    My sister sent me this...

I'm an American and proud of it. That is why I stand-up for this great nation and thank God each day for the blessing of being born here.

I Am Your Worst Nightmare. I am a BAD American.

I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some mid level governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!

I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way! I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a smart American.

I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything.

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, do it in English.

I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to.

My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and whoever canceled Jerry Springer.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.

I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time watching or arguing about it.

I've never owned a slave, or was a slave! I haven't burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut up already.

I believe if you don't like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country! This is AMERICA.

I want to know which church it is exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson preaches, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution. Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I think the cops have every right to shoot your sorry rear if you're running from them..

I also think they have the right to pull you over if you're breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.

And, no, I don't mind having my face shown on my drivers license. I think it's good.....and I'm proud that "God" is written on my money.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.

I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me stuff or trying to guilt me into making "donations" to their cause.

I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.

And what is going on with gas prices...again?

I believe "illegal" is illegal no matter what the lawyers think.

I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in AMERICA!

If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American.

Five rules for watching Jerry Springer

1 - Always expect one person to say "We've been married for (insert number of months/years here), but I'm here to tell you I've been sleeping with (insert name here)".

2 - Always expect the audience to say the usual things - "JER-RY! JER-RY! JER-RY! etc.", "STEEEEEEVE!", "SIT DOWN WHORE!", "GO TO OPRAH!", "TAKE IT OFF!", "LO-SER! LO-SER!", etc, plus the usual cheers or boos or whatever.

3 - If there are any strippers on the show, always expect at least one of them to show part of their "anatomy".

4 - Always expect an audience member to "take it off" (and in episodes from 2002 onwards, expect Todd to give them some beads for that).

5 - Always expect to hear the terrible disclaimer: "Please take care of yourselves - and each other." 'Nuff said.

I've not been much of a TV watcher the last 6-7 yers (seems like that's when soft porn and cussing started showing up on "prime time" tv), but I DID watch Jerry Springer once when I was home sick, I couldn't believe what I was seeing! I'm old enough that I shouldn't be so simple minded and stupid, but I was amazed at how far down our society had come since I was little. Wish there was a way to turn back the clock. Bigger and better ain't always bigger and better, if you get what I mean:eek2:

A perv is a perv is a perv, no? (or insert freak, trash, low-class, crazy, etc.)

Sorry, people, I got going there:D

Jod - I couldn't agree with you more. I believe that show came on in my area in the early afternoon. Who's home in the early afternoon? KIDS! Teenagers! I think that's what it was geared towards. The only show I have a problem with my son (13 yrs) seeing is SouthPark - which can be funny - but really isn't for kids.

    Yuk

I get this drivel from my sister also. Typical Republican patriotic crap with a bit racism and some religion thrown in for good measure.

    Here's the nuts.

America has great technology - much of it devoted to war - mostly to further enrich the wealthy or steal natural resources. Not so much for protecting Americans. If they wanted to protect Americans we would have decent health care.

America has a promise of liberty - except conservatives don't know squat about liberty. So you get "strict constructionist" like Scalia that thinks the state has the right to do pretty much anything it wants to limit the personal liberty of its citizens - Scalia uses the example of masturbation. Can you imagine regulating such a thing?

Ah well. It seems conservatives love to waste tax dollars trying to control who people sleep with and how they practice sex. Do you guys realize in the 1950's they actually passed laws making birth control illegal? It hasn't been that long ago. Roe is just a derivative of the Griswald decision on birth control.

When conservatives scream where is "abortion" in the constitution what they should be saying is "where do we grant the government the power to regulate forced pregnancy?" Or in the case of putting homosexuals in jail for doing what is natural for them to do, we should be asking "where in the constitution do we grant uncle sam veto power in our bedrooms?" And still the Christian Legislators in my state want to make sodomy illegal because god told them. BTW - it wasn't that long ago the male/female blowjobs where also illegal. As well as mixed racial marriages.

To the point, minorities do have rights. You as a minority (in some things) have rights and it doesn't matter what the majority thinks. America isn't founded on democracy. It is founded on liberty. There are no government powers to tell people what flags they can fly or language they can speak and there shouldn't be. If you want to order a burger from someone who only speaks English, cook for yourself. Unfortunatly, we have denied liberty to groups of people and still do and it does have a lasting influence. I agree that the writer of your article is indeed a bad american.

