HBO? I have to buy the Sopranos on DVD
Discovery Channel - nope.
Seinfeld? In German - so I buy the DVDs

jetset said:Agree with you regarding Sky, GF - for international news and having reporters on the spot fast they are tops in my opinion. Interesting that you (presumably in the UK) pay only GBP 20 a month. That is very reasonable. In South Africa even with a direct currency conversion that does not take other factors into account the service is Rands 400 a month - another example of overpricing in SA (cars are another example of rip-off prices way in excess of UK or US prices)
jetset said:That is an educated asessment, GF - and the average salaries are correspondingly lower than in Europe with the currency conversions. But it's just good old fashioned "take 'em for as much as the market will stand" and in a country where the public transport system is not that hot a car is an important acquisition.
Ironically, our manufacturing industry makes BMW 3 series, Mercedes C Class and VWs for export to Australia among other places - I'll bet they don't overcharge there!
There was recently a commission which found that the public were being overcharged (there was another one on cell phones with the same conclusion) but it made no difference - the car manufacturers stalled it and appealed it and are "reviewing it in the context of the impact on the market of an adjustment" and still nothing happens. Car sales are still strong...they're getting away with it.
