IRRESPONSIBLE gaming issue

So, we have divided opinion on whether the 15% levy is workable, affordable for the casinos and what effect it will have on players. The authorities will not kill the golden goose for sure, and the 15% figure will not have been clutched from the air. As has been said already in this thread, it's not dissimilar to what has been levied on land-based bookies already, which have greater overheads. The government holds all the aces. Should they want to exclude us from playing at non-approved offshore sites or softwares overnight they could easily rule that webwallets or direct payments funded by UK debit/credit cards do not fall under the usual card protection schemes - overnight the webwallets and card companies and banks would bar payments to such. No legislation would be necessary. Those sites that don't cooperate would find it very hard to take money from the UK, a major proportion of their revenues.

So, to summarize, this looks like an easy option for the UK treasury after the criticism about non-taxation of companies making huge profits from UK customers but accounting offshore to avoid taxes. They are starting with UK-owned large 'offshore' businesses involved in the huge online gaming industry. It was inevitable I suppose.

When you compare land based casinos to online casinos you should keep in mind the land based casinos are a completely different breed of animal. These casinos generally offer lower TRTPs right off the top. They're usually attached to fancy hotels and restaurants that most people have to pay to use and sell tickets to shows. These things are used for perks for high rollers but most people do pay to use them. There's an entire industry that revolves around the B&Ms that extends from gaming to tourism.

That may be how they can afford to pay the taxes and fees. One thing none of us want is the legislation to effectively drop the TRTP of all the online games we play by 10 or 15% or the casinos to start charging an arm and a leg to deposit and withdrawal. According to the OLG the minimum RTP for their B&M slots is only 85%. Obviously they don't report on a slot by slot basis but if the minimum is set at 85% most of these slots probably aren't doing much better than that. We've all sat through sessions with our RTPs sitting in the low 80s. I'd rather that not become the norm.

The FOBTs in UK bookmakers which offer three card poker, roulette, and slots (B3) do so at essentially the same RTP as you get online. They pay 20% tax and they have bigger overheads yet still make money. The comparator of live table games and the resort casino experience is not as close as the FOBT. UK FOBTs have to report on RTP for each game on the machine.

Speaking of IGT, how come Canadians aren't allowed to use this software? Or is it just the one I tried to join?

I think it was due to some deal IGT struck with the lottery or land casinos. last year? Others will know more about it.

In another post today I asked about OLG's statement from April. The statement said "SPIELO G2 was selected as OLG's primary service provider." Is that the same software?

no that is a different manufacturer I think.

I forget how I found out, probabally read it in one of the forum newsletters. But I did ask the AM at Mr. Green and she said no canadian players anymore as I was adding the free IGT slots at time.

I thought it had something to do with this IGT press release, but could be wrong as I'm not familiar with the Canadian lottery.

re PAB update

So the PAB didn't go in my favour. Which I understand as I did originally agree to the casino part refund to my account. However I will just say if you do like a casino to be able to enforce the responsible gaming limits I wouldn't recommend playing at Emu Casino. I'm fine with the results but I do think people should be aware

Me too, not for the same reasons as yourself.
