Fastest comupter hard drives

How do they get worn out? There's no moving parts.

I still want one.... A really big one. :p

They use flash memory, which can only sustain a certain number of flash writes before it wears out to the extent that no further writes can be made. SSDs compensate by evening out the wear, but eventually so many sectors end up "knackered" that the SSD is no longer useable.

Developments are focussed on increasing the number of write events each sector can sustain before getting "tired", and bringing the cost down.

Currently, the per Gigabyte price of storage is much higher on SSDs than on traditional hard drives.

This wear factor is why SSDs are recommended for the OS and certain key pieces of software, but not for general data and other software.
