I knew this was in the works at Foxwoods but what will they think of next.
Luxury bowling opening at Foxwoods Casino
Mashantucket, Conn. (WTNH) - When most people think of bowling a casino doesn't typically come to mind. But one Connecticut casino has added some "luxurious lanes" as an alternative to gambling.
Much of the new addition is still under construction but the luxury bowling alley is ready to go, and so are the high rollers behind Foxwoods’ latest venue.
Ed Kane heads Big Night Entertainment, which brings the High Rollers Luxury Lanes and Lounge to Foxwoods Casino. Bowling under chandeliers, it’s not your dad's bowling alley anymore.
“We really wanted to create a new category of that brand,” Kane explained. ”There's bowling and there's luxury bowling. There aren't a lot of these lanes that exist. We just thought people would appreciate it.”
Foxwoods is hoping to throw a strike with this added entertainment -- an alternative to gaming – that hasn't scored as high as it used to. Slot revenues are down and both casinos have decreased their work force by hundreds, most recently at Mohegan Sun.
“You're going to have to continue to reinvent yourself and continue to bring on new offerings and this is one of the ways to do that,” said Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Chairman Rodney Butler.
Diversifying to survive is the name of the game -- twenty lanes, six professional pool tables, a fifty-seat marble bar and a two-level lounge with a piano. And, you don't have to be a high roller to play there.
