Due to recent changes in the legalities of online gaming within Germany, we very much regret to inform you that all Getminted accounts registered by players from Germany will be suspended as of 1st March 2008.

We will be suspending all game-play for German accounts on 8th February 2008 but you still will be able log in and to withdraw any funds up until 1st March.

At 00:00 1st March we will be implementing a log-on exclusion so please make sure you have any funds withdrawn by this time. After this date you will not be able to log into your account although you will be able to initiate a withdrawal of your funds by calling our customer support center at +44 845 456 3044.

We thank you for your membership with us and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. We promise to continue to monitor any legislative changes as they occur and hope to be able to offer our service to you in the future.

Check out Casinomeister News - this ban came in on January 1st.

The European Union compliance guys are not happy about it and the Germans could be facing legal sanctions.

I'm sure Germany will take the same route the USA did by paying them off in other areas.

That's a definite possibility, I think - there were media reports last year of a possible deal between the EC and Germany whereby if the Germans agreed to open up their sportsbetting market the EC would take a more lenient approach to other aspects of an online gambling ban.

IMO that would not have been a good idea, because it would have set a precedent for excluding online casino and poker room gambling by other EU nations that have state monopolies (like France and Sweden)

It's a shame, and it sounds like a Wagerworks (Alderney?) decision.

But kudos to GetMinted (and Virgin it appears) for actually giving Germans some decent notice and proper information to withdraw their funds rather than the sudden closures we witnessed t some places when the USA debarcle occurred. Wagerworks/Alderney - doing things the right way again.

If I was a friendly MG or Crypto operator, who knew a friendly Wagerworks operator... I wonder if I could come to some agreement for the database of German accounts...
