Inappropriate behavior warning

Thought I would post this here since this has to do with the forum as a whole: after my return of being gone for a week (the moderators were absent as well), I found that a few members had a lapse of good judgement - two of whom were suspended or banned (Lojo - 90 days, and tim5ny - permanent ban).

Lojo's offence - telling members to "shut the fuck up" on two accounts, and he has had his account suspended three times in the past for similar offences. Tim5ny - for his misogynistic and garbage thread about oral sex, and his comment "She's just someone's whore.. like most bitches!" Tim has been banned twice for racist or misogynistic comments in the past.

No one has the right to tell anyone here to shut the fuck up - and I shouldn't have to say what is wrong with Tim's comments.

What is alarming to me, is that there was not a general outcry. Only a couple of members came to me pointing out their concern - as you know, it's impossible for me to read every posting; I rely on members to police their own behavior and ensure that their peers are not behaving badly.

There are a number of members who are in lurk mode because of some of these incidents, which is alarming as well. I am not merely alarmed that they are not posting, what is disappointing is that they are not claiming their forum back.

I don't control who posts and what is posted. My job is to ensure that the forum is functioning and that it is well organized. I am also committed to making this a place welcome to all - but most of that responsibility falls into your hands. It is a member's board - and it is you who is charged with providing relevant and thought provoking discussions. And it is you who is charged with ensuring that the environment here is relaxed, enjoyable and/or conductive to serious undertakings (as in the complaint sections).

For those of you that may find other members annoying - don't forget you have an ignore button. Check your User CP and use this. And for those of you who find a posting offensive, please click the "report this post" and alert us (the moderators) to problematic posts/threads. We are counting on you.

If you are one of the lurkers, please jump in and get involved. I have some very cool and unprecedented things planned for this forum in the upcoming weeks. You won't be disappointed.

It is pity this had to happen. It is always sad to see people behaving in such a manner. But I guess it boils down to one thing. If you do not have any self respect, you probably will show no respect to others at some stage.

I have been a lurker for some time now, because settling a new business takes allot of time and effort. But one reason I always come back is the company. One of the key factors that makes Casinomeister stand out is the fact that you can have your say, anyway you like it in a relaxed and mature environment. It is good to see that it stays the way it is.

I have some very cool and unprecedented things planned for this forum in the upcoming weeks. You won't be disappointed.

......i will miss tim also and i feel the blame for lojo being banned for 90 days as i was one of the peeps he told to stfu which he did say he was sorry for in his own lojo way. i did not report it as i felt it was not intended at me by him personally but by maybe some heavy duty partying on his part. i think the worst word you can say to someone is to shut up as this makes one feel belittled and we all have feelings that can be hurt with just a few words. lojo is a great poster prolly one of the best on here and he has a good heart, i hope he will come back like the old lojo with great posts and standing up for the ones that need his advice...................laurie

The thing is, you can't just go and post whatever you like and then the next day blame it on the booze. "Shut the fuck up" - whether it's an acronym or not - is way out of line. I don't care how good a poster is, that is abusing other members and is uncalled for. Lojo has been given his share of warnings and admonishments. If a member feels they need to abuse others or act obnoxious, then there are consequences. I cannot permit members to behave badly.

Tim, nice guy that I'm sure he is, has crossed that border several times. It's a shame, but if you want a forum where people can refer to the women membership as "bitches" and "whores" - well, I just have to say that you won't find it at Casinomeister.

It's not like these guys were not warned.

In 22 years I never called my own wife a B and that's even if I was drunk too.
I do wish you would give Tim one more and only one more chance and that's it.

What I am really in awe of is the ethics this board is run on. Not only with this situation (and others like it) but in general.

When a casino has done wrong, you take them to task, but when someone comes here and bashes them for personal reasons, you defend them equally. That is awesome. I have enjoyed my time here, and can't wait for the new & exciting things to come! :notworthy

Bryan, I'm not sure if you missed it but I just wanted to say that I was poster #2 in that thread that Tim made and you can see what I tried to say to him in a nice and diplomatic way. I feel there are mothers and grandmothers on this board also that I would not want my own personal friends to talk like that around them...little lone a total stranger...and I really like Tim too as you can see from my post here...

I did not alert you to it, because I felt he did know better and I tried to bring his attention to it real quick by being poster # 2 in hopes that things would chill there, but then others jumped in the mix agging him on you know...

