I believe i read on wikipedia that in most casinos slot machines alone are responsible for over 70% of the profit of the casino. Can anyone confirm that?

The logic was that, first there the house edge is the biggest and second, they are the simplest to play and because of that the most people play them. Even grandmas because all you have to do is, push a button.

Roulette and card games like "Let it Ride" or Caribbean Stud or the Money wheel are the most profitable games offered for the casinos, then probably slots in terms of Brick and Mortar casinos.

Really depends on which jurisdiction you are at. For B & M casinos the biggest money spinner is definitely Baccarat. I have personally witnessed a Taiwanese businessman playing at USD130,000 or more for each hand and his 5 followers betting USD 1300 per hand just to accompany him. I witnessed around a dozen hands and they lost every hand. Psychologically, people bet big on this game due to the low house edge and the high betting limits. Some people like to boast when they go on a huge winning streak netting them millions but never dare to admit the opposite. You will never get close to these amounts wagered in slots. Even the extreme hi-rollers spin around USD 100 per spin and that's peanuts compared to what is wagered at Baccarat. Casinos thrive on turnover to overcome the ups and downs. A higher house edge means nothing if turnover is low.

From a quick google search, I found this:

"Of the states that report slot and
table game revenue separately, all of them receive
at least 62 percent of their revenues from electronic
gaming machines. Properties in Iowa (91.0 percent)
and South Dakota (90.3 percent) receive the largest
percentage of revenues from slots, and Nevada
(62.5 percent) receives the smallest portion."

(You must register/login in order to see the link., AGA survey using 2012 revenue data.)

While it's certainly true that high rollers at the card tables blow the stakes of most slot players out of the water, there are far fewer of them, the games they play are generally lower house edge, and it takes much longer to play a hand of blackjack or round of craps than a quick spin of the reels. The sheer volume of players sitting at the slots for hours on end seems to outweigh the take from the few high rollers that come in, even in Nevada, where Vegas is pretty much the U.S. Mecca for high rollers.

It's tougher to say whether or not this is true with online casinos, since data may be a little tougher to find, and the system of offering deposit bonuses may complicate the numbers. However, I would guess that slots are still the main revenue provider since many players don't trust or dislike the feel of the virtual table games.

Now this is hard data that really shows something. Thank you!
People seem to be misleaded by the flashy big loses on the tables, while people are losing smaller amounts but constantly and in numbers in the corners with the slots.

I have been playing online slots one year already... And my own profit is 50-50. I lose and win. I guess it is very difficult to find the answer.

Having played table games in B&M casinos for many years ------ my highest VIP status and level of comps including free chartered flights, hotel rooms, tourney invites, free play, gifts etc have all come since I started being an active slots player. I have no illusions -- they "love" slots players and treat us royally compared to poker players, especially who are on the bottom rung of the comps later.

We keep the lights on in the casinos and they want us coming back and back and back again.

Diane, I would like to ask you... What do you think about modern online slots? You have experience in this sphere and can you point the most popular slots software? I noticed that slots fans adore Microgaming and Net Ent games. My friends play them too. However, I don`t know the most popular of them. Or maybe there are more interesting software? Of course each gambler have heard about Book of Ra:D but what about others?

Here in the USA, I am not aware of any site where we can still play Microgaming or Net Ent games???

I like 3Dice, RTG with Club World Group, and Top Game through Winward Casino. I also have been playing some lately at Winaday sister to Slotland.

However -----DISCLAIMER, Winward is NOT accredited and while you asked my personal opinion, my best advice I give is to stick with the accredited casinos listed here that allow US players to participate. Winward has treated me well and honored all commitments and pay promptly. But many others here have not had the same good experience with them.

UK Brick and Mortar casinos report their drop and win figures to the Gambling Commission, these are consolidated and released after a delay so the latest we have is for the year to March 2013.

Machines are heavily limited in terms of numbers and stake. There are three types of machine B1, B2 and B3. The revenues from these are £130.3m, £5.72m and £0.35m respectively.

Obviously this is B&M UK casinos and not online stuff at all.

In contrast the table game figures are much higher

    Roulette £343.4m
    Blackjack £184.52
Electronic Gaming £130.94m (mostly roulette terminals linked to real tables)
Punto Banco £105.4m (This is a Baccarat format)
    Three Card Poker 49.45m
There are some other small things like Dice, Casino Stud Poker and other (mostly Pai Gow) but these are the biggies.

As you can see in the UK - because of the regulatory limits - table game revenues dwarf machine revenues.

Can you tell us what are the slot limits in UK? Are there any limits for the online ones?

Let's face it, slots, and videoslots in particular, are the most addictive casino games. You can win big with just a small bet if you are just lucky enough to hit that bonus game. And that's what it's all about. Chasing the bonus feature. Sure, you can win big at slots, but you can loose even more once you start chasing. Compare this to table games, where most people get up and leave if a table is bad. On slots however, you feel you are getting closer to the bonus feature with every spin.

The slot limits in the UK are

B1 - £5 stake with a £10k single machine jackpot and £20k single site pooled jackpot - These are casinos only.
B2 - £100 stake max and £500 max win (Bookmakers only - no booze no kids)
B3 - £2 stake max and £500 jackpot max. (On same bookmaker machines but also in dry adult gaming centres that have kids in part of the building but not by the B3 machines, they have silly rails around them)

There are more categories, details here: including most significantly essentially pub based Amusement With Prizes machines at £1 max stake £100 jackpot max.

You must register/login in order to see the link.

Online there re no limits. In future the UK will require licencing for those providing games in the UK ad the significant item there is declared RTPs rather than hidden. Though the consultations due in the next couple of weeks may add some player fund protection measures, some third party appeal procedures or more that are significant.

    Hi

It is true that for most of the revenues for the majorities of casinos (both offline and online) comes from the slot machines. The main reasons for this is not just the fact that house edge is higher than the traditional table games such as BJ, Roulette and Baccarat whos payout ranges varies (depending on different variation of the game) between say 99,5-98%, whereas slot machines more normally are in the 98-96% area. The reason is that the slotmachines turnover is just unmatched by the table games.

    Regards
    Erik

Haven't we all been there. After watching all seasons of the Las Vegas series and seeing people doing one spin and hitting the big jackpot on the main slot machine, i tried my luck when i went there the first time. I actually tried my luck so many times, there were no funds left for poker :( Oh well, at least i learned to never play slots again :)

Anyway, I'm not into slots that much anymore I'd rather go for roulette but my favorite at the moment would be online bingo!
