H.R. 2267: Internet Gambling Reg., Consumer Protect., and Enforcement Act Passes

ok so this passed now whats the next step and how long do you think before sites are up and running

It'll still be some time before anything comes up live for US players. The laws are being passed, but the infrastructure just isn't there yet. It's hard to say, but if or when it passes, I'd say it'll take a year or two for people to get it together. Hope I'm proven wrong.

Thanks Nash for the link, but what does it mean? I looked at it and read some of the info and it is hard for a regular person to understand.

Does this indicate the US players have gotten the green light for online gaming?

Will the softwares that dropped us come back?

Is it possible that US casinos may also consider expanding to online gaming?

Can I say WooHoo yet?

Ooops, I see Bryan answered while I was asking questions. Thanks Bryan.

Was simply showing the next step as was asked. This is shown under the section "STATUS". Lots of other info. on the Bill link also is available which I am sure you can understand.

As Bryan states "NO":(
Shalom:)

A quote from the link I posted above:

"This bill was considered in committee which has recommended it be considered by the House as a whole. Although it has been placed on a calendar of business, the order in which legislation is considered and voted on is determined by the majority party leadership. Keep in mind that sometimes the text of one bill is incorporated into another bill, and in those cases the original bill, as it would appear here, would seem to be abandoned." Possibly could be attached to another Port Security Bill,

Let's hope the ban is near the end.

It's got a long way to go, and the bill, as it is now, could go through many more transformations before it's actually presented to the president for him to sign. And even then, it may be rejected, and then the process would start all over again. Think about it though. This is one great way to get more tax money coming in, so it'd be political suicide for him not to sign it.

The next steps are:

* Full vote in the House
* Senate committee vote (provided a sponsor can be found)
* Full vote in the senate
* Conference committee to resolve differences between House and Senate versions

...and ultimately:

* Signature by the president

Then each State (as currently proposed) has the right to opt-out (or opt-in) in the event the Bill is passed and signed Federally.

P.V. said:
Amendment 11 (Manager’s amendment — the majority and minority member who managed the debate): Bets are to be made with prepaid cards and debit cards only; bettors will be restricted from using credit cards on Internet gambling sites. In addition, the House Financial Services Committee will have no jurisdiction on tribal rights. Amendment passes by voice vote.

Is that right? I thought it was just to ban credit cards. The amendment above suggests eWallets are out too?

FWIW, have read several articles in the last few days regarding Paypal/Ebay re-entering the funding of online gambling. Keep in mind the legal and logistical (credit cards are one of the primary means of funding e-wallets) issues. It can get complicated.

If we can deposit directly via debit/prepaid card, why do we need ewallets? (thank you so much QT for blackballing me, effectively ending my online gambling:icon_evil)

Hiya: Just remember, None of this is FREE. There is one reason, and one reason only to do this, and that is TAXES. Right now, if you play from America, at casino, "insert casino name here", you are only paying whatever processing fee there is to get the money into the Casino, via a 3rd party. Then whatever fee either the Casino will charge, or what the 3rd party will charge, to get the winnings back to you, or to your bank account.

Now ADD IN FEDERAL TAXES. and............what ever states decide to join this venture, they will want their fair share also, so ADD IN STATE TAXES. Oh, and a little government ageny called the IRS, is gonna want theirs also.

Some players are going to decide it is just better to keep playing how/where, they are at right now. imhop.

unless anyone actually told the IRS that they made a total of $18,000, "as example" and demanded that the IRS tax them on the winnings?

Okay, why would being blackballed from QT end your gambling?
I always used my debit when I deposited and all the major casinos that service the US does accept debit.

Without QT I have no practical place to withdraw to. EWX is to expensive, the casino I play at won't send checks to America, and I don't want to risk getting a wire directly from the casino.

I doubt the tax situation on the players side changes much. You are required to pay taxes on income, even if that income is from illegal sources such as drugs or prostitution. So, you should be paying taxes on your winnings now, regardless of the gambling laws.

The tax money the government is eyeballing is likely from the gambling companies rather than from the players.

Are you playing at an Accredited casino?

You could always have a separate bank account just for your leisure fun. In the 9-10+ years I had been playing online I always used my debit, never had a single problem and that includes rogue casinos.

As long as you play at Accredited casinos you never have to be concerned about direct bank transfers, they are safe and secure and many people use this option.

But, not trying to talk you into anything, just letting you know there are other secure options besides wallets.