I have been married for 16 years and never once has my husband called me a " Bitch" even though we both know I am I've only been a member a short time so I haven't read alot of the post with negative remarks made by Tim. What about a word censor mod? "filter" Once members find out certain sayings or words used in their post are not what they posted they are less likely to use them again. Can be a useful tool and funny if you use it right.

Maybe some of those long time lurking members will decide to come out and start making this forum the great place it used to be. That would be a good thing.

And, for everyone that thinks Tim should get another chance, maybe you guys could find out where he goes and go with him? Just My Opinion.

Lojo, who already had a few chances before this ban, could have been given the permanent boot. His drunken rants, made up words, and nonsense filled posts might be one of the major reasons why the intelligent contributors to this forum have disappeared? Just My Opinion.

If people want an entire forum that is like the old "Wild Cards" or the new "The Attic", maybe they could confine themselves to that forum only, and let the articulate and intelligent lurkers have their Gambling Forum back to rationally discuss true gambling related subjects, and the occasional real humor, not begging for money and sucking up to perceived "whales", whining and being paranoid, and the sophomoric, pseudo humor? Just My Opinion.

i'm not sure what to say...i agree with everyone on this matter and i think the meister did the right and appropriate thing, but.... i guess i'm kinda disappointed because i really like these two posters (even after some run ins with tim). i guess it never bothered me too much because there are always other members that keep the balance but i can also see how new members would be turned off by it (since they haven't gotten a chance to get to know everyone yet.)

regardless, i will also miss tim a lot and look forward to lojo's return!!!!

Yes I did. Very! But to be honest, I also thought...here he goes...off on one of his rants again. And despite it all, he could be very very funny, so I decided, on balance, to turn a blind eye to it all as in my opinion, his genuinely funny comments outweighed his misogynistic ramblings.

But, and this is where I am very confused, there were some posters who actually thanked Tim5ny for his comments. So should CM not also think about banning these posters as surely they were effectively condoning Tim5ny's GIGO (garbage in garbage out) rantings?

Just seems to me to be a rather one-sided decision.

Nope - those posters can live with their thanks. Like I mentioned earlier, Tim was banned two or three times previously for these same sort of comments - some way worse. The last one was the final straw. The thanking could have been for a myriad of things, not just for the offensive comments.

You are going to get many different types of personalities on any given public forum, whether it be online or out there in the world.
People react differently to these things.
I don't curse myself (unless extremely mad or upset at something which is rare), so if I start reading a post with such words I end up moving on to another post.
Sometimes you have people who just like to whine alot, or want to be the center of attention and take everything to turn it around to be about them. If I happen to come across the odd person or two who posts like that on here, I basically skip it unless its dealing with something important or interesting.
As far as lojo's post where he typed to lauriejim and suzecat the way he did, I was shocked to say the least. I knew something had to be up for him to type in such a manner. I like lojo, and I really enjoy his posts, probably because it always takes a few seconds to try and figure out what the heck he's actually saying. He also has alot to contribute to the forum as well. Do I think it should of been excused because of drinking? No, but that is just me.
Do I think tim should of had a thread like he did about Tut? No, only because I don't even read the P*nis Joke section. Again, that is just me. I have the option of reading a thread, or bypassing it.
Bottom line is, this is Bryans forum, he made rules, he posted the rules, he gives fair warnings and bans before the big foot comes down. He also has given us alot of leeway to express our concerns and issues and last but not least, he is right that people on this forum should not be subjected to threads that are not in good taste.

Very good point. I can only speak of my own experience being new here. Would I have joined knowing that it wouldn't be a pleasant experience for me? Hell no. Everything worked out ok and I have respect for all here but to be truthful, I would have remained a happy lurker. Perhaps some other lurkers feel the same.

Behind the keyboard we forget the real people. I know we've all heard that before. I try to consider that some may be in a stage of depression, lonely or maybe ill and/or housebound. There are many scenerios. But some can take barbs just fine while others may be hurt or even devastated more than we know.

The above comment by RobWin is appropriate in this case to treat all as if they are guests in your home since this is home to everyone.

I have the utmost respect for the members here, and of course Bryan. It is not an eviable position to be in sometimes but I know Bryan does his best to make everyone welcome and comfortable.

In the end, very glad I joined!
