosystem can emerge, you never know....

If anything needs banning from a destructive societal point of view it actually ought to be Social Media, and yes I'm being serious. Easily more damage wrought from that globally than any drunken impulsive gambling binge

Personally I'm all up for an alcohol ban. Don't see what people get out of it at all. Causes nothing but anti-social and reckless behaviour.

They are right though Dave and you know it.
Why should anyone tell me, you, Tom, Dick or Harry what they can and can't spend their own money on? Banks have no moral right to tell anyone what they can and can't spend on given A) we're forced to use them and B) they were bailed out in the not too distant past with OUR money. They'd have otherwise gone to the wall.

I’m up for helping people who want and feel they need to be helped, but let others get on with their life how they choose to live it.

Not sure that's fair.
There's idiots scrap for 0 cause..had a few and liquid courage
And those as mellow, feel less introverted, feel....social.....and well, feel less pain VS a half dozen pills
I drink
I'm not, nor ever, mean..it isnt in my nature sober or a few cups in

It's..like anything..pills, booze, exercise, drugs, gambling, Hell, beating your...er......habits.....everything in moderation is all

I find your view to be more selfish. "Let me have my fun whilst others suffer"
Not everyone suffers
Some can blow 20k gambling
some spend 10 to 100 because, well.....entertainment
I've friends blow a K or 2 on games and another 3-5 K on devices

So an alcohol ban is cool because you don't like it...

but how dare you mention banning slots, no one should tell me how to spend my money😂

Very selfish creatures aren't we 😂

I've friends lose 200 to 1K on bars and pubs in a few days to a week
I stay home Fridays and spend 200 and still buy a box of beer and had fun :)

Ok, you can judge that expense
Put it another way
I dont eat out, I dont get orders in, I dont hit cinemas

Another way?
1-2 k on sports
You find your own fun , ya

Of course. Many spend what they can afford. That's true.

Many more have no control.

Gambling as a lifestyle and as an addiction ruins people more than drugs or alcohol.

The high of gambling ends at a lower point than any drug addiction. You can always get more drugs if needs be.
You can't get back the money you've lost on gambling.
Fair play to the moral crusaders who can control what they spend and put themselves on a shelf above the ones who can't. Trying to tell people you should have more control, it's not our fault you spunk all your money.
Thanks for the pat on the head and I hope you feel good about being superior but gambling isn't something you start thru anti social behaviour. It's legal. So it's fine to bet. It's fine to punt. Look there's adverts on the telly , everyone loves a bet now and then.

Lads love betting on the footy!

If I go out and start chasing the dragon in front of my parents at 15 I'd have a coppers boot on my neck. It's sound if I put a bet on tho, put one on for my dad whilst I'm there 👍

I'll be labelled as a bitter gambling addict. And I deserve that title. Done it for 30 years.

Been 'clean' for 3 months and I've seen things get better that you wouldn't associate with gambling.

Sleep disruption - Ive been a great sleeper all my life other than the last couple of years. Couldn't pin down why. Stopped gambling. Sleeping like a baby again.

Short temper - gambling days (Saturday and Sunday). The weekend that I spend with my kids I also spent gambling on football. Between 3pm and 6pm my mood was dependent on football results. Not fair on my kids.

General mood - I constantly checked websites for freebies. It became OCD like. Being preoccupied with something that seems so minor. And you don't believe it has an effect on you, until you stop doing it. Then you realise what a drain it is. It makes you tired. Thinking back to the time you won 100 quid off 10p a few months ago and why wouldnt you keep trying to do the same thing cos it's free. Sack it whilst I'm doing this I might aswell see what odds I'd get for a Southampton , crystal palace and Everton treble. So if I stick this number I'm willing to stake in the stake box it tells me I'll get a 300+ return? Can't miss out on 300+!!!

Yeah but spend within your limit champ. Don't go blowing all your cash.

I am within my limit, sort of. If I put this tenner on it just means I won't bother getting a takeaway on Friday. Needed some socks for a while, like. Fuck the socks, I've got loads of socks , no one sees the holes cos they're in trainers anyway😎😎

I'm chilling next month. Get a massive wage this month cos of the overtime so I can do 200 at the start of the month.

End of the month comes and you could really really do with 200 quid.

Respect to brainy gamblers that budget 😎🥃

👍
Can you support that, or an opnion?
Addicts, in any metric, can lose income, homes, lifestyles and health
