Since it already just scratched the surface of mainstream adoption in 2013 I believe it would be useful to see what % of the people have already actually tried it first hand.

Well, I have a real job, along with the usual bank and cards. I don't speculate on money markets. Nor do I want to pay an assassin to off someone through the TOR network's version of Craigslist. I'm not currently importing opium, sex slaves or uranium. I don't plan on building a hideout in a inactive volcano.

Why would I bother with bitcoin at all now the easy time to mine them has long passed?

It’s funny to hear the negative side of the TOR network which I believe was started by the US Navy to provide a secure way to use the internet without the privacy of the user and them being compromised. Which I may add is at odds with the NSA and GCHQ.

Just my thoughts.

I tried to mine them and it is just not made for small time people like myself.
This was about 6-7 months ago.
I have spent days and days to get myself setup and running in a few miner guilds as I do not have the equipment to mine them myself.
You need monster units with powerfull GPU's to get you started.
And like said before, the easy time to mine them is long time over.
If you are not on the boat now, don't bother because you missed it.

And what is a bitcoin really?
A virtual non existing currency.
I could vanish just in a blink of an eye.

I know people who have a good few of those bitcoins.
Just trying to make profit by selling them at the right time.

I think 1 bitcoin todays rate is about €450.00-€500.00?

So if you purchase stuff with those you will always end up paying amounts like 0.000321 bitcoin for example.

Meh,and casino's accepting these might be the more dodgy ones?

Very interesting point of view, but there are also few million people that also don't do any of that but are still into them.
Also I believe it's a way for US people to gamble online as well, or there are better ways now?

Anyway, please keep the feedback coming, it's quite refreshing to hear such opinions :)

The bitcoins are as all new things, for the most brave ones who take risks. I have friends who owned bitcoins way before they got famous and known by everyone. It seemed crazy to own those coins that didn't represent any currency but he sold part of them when the price increased crazily. Just a combination of braveness and luck.

Totally agree lotusch, the volatility of the bitcoin currency alone is enough to keep me away.

The only legit casino I know accepting bitcoins is Vera and John and I kinda saw it as a knee jerk reaction to being the first in hip new trend.

Here is an idea about the volatility problem. If you use Bitcoin as JUST payment network, not currency, volatility doesn't matter.
You buy bitcoins for USD, deposit them to a Casino which instantly converts them back to USD.
There are payment processor that do that for you within seconds, so you pay $100, they get transfered via the bitcoin network, you get $100 at the other end.
Pretty cool?

Of course at the moment is much better to just do that with a credit card, but not everyone is able to do that. *cough 250M US citizens

Of course the volatility matters unless you keep monitoring your account 24/7. Lets say you have got a withdrawal from a casino that was a bit delayed so you goto sleep in the meantime. And suddenly the BC plunge 50%...

And there is still alot of hassle for the end-user when it comes to casinos. First you have to send money to an exchancer trough a financial institution that usually takes a fee, then the exchanger will take a small fee, and then you got the risk before you can play at a casino with the cash.

Eventhough US players can't use their credit cards anymore, there are some simpler options for them.

I can't speak on any other site but V & J because I actually went and tested it out for an article for my site and what they do is they "lock in" the current exchange rate at the time of deposit or withdrawal.

So if you make a withdrawal and 1 bitcoin is $855 then thats the rate they'll pay you at regardless if the next minute the currency crashes.

If the currency crashes, the loss will be on them.

If the currency crashed, I'd be surprised if they didn't close shop and run with your money.

Well, sure enough, but I was more thinking of what can happend if you win a fair amount, withdraw it to your BC-account, and it ticks in while you're sleeping or so, and the value plummets before you get a chance to sell it.

Anyways for Norwegian Bitcoins is pretty much useless when it comes to gambling. Its taxed as a item, so one has to pay 25% VAT on it and credit cards or ewallets are much more convenient.

well politics are crooked and crooks are crooked so bit coins offer insulation from greedy tax collectors
and loose lips may not sink any bit coin ships

we need to know who is the most honest of the bunch and if we go there lead with our conceince

When bitcoin was introduced in the market, I thought this one will crush easily. I was wrong, couldn't imagine that I enjoy playing using bitcoin at BetCoin™ roulette now. I was hesitant at first, but with my friends’ convincing prowess, I created my bitcoin address at Blockchain.info; and here I am now...gambling using virtual currency.

yeah it takes time. As with everything new.
Looking at the poll results, we are quite early on. :)
