Is Poker Stars Rigged?

Hi all,

I know this is something that has been running through peoples minds a lot over the years and i know there have been a lot of discussions about it but id like to get your opinion?

DO you think poker stars is rigged? I cant help but feel something isnt right there. I have played poker for over 10 years and i wish poker was more like the golden days of Microgaming and William Hill being on their own network etc but it isnt so i am trying my best to adapt and im struggling to the point where i might just give up the game that's been so good to me in the past.

I have noticed in both tournaments and cash games lately that you will get set up a LOT and the better you play the more you are at risk. If you make what you consider to be a few good folds, eventually it seems to put you in the most impossible situation where you just cant fold and the only thing to do is push all in and eventually get sucked out.

Now to the point that's made me considering giving up this great game. I decided to play a few games this morning because i couldn't sleep and i was bored. Now i know these hands aren't what i described above and i know i could fold them quite easily but none the less this is absolutely ridiculous what happened. I decided to play 0.50/1.00 Omaha (my favorite game) and there was an idiot raising every single bloody hand so i decided to do the normal thing, limp in and if i hit see how much i can get out of him. This is just a few of the hands....... The following happened....

As you can see, one guy hitting absolutely everything and if he didn't hit he would bet like crazy till he did, and believe me, he did, EVERY TIME.

now these are just 3 hands from one session out of a massive playing history i have and the same as this just keeps on happening, if i play again IF i play again im going record it and start a youtube channel titled "WHAT THE F*** AM I DOING WRONG"

Its not just me either, my best mate plays stars daily because he loves the massive tournaments. He is currently on a 2 week long streak of these ridiculous bad beats.

Is anyone else experiencing this crap?

Ed

Well if you can't trust PokerStars than who can you trust? I can relate to your frustration though. It's always frustrating

Apparently it's considered normal to never win a decent amount ;) If your getting terrible results then stop playing it's as simple as that :)

where do you all play? are there any other sites with similar tournaments to stars?

Since posting this its happened again so im done with stars, cant be arsed with it.

Not anymore since I requested a self-exclusion from their site back in 2011:thumbsup:

It's plain simple, if you don't think you're getting a fair game, then vote with your money and play elsewhere!

I've found the Microgaming poker platform to be the most reliable, even though it means less players and less promotions. Things even out for me over the long term EV wise, while I couldn't dream to run anywhere near EV at PokerStars or Full Tilt back in the day over the course of a couple hundred thousand hands.

I was thinking about going back to MG as i used to be quite pally with the poker manager Nick, but a friend of mine said there was a bit of cheating going on with MG a while back and he would never trust them. Any idea what hes talking about? is it true?

Ed

from your example I don't see anything to suggest it is rigged, why on earth you would stick at a table and play someone who raises every hand I do not know, from what I see you are calling all his raises even tho you have very poor hands, why not just fold like everyone else then call his raises when you had a decent hand then maybe you might have won

I don't think Stars is rigged - why would they?
Unlike casinos, the poker room ALWAYS wins (through the rake) and getting caught cheating would ruin them. There is absolutely no incentive for them to run any sort of bent game.

You're asking about tournaments, but you were obviously playing a ring game there. My suggestion IS to play tourneys (Sit'n'Gos) so that at least you know the maximum you can lose right from the start.
I used to play Poker quite a lot - mostly Omaha Hi-Lo (my first ever poker site was Stars, way back in 2001). The problem you'll have if you like Omaha is finding room with enough action on this variation of the game.

I can't suggest any other sites to try as I don't play much now. Personally I love PKR, because I'm a big fan of the realistic talking avatars, but there's very little non-Texas action going on there :(

KK

Oh, most definitely it is.

Still, I would just keep playing....just to make sure and all that...

Tired of this kind of posts? ;)

Vote with your feet! Don't trust them? Walk away!

and that's me with the royal

It's nice that it happened for you instead of against you.

I have had a hand before where I had QQ he had KK we both limped preflop. Flop 2KQ we both went all in and I had another Q on the river. Next hand I had AA we ended up all in preflop he had the other 2 AA so AA vs AA and he hit a flush. ITS AMAZING

Also have you ever noticed the final 2 tables of any multi table tournement always ends up with a huge action hand where 60-80% of the table have all got pocket pairs??

You couldn't make up this stuff it's just unimaginable and unexpected when it happens you just feel like the missus has ran behind you and kicked your nuts into your lungs

Thanks for the feedback. I do play a lot of cash games. Always have and always been pretty profitable. However when I have 5 or 6 hours spare I love a big old tournement. I've tried PKR but found it really slow and got bored quickly.

I've heard a rediculous rumour that the stars is owned by the Russian mafia. Anyone know if there's any truth behind that?

bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla
i can not count how much times i saw such posts / threads
in your hands nothing really interesting or rigged, lol, you had two top pairs on first, and got beaten by straight, this is omaha, and two pairs most times is shit.
PS is good, but looks like you do not know what variance mean, or looks like you just bad player, nothing else to say.

re russian mafia
once i played HU against really fishy player, i won him 3-0 and he still accept rematch, and he told i win because i am russian and starts owned by russian mafia.
:p

I knew someone would say something like this just because you think your amazing and you like to give it the big I am.

I clearly stated those hands are just a few of a large list over the past year or so.

If you don't have anything positive to add to this thread don't post. I have no plan on massaging your ego at all so don't waste your time.

I'm looking for advice from ppl who have been through the same as me and want to know where else they have taken their play to.

you could try full tilt...or party poker ...

But IMHO you played the last 2 hands bad, both the hands are a clear pot size raise on the flop....... to take it down there and then......

The thing was tho he would have called the raise on the flop. He was all in every hand like crazy even when he had absolutely nothing. And pretty much always hit a gutshot straight or flush. Was nuts.

Just opened an account at partypoker. Gonna give that a go. Not really a fan of the layout of full tilt. See how party goes and take it from there :)

You blaming here pokerstars, most reputable online poker room in the world. I like this site, and like how they do their job. I have same rights as you to write on this topic, if you have problem, pay doctor and it will take care about you.
Once again, suggestion from poker player, go down on limits, play NL 2 - 5 zoom, relax. After downstreak always coming upstreak, if you not bad player.
This is not slots, you should work hard everyday to be good player, and complaining like here will not help you.
Full tilt owned by PS, so not good for you.
Try ipoker, will hill or betfair, there is much more better field.

and they add new poker format twister poker, google about it i play few 1000's of them at 5$ limit, and there is lot of clowns, not so hard to beat them. Be sure you had 200 buy'ins at least, and you good at pushfold.

re your feelings: today i had 50$ on my ftp account and play adrenalin rush ( push or fold only) with 5$ stakes. I lost 50$ in 15 mins, lost AA < A3 , AK < k5, KT < K9 and many more. This is poker, and everyone loses from time to time. Relax.
If you never played at ipoker, PM i give you good affy who pays around 120$ for 100$ in rake. You try the field and earn some cash.

afaik they had some idiotic things like fees on withdrawals, and stupid tournament structure. But for cash i do not know...
