Give tips on how to quit gambling - or keeping it in check

Yes and especially stay away from psychedelic drugs when down, thats the worst decision to make. Aim to be focussed, get to enjoy the gambling, dont chase the feature or any losses. Slots are brutal!

I'd hazard every single gambler has, at one time or another, had a heavy loss session and felt like total crap. Part and parcel of the highs and (more frequently) lows of gambling.

Even if you can afford to lose it, it still stings when you plough your monthly budget in within one night. It happens though.

Agree with Guntis, get some sleep...you'll wake up with a clearer head. If it's still an issue, maybe consider exclusion?

Have a beer and simply try to go to sleep. The money comes and goes anyway. And remember, life still goes on! Don't regret the past, focus on future and stay strong! Just fuck it - forget it!

Sound advice. What is done is done, learn from it and move on as worry and stress is not going to help you. Tomorrow is another day, start again ....

Really hope you are ok and have someone there to support you, take care x

here's some advice to help a fellow gambling addict
go on self-exclusion for a month
then afterwards take another month of self-exclusion
it really helps and it won't be as bad as before

Hi all,

We've had a sad story posted by member - code name Neon Claws, about a massive gambling loss. I have removed his thread upon his request - but some of you were beginning to give advice on either how to quit or to at least keep one's gambling in check. You can continue here. Thanks!

One I'll sometimes give, is simply, stop, stand, grab the leash, and take the pooch out for a walk. Besides the health benefit to you - and added adoration of the dog - it's a cool-off period to let the adrenaline settle and look back at the game (and balance) with fresh eyes when you return

Surely if you’re going to give advice on how to quit/reduce gambling readers should be directed to a new site which isn’t littered with gambling ads/affiliate links and posts about gambling.

While it’s great trying to address the problem, and I commend you for that. Keeping someone on a site who has a gambling problem littered with Gambling related ads is essentially the same as telling someone who’s addicted to drugs to stop/reduce taking drugs and then leaving them in a room full of drugs.

I understand that your post is well meaning but so is this thread.
A guy doesn't go into a tobacconists to ask for directions to the nearest gym and expect to be told to feck off unless you buy something from here.
He is being given advice. There are many people outside the shop trying to point him in the right direction

One thing that's going to help me stop gambling at the local pubs is someone followed me home after seeing me pull out a big chunk of winnings and tried to jump me.
I'd noticed them scoping me most of the night and they'd previously tried to 'give me a lift home'.
Smashed a bottle over their head and they legged it but still enough to keep me away for a good while.

Does anyone really think that alcohol or other substances can help in winning? The main thing here is a calm and sober mind, which can reasonably and logically think. I have always been amazed at people who drink while playing casino or smoke weed "for concentration." I think this is stupid. But on the other hand, if you can't win for a long time, you shouldn't blame everything except yourself. The main thing is to take a break and completely abandon gambling for a while. Do not switch to another service, namely refuse for at least a week. Personally, I use only one gambling service - and when I can't win, I just take a break from 3 to 10 days (depending on the situation). This has always helped me.

I can't imagine how deluded you'd need to be to think drinking would help you win.

The four worst losses in my life on a night shockingly coincide with the four times I've been the most drunk

Well, most casino sites have their so-called self-exclusion. It is where you can seek help and exclude your gaming account. This will hugely help you in stopping your gambling addiction. Another good way is to find a hobby or other activities that will make you forget about it. If you think that it has been affecting your emotional and mental stability, you better seek for a professional help.