As far as God on your money, I am sure the Taliband agrees with you. I am not sure Madison would. The religious right loves to appeal to your religion going so far as to argue we are a Christian nation and separation of church and state is a myth. Religious bigotry is about as high as racial bigotry on the hit parade. Europeans think Americans are overly religious. It may be one reason why world opinion of us has declined.

Generally, world opinion not just of America but of Americans have declined. I don't blame them. Face it, this country will steal your bankroll, your neteller funds and break their own treaties with the WTO. It isn't a nation of laws. It's a nation of bought influence. And they keep us in line with appeals to patriotism, religion and a bit of racial intolerance.

Proud to be an American? I think if I travel overseas I will claim to be Canadian - with a southern accent. Heh?

    imho,
    Stanford

PS - If you want to send email about the essense of "American", send them what Hamilton said. Hamilton didn't want a bill of rights as he didn't see a purpose to trying to list them. That's why you have a tenth amendment - to make sure individual liberty isn't restricted to the examples in the bill of rights - conservatives to the contrary. Hamilton says:

"...It has been several times truly remarked, that bills of rights are in their origin, stipulations between kings and their subjects, abridgments of prerogative in favor of privilege, reservations of rights not surrendered to the prince. Such was Magna Charta, obtained by the Barons, sword in hand, from king John. Such were the subsequent confirmations of that charter by subsequent princes. Such was the petition of right assented to by Charles the First, in the beginning of his reign. Such also was the declaration of right presented by the lords and commons to the prince of Orange in 1688, and afterwards thrown into the form of an act of parliament, called the bill of rights. It is evident, therefore, that according to their primitive signification, they have no application to constitutions professedly founded upon the power of the people, and executed by their immediate representatives and servants. Here, in strictness, the people surrender nothing, and as they retain every thing, they have no need of particular reservations. "We the people of the United States, to secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America." Here is a better recognition of popular rights than volumes of those aphorisms which make the principal figure in several of our state bills of rights, and which would sound much better in a treatise of ethics than in a constitution of government....

...I go further, and affirm that bills of rights, in the sense and in the extent in which they are contended for, are not only unnecessary in the proposed constitution, but would even be dangerous. They would contain various exceptions to powers which are not granted; and on this very account, would afford a colourable pretext to claim more than were granted. For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do? Why for instance, should it be said, that the liberty of the press shall not be restrained, when no power is given by which restrictions may be imposed? ..."

someones done his homework;) i agree to a certain extent and disagree on the rest of your post but hey thats what makes us a great nation, the right to agree and disagree, kinda like this forum imo. you might find it interesting that alot of republicans tend to sway to the left not to the right on some issues. and as far as saying your not american but canadian with a southern accent:rolleyes: that my friend will never fly:D a "true southener "never loses his or her southern accent;) laurie

    My 2 cents

First: Silkprint, your not getting off that easy!!! Do Tell!!!!!

Second: I don't care who's on the money as long as I have it to spend

Third: I hate guns and we are the only country with so many gun murders, my city alone (phila) is up to 265 for the year. UK has about 60 for the year

If Im hungry and some Italian, Spanish, German etc wants to feed me, who cares, just feed me! Caio, adios, alpherderzane (sp lol)

If my Italian grandparents want to show the Italian Flag along with the American Flag, who cares? Show pride in your heritage as well as being in America. Most of us come from another country anyway

If you don't like the way we live in America.....move back instead of complaining and bragging how much better your country is. (my grandfather did this lol) "Italy is so much better" move back if it's so great! Who's making you stay here

As for the slave thing: That was awhile back and I had nothing to do with it, I had family that died in the holocaust but the remaining survivors moved on when they got here. Again, it's over and we had nothing to do with it.

For the racists out there: Get a life! most white people spend hours tanning to look darker, get botox for thicker lips and get butt lifts for a high round ass. If you ask me, lots of people would love to have African American attributes. I for one think they are a beautiful looking nationality!

To the Politicians: Stop pissing away our money on the war and give us some quality healthcare!

Okay, Ive said enough. If I keep going I wont stop.
