Early Kentucky Derby betting??

Anyone going to do it???
Right now you get 7/1 on Ravel, and 6/1 on Nobiz Like Shobiz on bodog (they are the two favorites)!
Anyone else follow that?? Ravel is the late descendant of Secretariat.

You can not argue with those odds.

I also like Liquidity as a horse in the race, he is 30/1 right now!
Some fantastic odds for early on, and if the horse get scratched you will get your money back. :)

Those two favorites are now (as of 2/28) 7-1 & 8-1.

Unless you REALLY like one of those favorites... better off to wait a bit... too many things can happen between now and the first Saturday in May...

The 30-1 on Liquidity might not be a bad bet, tho... ;)

Many prep races will be run in March and early April... you usually can get a better opinion on who looks good or has some added potential after watching these races.

At this early stage I wouldn't bet anything at those short odds. What are the odds of any one horse actually making it to the Derby? And then they have to beat 20 other horses.

I might take a small position in some horses that are at least 30-1 or 50-1, but nothing shorter than that.

Nobiz Like Shobiz got beat once again by Scat Daddy on Saturday at Gulfstream Park... finishing 3rd.

I don't think this horse can go the distance in the Derby. Probably better suited for a run at the Preakness.

Scat Daddy looked good... closing to get up by a 1/2 length.

I put token wagers on 5 horses in KY Derby Futures Pool 2 last weekend:

Notional (22-1) - Winner of 2 graded stakes this year. Seems to ship well. Next prep will be the Fla Derby or the Wood.

Ravel (11-1) - The odds are short for such a lightly raced colt (won the Gr 1 Sham in his only '07 race thus far), but is very well bred (sire is Fusiachi Pegasus, AP Indy mare).

Sam P (45-1) - Just took a flyer on this Pletcher-trained long shot.

Scat Daddy (16-1) - Another Pletcher horse. Winner of the Champagne as a 2YO and the Fountain of Youth as a 3YO. I'm partial to horses prepping Florida.

Zanjero (50-1) - 3rd in the Risen Star and the LA Derby. Always finishing wide.

absolute insanity to bet 'em early! how are you going to feel when your money is already down and your horse doesn't pitch a biscuit on the way to the gate?

Ravel is my pick as of today but 11-1 is not good enough, like soflat mentioned. I'm hoping S-bet will open above 11 and get as much money in as possible.

If you think it is insane to bet them early, you prob think I am a nutcase since I bet on the name or color the horse wears!!
