Yep totally pisses me off, but they always seem to get away with it. Very hard to pin the blame on one person as they all pretend they had nothing to do with organising it.

Or plead the Fifth, as one of these wankers is doing.

Spending that amount of taxpayers' money on conference jollys is just too mucking futch, imo.

Still, the boss has had to resign and it looks as if more dismissals are in the pipeline.

Punishment is likely to be faster and perhaps more severe, seeing as it's an election year.

What gets me.... I still can't figure out what the GSA actually DOES (other than throw the occasional party/conference in Vegas LOL).

Oh... and I tried that old "Boss, I need to fly down to Biloxi for a few days to scout out a nice overpriced casino hotel/resort for the company's little conference next fall" routine. He didn't swallow it. He mumbled something about using the internet and telephone for research....

ok... had to add this... the new admin is trying make things better:

has enacted changes to reform the agency to "ensure nothing like this ever happens" again, including canceling 35 off-site conferences and suspending all travel unless deemed essential by management

WTFH??? Thirty-five conferences??? Did these guys and dolls at the GSA do nothing but party? Even at one 'conference' (hah!) per month, that's three years worth of off site 'conferences' they had planned.

This one guy Neely (who's now pleading the Fifth) appears to have done quite well out of his varous scouting trips to the bright lights, along with his wife, not to mention the jollifications during the conference with private parties and all...it just bugs the hell out of me when I see bureaucrats like this living it up on the taxpeyer's dime when there are so many more needy and useful things on which governments could be spending the cash.

It's not confined to the US either - government wastage and questionable spending is a problem everywhere, and clearly more oversight is necessary.
