Is it better to go for more spins or more multipliers on such a bonus round?
    For example,

    12 spins at 4x
    16 spins at 3x
    24 spins at 2x

all effectively have a value of 28... but is it better to hope for one big hit in 12, or spread the risk over 24 smaller wins?! :what:

I know that many user prefer to play only 12 spins with 4x multiplier (i think you mean Loaded), but i always play there 24 with 2x multiplier, because i had so a € 200.- win with my 24th spin with only a € 1.- bet :)

Btw. 24 spins are also better, because 12 spins costs me € 12.- and 24 spins € 24.-, so 24 spins are even € 12.- more for me:)

EV(payout% is the same), but the variance is different of course.

If retriggers was allowed it would be better to pick 24 free spins, but this is not the case in Loaded or any other game where you have such a choice.

    Definitely Loaded there!

If I'm doing OK I usually go for the 12 spins & hope for a really big hit, but if things are not so good I'll take the 24 for more chances of a medium hit, if you see what I mean.
As Zoozie says, at the end of the day it doesn't really make any difference.

    What do you do?

And I'd like to hear which option people chose on Dolphin Tale...
Again I usually just go for 5 spins & hope for x20 & a mega win - how about everyone else?

I'll never do this, because on Dolphin Tales are the wins generally very rar, so in this 5 free spins you can also get nothing and by 25 free spins is more possible.
Btw. i'll never play Dolphin Tale in the future, because you must very often make 200-300 spins, or more, to get the free spins!
So i prefer cashanova, because there you get very often the bonus round or free range bonus, although the wins are not always so big, but i can play a little bit longer, as on all another Video Slots ;)

If you are betting small then probably go for the 12 spins - if you are betting out of your depth then take 24 spins.

    Bit easier on the nerves....:p

So if they retrigger, do you pick again and then add the number to the remaining free spins?

I usually pick the most spins but I honestly dont think it matters. You get what you get. If you want it long and drawn out take the 24 spins. Short and sweet take the lesser number. I dont think there is a way to prove one is better or worse than the other.

on Dolphin Tale i had always gone for the 20 free spins, but after choosing the 5 spins and being awarded a 20x bonus and then hitting 4 dolphins in a row on said bonus i am a true convert :D. if i had chosen 20 free spins at say a x5 multiplier, my end win would have been a lot less than what i came out with. I only ever choose the max bultiplier nowadays.

I would go for the 24 spins at 2X.... Even though the payout percentage is the same, I would rather win smaller amounts (and maybe a bigger) once, with more chances, that using my 12 spins at 4X. That is just my personal preference.

And also excluding "Happy Valley" at 3Dice. (15 lines with freespin feature where you can pick multiplier+number of spins).

I am not sure what I think it. It kind of removes the 'no-skill' characteristic of slots, which is why slot players like slots. They do not have to think! But the pick does affect the slot payout% and always picking the best compared to the worst will affect the payout up to 2%. (given that the reels are the same during the freespins not depending on your pick)

Of course it is an easy choice if you are aware of this, but I think 90% of the slots players are not. (and maybe most of them don't care anyway).

Can we get a word on this from 3Dice?

I would comment, but I never saw the free spins on this one.
If it is random, it would be a case of valuing the pick based on the number of ordinary spins it was worth, and with Loaded, only the variance changes, not the expected return.

As I have a 15 Gone Gambling bonus at 3Dice to claim, I shall use it to investigate this:D

    Hey Zoozie,

    Sure you can ! ;)

I assume things would be the same for slots with similar mechanics, but here's how the situation is for happy valley.

The reels are not altered in the free-spins, so the choice you make does indeed very slightly alter the payout percentage. The reason for this is quite simple, it is caused by the fact that the chance on retriggers increases if you have more spins. On the long run, 2 spins with multiplier x1 and 1 spin with multiplier x2 pays the same, but the first one will give you more chances on a retrigger ..

So, one always wants to pick the highest number of spins with the lowest multiplier...

Yup, I am fully aware of the reason and therefore I made my post.
But I am happy you fully understand the mechanics as can be seen from your answer. What I wanted what more the reason behind releasing a slot
with a 'skill'-element that affects payout%. There are only 2 online slots
with this property now and I was not sure it was intended. Other slots besides these two slots that gives people a choice ("Loaded", "Dolphin Tale" etc) does not allow retriggers which ensure payoyt% is not affected by your choice.

    Hey zoozie,

We were fully aware that this choice slightly influences the payout. The difference is small enough and did not justify removing the exciting retrigger feature.

We also both know that one has to put in hundreds of thousands of spins to mathematically compensate the variance on machines like this, and arrive on the EV with a usable certainty. High multipliers increase the maximum pay of a machine and thus the variance.

I think we'd both rather play a 95% machine with high variance than a 99.99% one with no variance at all.. since the latter is the one that guarantees you'll never have any profit ..

So yes, always choose the lowest multiplier and highest number of freespins .. unless .. of course .. you think you're going to hit BIG in the first few spins ;)

    Greets,

    Enzo

Pleeeease don't encourage MG to create another clone!
Dolphin Tale is one of my favorites, but enough slots already unless it's something completely different!
