OMG I am so P**SED RIGHT NOW.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS! I LIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA, NOT NEW JERSEY.

I'm an innocent bystander! I think the way MG is going about this is ALL WRONG. They are apparently using IP address information from ARIN (www.arin.net), and going solely by where the company that the IP's are registered to is. That has NOTHING to do with where I am PHYSICALLY located.

Hi Brian !

In light of the recent changes in US legislation, the Jackpot Factory casino group has decided to stop taking
bets from players residing in the following states, as determined by the player's IP address:

* Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New York,
Oregon, Utah, South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin.
* Unfortunately, your IP address traces to New Jersey,
and on Tuesday, November 4th, your account will be blocked.
* Please note that the casino will conduct a manual withdrawal for any remaining funds in your casino cash
account at the start of the next work week. The Jackpot Factory prides itself on its honesty and integrity,
so please rest assured that you will receive your outstanding funds.
* If you do not actually reside in New Jersey, please forward a valid picture ID with current address
(such as a driver's license) to us at support@jackpotfactory.com.

(such as a driver's license) to us at support@jackpotfactory.com.

Thank you for understanding in this matter.

All the best,

I knew this was going to happen. This is just the beginning. RTG will no doubt follow suit in the future. How the heck is your IP a NJ trace anyway?

I guess MG doesn't want to be charged on a technicality that gambling bytes are being routed through servers based in a banned state even though the player lives in an allowable state.

Those living close to the banned states would have to switch to ISPs that have servers within their allowable state. It works the other way too; those who live in any of the banned states can get an ISP with servers in an allowable state- but come the time to withdrawal, they may have a problem with the documentation requirements.

I travel frequently, so I use what's basically a 'wireless modem' for my Internet access, through Verizon. I can be online anywhere in the country that I can get a Verizon signal.

Since it works on any computer that I plug it into, I use it for access at home, too. That way I don't have to pay for two Internet providers.

You'd be surprised at how many innocent people are going to be affected by this method of blocking users. Especially when it comes to the national ISP's....I could almost guarantee that a lot of Kentuckians or other people in other banned states are going to get around the blocks, simply because whichever address their ISP's IP addresses are registered to point to a different state altogether.

Local ISP's are going to be affected, but if you use a national ISP, chances are you're either SOL, or very lucky.

Here's a pic of my modem:

You're kidding, right? I'm not switching ISP's simply because Beshear wants to govern the Internet.

I will fight this tooth and nail, no matter what it takes. It's not about being able to gamble online or where my IP address supposedly is "located," it's all about the principle of the matter now.

I'm in live chat with the VPL group right now, trying to find out what their stance is on this.

For now, I'll withhold final judgment on how disruptive this new policy is until we see how efficiently they review ID docs from players who were mistakenly flagged by their IP identification and want to challenge the blocking of their account.

Let us know how it goes, winbig.

SOL WITH A VZW USB720 MODEM and OUR NEXT GOVERNOR IN 2010:eek::eek:

Thanks for heads up Winbig:thumbsup:

This may be the only way around this BS until MG gets their head out of their A** :p

Well this really sucks. It should be where the "player" is located NOT the IP since players from banned jurisdictions can use proxy servers to fake their whereabouts. This IP banning is probably being implemented via paranoia - Westland Bowl is probably right, they may fear being hauled in over a technicality.

Hopefully the casinos can come up with a better solution for this.

Yea, you right about that...it does suck, but on the flip side if that is how MG really wants to play that game then you can use one of those sites I listed to actually bounce your IP around so much and so fast that no one can really pin it down to any particular location !! I'm not going to say which site though as that may jeopardize some but it's easily figured out by the user...;)

shouldnt this be another reason why casinos should ask for ID verification before a player plays at a casino, it would not only prove where your from but (if your in a banned state or not)also there shouldnt be any problems about with holding payment re.dodgy documents, (if they have been cleared)
i know a points been made about players wanting to play at a casino instantly and going else where if they cant but with all these problems happening something has to change,
maybe if all casinos asked for verification before hand then if you play at a casino that doesnt ask and you get burned then its your own fault for playing there,
couldnt ecogra put it in there terms that a casino has to do this, just like they have it in there terms that a casino must ask a player to provide id when requesting a cashout

Maybe we can get David Brickman on here to comment on this too since this has been two or more letters now received by members on here regarding this issue but I have still not seen any from the other casinos so this looks like it is only JPF Group that are sending these out and not MG !!

Another way:

1. Download Firefox (mozilla)
2. Go To Tools on Top
3. Click on Options
4.Go to Network Tab
5.Click on Settings under connection
6. Click on the manual proxy configuration button (notice below its just on No proxy))
7. In proxy box type: 202.106.16.36
8. Port box type: 3128
9. Click oK

This will take much longer but it will show you coming from Asia. This is what alot of US people do to watch movies that arnt available to US players.

The other good thing is when you go back to normal proxy, the tab remembers these numbers so you dont have to remember them again

Hmmm...out of interest, do any of those proxy servers allow you access to Wagerworks casinos by any chance?

That's good and all, but if a person is in fact in a banned state, they're going to have a hard time cashing out....

Ok, let's say Verizon owns a block of IP's that are given to people all over the country. ARIN is in charge of documenting all of this information.

MG pulls up that information when it sees your IP address.

Then they compare physical address the company used (the information that ARIN has) to register the IP addresses, and goes by that. 9 times out of 10, that registered physical address isn't going to be in the same state that you live in.

I kinda think that Kentucky knew this going in (or at least had a consultant tell them this,) and it makes a great case for them to go into court and say "hey, Kentuckians can still access these sites. These companies have to forfeit their domains."

Just for grins and giggles, I ran my IP. There is something to be said for living in the country. I have DSL through my local phone provider. It has Texas plastered all over it.

But the knowledge about the mobile modems was good to know. I have used my mobile phone with wireless modem on my laptop. Don't guess that will be an option any more.

:)

An easy way to see if you're affected by this or not is to head over to:

www.whatismyip.com, grab the IP address it says you have, then visit www.arin.net with that IP and paste it into the box in the upper right corner and click 'search whois.'

hmm i just tried that and it says im in amsterdam , i know the uk is part of the EU but as im not seeing hash cafes and ladies in there underware all over the place, i think it may be wrong
:D

Hmmmm... did the Whois thingy and even though I live in Alabama, the IP came up as Wisconsin my ISP's 'home'.
