Do affiliates have regulation?

I only ask as it is something I have been considering giving a go for a long time, I just wondered (in the UK) whether you need any license, or any specific regulations to adhere to before embarking on a website/idea?

KK is absolutely right, if you have a domain name, hosting and some content then you can start trading as an affiliate straight away. You will need to adhere to the terms of your affiliate partners, but essentially that is it.

To build an element of trust for your visitors you can apply to the GPWA and CAP for a 'trusted portal' badge, which you can proudly emblazon on your homepage, should you wish. eCogra also have something similar, but they are less accepting of affiliates.

If you become an affiliate for a particular casino (or casino group) can you still play there as a 'standard customer'?

This is completely at the discretion of the operator. Generally it is frowned upon, as it is seen as a way to recoup some of your losses. However, some programs will let it slide and others may not even know it is happening.

There has recently been a case on CM about a program that closed an affiliate account as they assumed that he was directing customers from the forum! A little bit extreme, but it gives you an idea of the different levels of customer acquisition these operators allow.

You can still play there, but do not refer yourself as they will close your affiliate account. I don't know any who wouldn't do this, certainly all the major ones do!

I considered getting into this a while back and even had some good ideas for a potential website, but upon research soon realized there was so many others out there already and all my bright ideas had already been done a hundred times over, would end up being about as effective as peeing into a swimming pool.

A 'wonder' I have always had too please...

Yes, of course - but you must NOT sign-up as a player via your own affy tag.
I play at loads of casinos which I also promote - and can even take bonuses. I usually sign-up as a player BEFORE as an affiliate, just to make sure I don't accidentally break any rules (cookies can be dangerous!). If the casino is listed here, I will always use Casinomeister's link.

Why would you want to turn the pool yellow anyway..?

Just a creative way to explain how effective it might be to open a new affiliate site into the huge pool of millions there already is.

Most affiliates test the casinos that they promote (if not, they should). This is why it is important to clear cookies when signing up just in case you've accidentally clicked your own link. And when in doubt, always confirm that you are not linked to your affiliate account with the casino.

As for the OPs question, you have to hold a vendors' license to promote Old / Expired Link like at the US site. Other than that, you are obligated to abide by the casino's rules and regs concerning advertising - which makes much more sense since there are too many jurisdictions to shake a stick at.

No regs as such but like the boss said above you are obligated to abide by the casino's rules and regs concerning advertising LISTEN all you spammers out there:)

Casino do state in rules, after all the can not sign up with same IP or computer etc and alot includes affiliates, But I have neither came across this is a problem, I have asked countless time's and all was good, There is actually a site where they have your affiliate link there, Maybe any body starting out can get the ball rolling this way, Unsure if I should be putting what site, But it is accredited here,

Also would be good to add links to responsible gaming and quit gaming sites
