Do you feel Members of Congress should be forced to enroll themselves in the health

This congressman has a site where you can sign up on his petition if you are in favor or if you are not that Congress' members should have to enroll in whatever they vote for the American public.

On Tuesday, the Senate health committee voted 12-11 in favor of a two-page amendment that would require all Members and their staffs to enroll in any new government-run health plan.

It took me less than a minute to sign up to require our congressmen and senators to drink at the same trough! Three cheers for Congressman John Fleming of Louisiana! Congressman John Fleming ( Louisiana physician) has proposed an amendment that would require congressmen and senators to take the same healthcare plan they force on us (under proposed legislation they are curiously exempt).

Congressman Fleming is encouraging people to go on his Website and Sign his petition (very simple - just email). I have just done just that at:
Link Removed ( Old/Invalid)

Please urge as many people as you can to do the same!

If Congress forces this on the American people, the Congress should have to accept the same level of health care for themselves and their families. To do otherwise is the height of hypocrisy!

Members of Congress have the best federal health care on earth, like all federal public servants. Many of them tried to include every man, woman and child in the US in the same program but some people in bed with the insurance companies (Republicans) and some right to lifers (yes, members of congress' insurance covers abortion) shot it down by calling it socialist or they didn't want anybody else to get abortions with federal money. It would have been called a "single payer". So the "teabaggers" and "patriots" and "bigots" who "want their country back" from that *snip* president - cuz that's what all of this is really about, after all, got everyone all riled up but we still lucked out and got some badly needed health care reform even though it isn't the greatest bill that many had hoped for.

Now, in answer to the question: No. Of course they shouldn't be forced to do a goddamned thing just like no one else is being forced to do a goddamned thing. I haven't been forced to do anything and there isn't anyone who can post otherwise cuz to do so would be a bald-faced lie.

Besides, it's a trick question as no "government-run" health plan exists. Not even Medicare or Medicaid qualify as "government-run" since no one is obliged to participate in either and Medicare can be supplemented with private health insurance as people see fit to do so. But I guess you can go sign a petition on the bet that one may exist, one day. Maybe. LOL

WTF, Berny! Have you completely lost it? There is absolutely no need to post what you did. It is offensive and downright hateful.

You know everybody claimed to know what was in the healthcare bill but they didn't. Bern was right but jeez he expressed it so badly that I will try to say what he said so rudely.

The healthcare bill when it was initially presented was the same healthcare that members of congress has with a single pay option. The republicans did not want it and asked for that to be removed as they did with other options in the healthcare bill and then when it was watered down sufficiently for them they all voted no against the bill.

They rallied all the GOP members to vote no even though some wanted to work with the president in passing healthcare.

Everything is not in black and white. I really don't know what the fuss is all about. It has been said by countless news organizations, the president and it's in black and white in the bill. You can keep your healthcare..you don't have to change a thing.

Hey Maxd I think you should take that word out of that post.
It's not called for for any reason.
We know that word means ignorant
I don't care if your green, red, pink, silver we are all people.
That's one word I hate.

Ps I forgot to tell you the Quoted post Laurie has still has it in it.

I'm not arguing against the rules- ban whoever you like, but its clear that if berny hates anyone it is people who in his opinion are anti-Obama precisely because of his race. The word is indeed shocking but he was projecting the opinion onto Republicans, clearly not expressing his own views of Obama.

This reminds me of the ridiculous furore over that New Yorker cover which people also completely missed the point over.

My feelings is congress and lawmakers should never put on the public that which they would not do or use themselves and they should have to live under the same rules, laws and regulations as everyone else. Plain and simple.

What has been forgotten or ignored is that they work for us, we are their employer, not the other way around.

Well put Mavin:thumbsup:

elscrabinda, I just reread Jas original post and nowhere did I see a mention of Obama. Congressmen and Senators, yes , with no distinction between Rep. and Dem. So I don't see where Bernynhel could have picked up that she was bashing Obama at all.

As a matter of fact, I heard a comment on "The View" from Whoopi Goldberg about the Pres. health plan. Her comment was "I want the same thing that they have." Meaning the President, Congress and Senate in regards to health care.

The word he used should never be used, I don't care who is saying what. I am sort of a Republican (southerner and Texan) and I can assure you that word hasn't come out of my mouth ever. My mother would have washed my mouth out with soap.

Personally, by the time the Healthcare plan goes into effect, I will be on Medicare so who knows what I will have for healthcare.

Not for the next 30 days he doesn't.

30 days??? You have black members here that find him offensives and such a so-called person doesn't deserve to be a member any longer. I suggest a permanent ban is in order. There is no place here for such racist and bigotry remarks!!!

WHAT??? He called him the N word. There is no excuse for that. No matter how you want to spin it. Jews take slander of their race. Very very seriously. There can't be a double standard. Berny deserves to be banned from here forever. What if someone came on here and start calling whites the C word. He would be banned for good in a heart beat.

He made the point that there are some people who are anti-Obama precisely because he is black. Its perfectly valid to have a rule that certain words should not be used, but what is unfair is to argue that Berney is racist when he is actually pointing out the racism of others.

Admin Note: offensive terms

Even though bernynhel was using the n-word from someone else's perspective, it is crucial that this is done in a way that shows that he was not personally making this comment. He should have referrenced it or used quoted material. To overlook this gives the impression that these are your words.

Nevertheless, I don't feel that the use of "nigger" was necessary. There are other ways to get a point across. This obviously wasn't the way to do it.

After looking at this, I understand the point he was trying to make, but he should have used better judgment - taking in consideration how the other members might have responded. Looking at the thread, maybe only one or two people "got it."

I don't believe Bernynhel is a racist, and after re-reading his post a couple of times, I don't think he intended to attack other members with it. I'm lifting his suspension with the understanding that he'll use more discretion and tact while posting controversial material.

Agreed!

Thanks for taking the time to see the true context of what was said, if only others would do that before hand...

But that's the thing about inciting language, it incites. Max suspended his account rightfully so. And most everyone in this thread responded negatively to the use of it. Bernyhel lost his audience because of a word.

Language is a powerful tool, and with great power comes great responsibility. Get it?

I agree with Max suspending until internal discussion could be had between the powers that be here, Max was doing his job.

Because most did not take the time to see the true context of what was actually said, IMO

Agreed

C'mon, did I really say it? Or was I just trying to illustrate how hateful others are who pretend to be "patriots" and if they could get away with it they'd be screaming "N-word president" til their larynxs fell out? And do you hear me demanding apologies from you for puttin words in my mouth, trying to regulate what I say, again, or making a big stink over your knee jerk reactions to sticking your nose in my business? Of course not! Never!!! Cuz I love you just the way you are, LJ!

Alla that said, I had originally meant the line "want their country back" from that n****** president to read "want their country back from that n***** president" not that, looking back, it woulda necessarily made any difference. However, had anyone bothered to PM me, I would have gladly made an edit til we thought it wouldn't be offensive to anyone rather than have peeps run to Max or Bryan and waste their time about it. Oh well. Live n learn.

Anyway this thread ain't even about that - so who's signed the BS petition, so far? That's what I wanna know.

you know i did bern. i think whats good for the goose is good for the gander. and i don,t like obama not because hes black just caz i don,t think he has any right to be in office and i think him and all the others both partys r going to drag the u.s down to where we might not be able to rebound. but glad to see u back who eles would keep everyone here on thrie toes.:D
